“I know a place that makes incredible fudge brownies. They might not be cakes, but I promise it’s worth the sacrifice."
You had me at fudge brownies. No need to try to convince me any more. Now, which way do I have to walk to get them?
I’ve never been good at giving directions anyway, so I wouldn’t blame you. And don’t worry about being a bother. I’ve been craving some sweets from that bakery for a while. You’ve just given me a reason to go. Hm, it’s better to explore with someone else here in Prague. Far too many things to be seen to only be shared with yourself, in my opinion
Well I'm always glad to be giving someone a reason to do something they otherwise wouldn't have done. Honestly, for me any reason is a good enough reason to go to a bakery. I'll have to tell my roommate to go exploring with me then, if that's true. Have her show me all the sights that she's seen and then maybe I can see more than what she does. If that makes any sense at all.
Karina was outraged. ” You paid twenty pounds for a round of drinks? Are you crazy?” The blonde shook her head, and took a long sip of her drink. ” Much better.” Turning her stool, she turned so she could be facing the brunette. ” Now, to start off. Never, ever, pay that much money for a round of drinks, even if you have to flash your tits or get down on your knees instead.” She paused, contemplated what she had just said. ” Try not to do those either, unless the guy is hot.” Giving the girl a once over, she leaned forward and started unbuttoning the first button of her shirt. ” You have nice rack, show them off a little. There you go. That’s a nice start. Do you own any skirts, Lola?”
"Not crazy, just obviously not as charming as other people. Twenty pounds isn't that much for drinks for two people in a good club... Is it? I'm not really sure what a good price would be." Lola took a small sip from her glass, tasting the unfamiliar drink. "Oh my gosh this is really good." Lola listened to the blonde, feigning interest to what she was saying. It wasn't as if Lola would actually use the advice. "I don't think I'd be comfortable doing that to a total stranger... For drinks... Even if he's hot or whatever." Lola's eyes widened when Karina leaned towards her and opened her shirt. The familiarity was odd with someone she had just met, not even Letha was close enough to do that. "They aren't that nice, really... Just regular... Um, yes but I don't think you would count then since they practically cover my ankles. None of those mini skirts or anything..."
"I seem to act like a magnet to unpleasant surprises, aka people. Would you like to share your secret with me? How do you blend to the Background?”
I don't know if it's a secret exactly, it's not like I actually seek that out. Just tends to happen. All I can tell you is that blending in the background is not something normal people want to do.
"I promise you won’t be disappointed." His words might have sounded boastful, pretentious—but they weren’t empty. Emil was confident in his skill. The reviews and steady demand for tables were solid enough proofs.
It was a quick, brisk walk to their destination. The restaurant was half-full, mostly the usual, loyal faces of customers who worked in the nearby buildings. As the maître d on staff, Mia, seated them by the window, the view of the water visible through the glass, and he started them off on some Cherry-Yuzu herbal sodas. “I just updated this yesterday.” He handed her the menu. “Don’t worry about the price. Order what you like.”
"I'm counting on you being able to keep that promise." Lola didn't know a thing about the Incubus' restaurant, nor of its reviews and demands. She only knew that she was being invited to eat good food by a man who was confident in his skill.
The location of the restaurant didn't surprise Lola; in the movies, the fancy restaurants were always somehow located by the water. The views made them romantic, she supposed, although she had no desire for that particular atmosphere. She reached for the red beverage and took a small sip. "The flavor... What's in this? Just Cherry and Yuzu juice?" She'd liked the drink, not the type of thing she was used to drinking. Lola took the menu, and hoped that she was holding it the right way up. With a passive face, she glanced over it as she had seen a few other people in the restaurant do. "Wait, did you say you just updated it? So you're... Hmm, the chef?" Lola gave the man a small smile. "This won't do," she handed him back the menu, "I want the chef's recommendation."
You know, it wouldn’t kill you to enter the 21th century. There’s this very new cool thing. It’s called the internet. You can find pretty much everything on there.
Don't be stupid Letha, you know I can't do that. I have no idea how to work the voice to laptop thing, I know you've tried to teach me more than a hundred times but it's not as easy as it looks in the commercial.
"A fan of French cuisine? How about we have lunch at Jean-Georges first—then dessert after? I can get you a discount since I work there.”
A fan of many cuisines, French just being of of my favorites. The thought is tempting... And I have been looking for a decent restaurant in Prague, and at a discount... If you show me the way, well I can't really say no.
Karina nodded. Her eyes were trailing the bartender while the brunette talked, and as soon as he came close, she snagged his wrist. Running her fingers along his arm as she ordered, her smile only widened when he offered to give them both drinks on the house. ” That’s a good boy.” She muttered under her breath, turning her attention towards the brunette, only to hear the last sentence or so of her speech. She signed. ” Chatty, huh? Well, I better make it a double, — for myself. ” As they waited, Karina remembered her manners and crossed a leg over the other. ” How impolite of me. I’m Karina.”
Lola noticed the way Karina seemingly charmed the bartender into giving them the drinks on the house, and wondered if it was a good idea to be drinking with a succubus. Sometimes it was hard to control her mouth as it was, and she had very little experience controlling herself under the influence of alcohol. "Free drinks? You have to teach me how to do that. When I lived in London I think I paid twenty pounds for a round of drinks. Not even the good stuff." Lola smiled upon hearing the blonde's name. "You can call me Lola."
It certainly is not.
Only for people who care.
So... desk job?
Definitely not a waitress or a hostess or a salesclerk. Honestly I don't have the people skills for any of that either.
"Well—that sounds like a perfect evening. There’s a French bakery a few blocks from here if you’d like me to show you?"
For me it is. If you could do that, it would be wonderful. French bakeries are the best, even if we are in Prague and not Paris.
"Probably? Oh no… They did. And it’s probably going to cost us a good penny to replace it. Unfortunately."
Can't you charge their rooms for the damage? They were the ones who broke it after all, seems unfair the Inn has to foot the bill. That is, if they did break it, those beds are pretty sturdy.
I’m sorry, but I have no idea. Oh, Lola — is that you?
Figures... You know my na- Oh! You're from the Inn, right? Um, don't tell me... Name starts with an... I'm running blank, I have no idea what your name is... Nice to see you, though.
"I wasn’t. It was that fat man over there. I can’t even drink or smoke without someone appearing. You know that problem?"
Oh sorry, must have misunderstood you then. Thought you were talking about yourself so it seemed a little weird. Don't really have that problem much, I'm one of those people who blends to the... Background, I guess.
I can do you one better. I can take you there. If you don’t mind, at least. So new to Prague you don’t even have a place yet? Not to worry, I’ve been here long enough.
I don't mind at all, actually. In fact, I'd probably get lost on the way there the second I left you. But, I don't want to be a bother... Yep,, that new. Exploring isn't really my thing, more of a stay-at-homer.
I believe the phrase goes, ask and you shall receive? If you’re looking for a bakery, I know of one. It’s hard to miss so I assume you haven’t been here long enough?
Oh my gosh if you could point me in the direction of a bakery, I will seriously praise you. Almost a month, probably, not nearly enough to get to know the city. My roommate and I don't even have an apartment yet.
"Having to clean up the mess around here is exhausting. People have no respect for keeping the Inn in one piece."
Hey, I'll have you know that I keep my room here in pristine condition, now the person who stays in the adjoining room probably broke the damn bed last night. Sorry about that.
"You know the feeling, when you want to be alone but everyone keeps bumping into you? Or… even speak to you?”
Usually when that feeling happens, you're not supposed to be the one initiating contact.
