trinity santos who can’t put into words why today is a bad day. trinity santos who goes to work and muddles through the day until she can go home. who barely remembers driving home. until she’s sat in the driveway to their home, head slumped forward, forehead resting against the steering wheel
and there’s no reason for her to feel like this. nothings happened. but everything is too much. and that’s where baran and yolanda find her still, when she doesn’t move for another ten minutes and they come out of the house to see what’s taking her so long
it frustrates her when they ask her what’s wrong, because nothing is. or maybe she’s what’s wrong. and eventually they stop trying to find the problem. when she refused to answer, cannot answer
she lets herself be tugged and directed and manhandled, out of the car, into the house, the shower, towelled off by gentle hands, her favourite pair of (yolanda’s) shorts, a t-shirt baran never gets chance to wear because it’s always on one of her girlfriends.
eats mechanically when baran places a plate of food in front of her. drinks water when prompted by yolanda.
and a blanket is being wrapped round her, she’s sat sideways across yolanda’s lap, baran urging her to stretch her legs out so she can massage at them.
she doesn’t feel better because she doesn’t know how to fix the days she feels like this. but it’s nice, makes it easier to have to sit in this feeling to know her girlfriends are there. to know that in the morning if she still feels like this she will be taken care of, and every day thereafter unconditionally
Some hcs centered around pride month. I know I missed some characters, feel free to add your own hcs to the mix.
It starts with Emma who waltzes into the ED on June 1st with that big almost child-like smile of hers and a pride flag pinned to her backpack.
She’s gotten into a habit of leaving her backpack with Dana and the attendings’ things in central command. The pin sits there, mostly unnoticed, but a from time to time a patient or coworker will comment on it. Emma, bless her, smiles and tells them about her grandmother who actually came out of the closet in her late 50s.
Trinity starts a running joke that asking her to do anything she doesn’t want to do during Pride is homophobic. She tries it on Baran who lets the joke fly right past her. She immediately takes it to heart and pulls Trinity aside to ask her what gave Trinity that impression. Trinity has to immediately retract what she said and apologize because the look in her attendings’ eye is so earnest.
When she tries the joke out on Robby, “Don’t be so homophobic old man,” he just rolls his eyes and pulls up his pant leg, revealing his bi pride themed socks. “Don’t be so biphobic little girl.” He throws back. Uno Reverse.
Mel gets an emergency call from her sister who has been invited to a Pride parade. “But I do not know if I can go considering I’m a heterosexual Mel,”
Mel asks Parker for her take about the situation. Parker who looks at Mel like she’s grown another head. Because of course, “Allies are always welcome at Pride. Have you never been to one?” This is how Parker ends up inviting Mel and Becca to go with her and Shen this year.
Baran buys the ED a cake in the 28th to celebrate and commemorate the anniversary of Stonewall. Its a vanilla with a butter creme frosting and a pastel rainbow design. She has everyone swear to not tell any other floors or HR. Self expression isn’t exactly encouraged in the ED.
During the month of June, Shen likes to reprise his role as Moana Shenanigans, his drag persona. Most of the ED is unaware of his extracurricular activities, except for Jack Abbott who caught him doing a show one afternoon and was immediately sworn to silence. Now when they talk about her, anyone listening in just wonders why in the world Shen would call his sister “Moanica” when he mentions her.
Speaking of the people upstairs, not all of them are happy with Emma’s pin. Clark the Shark is one such attending, and unsurprisingly Gloria makes a trip downstairs to see what the hullabaloo is all about.
Gloria asks Dana about it who shrugs but also tells her it hasn’t been a problem with a single patient, but that Gloria should just let it go since it’s Emma who doesn’t have an offensive bone in her body.
When Gloria sees the backpack, and then sees nurse Emma wearing the backpack on her way out the ED, she calls the young nurse to talk with her. Within seconds Emma’s positivity and girl-scout energy stun locks Gloria. She didn’t know people as sweet and innocent like Emma still existed, and then she conveniently forgets to ask to remove the pin at all.
When Trinity asks Dana what she’s doing for pride it’s mostly in jest, so she’s surprised when she has an answer. “I’m getting dinner with my son,” she tells her. Dana and her son have an estranged relationship sure, but it was never about his sexuality and they both knew that. Every June they attempt to get dinner together somewhere.
Trinity hosts movie nights at her apartment and forces Victoria and Whitaker to watch wlw movies with her. Every week the movie changes. She shows them DEBS one week after a long shift when they could use a laugh. She plays Imagine Me & You at the beginning of a long weekend, and she even gets them to watch the Itty Bitty Titty Comittee when she’s curious about what Victoria’s reaction will be to the penis rocket at the end of the movie.
She mostly chooses these movies because they’re all without nudity. She hates watching sex scenes around Whitaker. He always goes all red and has to cover his face. Its so awkward. “But they didn’t consent Trinity.”
