I don't know if anyone remebers, or noticed, the little articles on social media predicting The Mandalorian and Grogu would not be the success Disney hoped for. I remeber thinking that was an odd thing to do. Then I thought some more and couldn't help but wonder if Disney was trying to prepare for, or possibly get ahead of, the tidal wave of bad reviews and shit takes that have traditionally followed after the release of a Star Wars project. I had some thoughts on that. Perhaps Disney had just accepted that vitriolic backlash just comes with the territory. If that's true then more's the pity. While I know nothing can truly be done to stop people from belly-aching online, Disney could, at least, not cave to online negativity the way it does. Allow those in charge to carry on with their stories the way they want to and not try to 'fix' or 'course correct' entire plotlines becasue fanboys are angry on twitter. And for heaven's sake, Disney really should backing up and supporting the people they select to be involved with these stories, both in front of and behind the camera. Disney should not be cancelling projects outright or allowing actors to be abused online so blatanly. If Disney would just stand on business, that would send a clear message to the haters online. Then there wouldn't be a need for the preemptive apologies (like the one for the Mandolorian and Grogu) anymore.
