If Steve were here to fight, he would have made that clear from the beginning. Striking from behind was nothing short of cowardly. He was a lot of things, not all of them great, but he wasn’t a coward. But then, he wouldn’t have wanted Loki at his back either, so he couldn’t really be offended. “Likewise,” he agreed with a small, thoughtful nod. He wasn’t a liar either, and he had a feeling that was only the beginning of uncomfortable truths in this conversation.
“I’m afraid it’s got nothing on your Asgardian liquor.” He accepted the glass and took a sip, if only to show that it was safe to drink. Steve had never in his life poisoned someone; it was ridiculous even to think about, but he wouldn’t blame them for being cautious. He tipped his head in acknowledgement, honored that Thor had included his Earth friends in his battle stories. Steve was glad, again, that he hadn’t been present for the civil war. He didn’t want to know what side his friend would have taken.
It was a slight change in topic, but he sensed they would get around to their point eventually. Oddly, the question confirmed something Steve had suspected for a while: he and Loki weren’t from the same timeline. There had been the off comment here and there coupled with Loki’s changed behavior, but there was no reason to ask something like that otherwise. “The Avengers got a divorce, I broke half of them out of the Raft, and we went on the run. Passed through a weird town in Wales and realized I couldn’t get out.” His eyes were steady on them as he took another drink, but he didn’t ask the obvious return question. He hadn’t come here to learn about his future.
Loki knew that the Captain was no coward, never expected him to be one. Thor would not have held him in the regard that he did if he had been. It was the sheer discomfort of having anyone they didn't thoroughly trust at their back, really, and those were countable on less than one hand. The sharp smile remained at his honest answer, knowing the uncomfortable truths were just beginning.
"Very little does," they said bluntly, shrugging lightly as they took a sip. It wasn't bad, as far as Midgardian liquor went, really, and they took another. They still couldn't quite understand the fondness their brother held for humans, but then he didn't keep company with normal ones as far as they could tell, either. The pair of them had been through their own trials that they wouldn't have wished on anyone.
The new knowledge that Steve Rogers had no knowledge of Thanos or the havoc he had caused across the universe made them soften slightly, grateful that someone hadn't had to survive all of that. "That is a very good thing, Captain Rogers," they stated simply, draining their glass as they looked at him. They had no intention of simply offering up their truth, not when there was no reason to at all.