Victoria plays it off like she’s never seen any wlw movies to Trinity because she’s never really acknowledged her own sexuality out loud. On the outside she’s straight passing but sometimes it was hard not to let it slip. But not even her family knows, and she does still like guys so she lets them keep thinking she’s completely straight. She knows she’s at least bisexual, she saw the Half of It once during COVID and it changed her life.
Abbott casually mentions to Baran (who was not at all asking for this information) about a relationship he had with another man in medical school. It never really went anywhere he says, but he sees the appeal.
Baran is.. well Baran is conflicted. She’s a woman who wears many hats, sometimes shes an attending, sometimes she’s a mother, and sometimes she’s an ex-wife. An ex-wife who thought for the first 30-40 years of her life that she was completely straight.
For a long time she felt a lot of needless guilt, as if she had kept a secret from herself and hadn’t been honest. The divorce gave her time to process these thoughts and feelings.
She isn’t inexperienced by any means, she’s been divorced for well over three years now, but she is still new at this dating women thing.
McKay has it made for Pride. Working with the street crew has given her the opportunity to work as medic staff alongside the parade. She’s manned the tent for the past 5 years. She stands at the side of the road under a tent as the parade passes by and hands out cold waters to the dancers and strippers hired to be on the floats. Sometimes she has to treat a case of heat exhaustion, dehydration, or the occasional alcohol poisoning, but its worth it to be able to ogle the hot men passing by.
Victoria hears about this first and passes along the information to Whitaker and Trinity. They basically invite themselves and McKay regrets giving away her secrets. Nonetheless they all have a blast.
Speaking of Whitaker and Trinity, they consider hosting a pride party at their apartment. The place is way too small for it and their landlord is a grumpy old man, so they try to relocate it to Garcia’s instead.
Garcia agrees but has a bunch of stipulations on keeping the house clean and includes not being responsible for the set up or the clean up after.
So instead Trinity floats the idea past Baran who surprisingly agrees to host at her house. She also promptly invites the entire ED with an e-vite via an email with several crudely cropped pride gifs. (Again she’s a little insane)
The party goes well, if not a little tame because of the venue. Baran seems to love having company at the house and catered themed food for the party. The best part of the night is definitely the visit the guests get from Moanica Shenanigans complete with a round of karaoke that sets off Trinity and Mel to do a group rendition of Abracadabra by Lady Gaga that is both too aggressive and too raspy to stay in key.
"It's fucking hot," Trinity complained readily as she rolled her suitcase alongside her girlfriends' outside the airport. As soon as they'd stepped outside a wave of humid heat settled over them like a blanket. Trinity has already stripped herself down to her undershirt, even the ramp deplaning was hot so she had Yolanda hold her undershirt down while she shimmied out of the sweatshirt she’d been wearing.
When the heavy shirt finally made it past her head she’d noticed Yolanda not so subtly eyeing her clevage and rolled her eyes before pushing her away.
Trinity had been to Florida exactly five times in her life and all of them had been gymnastics related ventures. Four of them had also involved Mickey and Minnie in some capacity, the other Harry Potter. One of her coach’s motivations in life was getting to go to the championship every year in Orlando with the team and Trinity was always very determined to get them there.
Each vacation was conveniently locked away in a far away corner of Trinity's brain, sealed off and frosted over. What she does remember of those vacations, however, was how fucking hot it was.
And don't get her wrong, California was hot too, but Trinity swears the humidity or something is different than home. Besides, Trinity had grown up in a part of California where she'd seen more redwoods than accessible sea water.
"It is 'fucking hot'. Are you sure you don't need water?" Baran agrees, eyeing Trinity's cheeks which were red with a flush, knowing Trinity was prone to getting overheated quickly.
"No no, I'm fine. My body just needs to get used to it." Trinity promises, waving her off.
"I think you always look hot Trinity," Yolanda chimes in with a teasing glint to her eyes as she places her phone to her ear. "Charmer," Trinity calls her with a roll of her eyes. She could say the same thing about them.
"Hola Goyo.. Where the hell is she?" Yolanda asks into the phone.
The three had been all set to take an uber, but Yolanda's brother insisted his daughter should come pick them up.
Yolanda continues her conversation while Baran and Trinity try not to listen in. Yolanda continues saying something in Spanish that sounds almost like a threat. Baran and Trinity make eye contact at their girlfriends' tone and giggle at the idea of what she could be saying to her older brother.
"Yaya! Over here!" A shouting voice captures their attention, and they turn to see a waving arm outside of an old looking Jeep Cherokee.
Yolanda hangs up with her brother and waves back, "Sofia!"
"Yaya?" Trinity teases slyly, but Yolanda just shoves her shoulder. "Shut up, its a family name."
They approach the car and the woman that gets out of the car looks nearly identical to Yolanda, just younger. She throws herself into Yolanda's arms and they embrace quickly.
"Oh I missed you!" The younger girl laughs, pulling away. "I brought your baby for you."
"Its your baby now," Yolanda reminds her.
"Only for another year, Dad says when I graduate I might get a car."
