Challenge 1

Lola's idol will always be her sister. Elvis does come to a close second, though.

Naomi is the first person who accepted her for who she was. She didn't try to change Lola but slowly started to encourage how her mind was so abstract. Most of the time, the older girl barely understood what went through that little head, but the way Lola lit up about something was worth it.

Naomi was the strong one when their family became broken. She helped Lola with homework while having her own job and keeping the house in order. In Lola's mind, her sister was Super Woman. She could do anything and everything. And one day Lola hopes to be just like her sister -- confident, strong, can do everything and still have time to snuggle before bed.

Challenge 5

Lola isn't the one to make lists. She isn't that responsible on keeping things organized. That's Naomi. Lola has the messy organization mindset. But with Mary talking about making lists and with Naomi talking about them too -- well getting onto her about not getting good enough grades -- she decided to make a list.

Make new friends.

Continue to practice hula.

Try to focus more on school.

Try to teach someone hula or to surf.

Make Naomi proud.

Drastically change something about myself.

Challenge 8

Lola's favorite place in the world is Glass Beach. It's in Kaua'i. It's named Glass Beach because of the pieces of glass -- molded by the waves -- on the shore. She has made a couple of necklaces from picking up only a few pieces of the beautiful shells. Her parents were the first to show her he beach when she was younger. She doesn't remember what they did there, but what she does remember was being happy with all of her family.

Lola tries to go there when she can. Most of the time, she brings Stephen with her and they have a grand time looking at the shells or playing in the water.

Lola misses home a lot. Being on the mainland is so different compared to Kaua'i. Florida is a little similar with the beach and ocean breezes, but it's not the same. Even though, she doesn't get along with her sister or any of her ohana for that matter all the time, she doesn't like how she's so far away from them.

Calling her sister would cost too much money with long distance so they created a skype communication at least once a day. In the beginning, the time zone difference made it a little hard but they've learned what works for them. Lola loves the skype calls she gets. Usually Kele, their dog, jumps in the camera shot when he hears Lola's voice. Sometimes David is over and talks about the surf and his job -- anything he thought Lola would like.

She sends emails to Stephen back and forth a couple times a day. He always sends her a photo of either the tourists or something interesting in one of the shops or around the island. Lola cherishes all the communication she can get so that the homesickness isn't too strong.

Lola's biggest fear is being alone. It was June 16 when the authorities came in and almost took her away from her sister. They said that this was the best choice for her and Naomi. But no one asked what she wanted. Lola wanted to stay with her sister -- her only family and possibly the only person who would ever understand her. After the scare of being taken away, Lola realized how much she never wanted to be alone. She wanted to be surrounded by people at all times even if they were complete strangers.

That's one of the reasons she goes to the beach all the time. With Stephen back home and Mary busy with school, Lola goes to the beach. She wants to try to make new friends even though she was never the girl who could make friends very easily.
