“Have you ever caught sight of yourself by accident and you see yourself from the outside? That’s who you really are.” Remembering the beautiful and talented singer and screen star Dorothy Dandridge on her birthday… Born on November 9th, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio Died on September 8th, 1965 (age 42) in West Hollywood, California

“I taught myself how to meet people. I used to think that the way to win friends was to act loud and gay, and try to be witty. I’ve found out that isn’t true. People accept you for what you are – no more and no less; you don’t have to pretend to be anyone else. And putting on a phony air of sophistication is just about the worst thing you can do. I don’t assume that people will think me stupid because I want to find something out. Because I wanted to know more, I took some courses at U.C.L.A in economics and literature. I became interested in current events. I began to read. I found that if you have something to talk about, it’s wonderful to mix with people. I found that people who are all wrapped up in themselves can’t enjoy others because they use up all their energy wondering: "What will people say?”  or “What will people think?” I discovered that when I got interested in other people, I wasn’t afraid of being laughed at.“

You can become anything and do anything, right here, right now. It won’t be questioned. I came. I saw. I conquered. That’s a ball.