Baran and Trinity watch the exchange with matching smiles, although Trinity's is a little more awkward. Yolanda steps back and waves in their direction, "Baran, Trinity, this is my niece. Sof, this is Trinity and Baran. They're my girlfriends. "
Baran and Trinity murmur their own greetings.
"Uh.. both of them?" Sofia asks, seeming confused. There's an awkward silence between them.
Dread fills Trinity's stomach from the bottom up.
"Hey fucker. Not funny." Yolanda deadpans.
"I was just kidding," Sofia defends herself, her face breaking back into a smile. She raises her hands defensively, "Dad and Abuela have given the whole family the run down, believe me. They threw a pride party last week."
"Still. Be nice." Yolanda asserts, stepping away from her niece and beginning to load up their bags into the trunk. She gives both her girlfriends an apologetic look as she passes them.
"For that you get to sit in the back." She tells her niece with a smile Trinity's dubbed as her "evil" smile before.
And so Yolanda takes the keys, Baran and Yolanda get in the front while Trinity and Sofia sit in the back.
The car is old, maybe even older than Trinity. It has definitely seen better days, the carpeted ceiling is being held up by push pins and theres an old faded sticker in the window of a clown on Trinity's window.
"I left that there once when I was like five, never could get it off." Sofia supplies for her when she sees Trinity tracing it with a finger. Trinity smiles, picturing a younger version of Yolanda driving a pint-sized version of Sofia in the car.
"How do you feel being back home?" Baran asks Yolanda as they pull onto the interstate. "Feels weird. Everything the same.. but different. Hey- that construction is STILL going on?!"
"I think its technically construction to fix the construction you're thinking of." Sofia supplies.
"Construction-ception," Santos mutters, earning a smile from Yolanda's niece.
"So you said you graduate soon Sofia? Where are you thinking of going to college?" Baran asks from her spot in the front.
Sofia laughs, "Oh I'm not in highschool, I'm in undergrad. I go to Florida State for Motion Picture. I plan on applying for the MFA after but I might go off and do freelance instead."
Trinity lets Baran and Yolanda do most of the talking as she watches the world outside change from interstate to a beach town. Small shacks line the roadways, businesses of all kinds, and as they near the AirBnB they can see the waves from the car.

They arrive to their AirBnb, a small one bedroom condo on the floor of an apartment complex with a small patio facing the water. Baran ended up making the decision because Trinity and Yolanda couldn't stop oohing and ahhing at properties to make a decision.
They trusted her judgement, and although it was weird to be in a new place, Trinity liked the layout.
There was a small kitchen with an island, a small living room area that opened up to the patio, and a bedroom on the right which seemed to hold a pretty large king bed. Trinity abandons her suitcase somewhere in the kitchen and makes a beeline to the patio.
She pulls open the large glass sliding door and steps out onto the porch which seems to open up to a boardwalk. Beyond the board walk lies hundreds of feet of sand until the shore.
Trinity closes her eyes and breathes in the sea air, letting the soothing sound of the waves calm her. She feels arms wrap around her from behind and she leans back into them, glancing up at Baran.
She can hear the muted echoes of Yolanda and Sofia's conversation from inside the convo.
"It's nice, isn't it?" Baran muses, pressing a kiss to her temple. "It is." Trinity agrees.
For a moment, Trinity thinks about Farouk, and how she does wish he was able to come with.
She doesn't bring it up though, she's sure Baran's thinking the same thing. Next time they'll figure out how to fit it in with his school schedule.
"Want to go put our feet in the water?" Baran suggests, and Trinity can help but get excited at the idea.
"Sure! Let's go tell Yo-"
"Alright ladies, what do we want to do for lunch?" Yolanda interrupts, stepping outside with them. "There's no food in the house but we could go to the grocery store- but I also know some cool places nearby we could try out."
Well there goes that plan.
"I am feeling a little peckish," Baran comments. Trinity nods, "So maybe we'll grocery shop later and go eat somewhere now?" She suggests.
Yolanda shrugs, leaving the decision up to them, "Sure. I know an Italian market nearby that makes awesome sandwiches." Yolanda turns to call into the condo, "Yo Sof, text your dad that we're going to Zaro's."

The drive to Zaro's only takes a few minutes.
By the time they pile back into the Jeep, Trinity has already accepted that her feet are not making it into the ocean before food.
The Italian market sits in a faded strip plaza wedged between a bait shop and a laundromat. The red awning outside has seen better days, but the parking lot is packed.
"Wow. Look's busy," Baran notes.
"It smells amazing though," Trinity says as soon as they step inside.
The place is small, but crowded and loud. People shout greetings across the deli counter. Someone's toddler is crying near the drink coolers. Fresh bread, garlic, and something fried hangs heavy in the air.
Yolanda grins. "This place hasn't changed at all."
The woman behind the counter spots her immediately.
"No way is that Yolanda Garcia?"
Yolanda freezes.
"Oh no."
"What?" Trinity asks.
"Run."
But before anyone can retreat he woman abandons the register entirely.
"Yolanda Garcia!"
Before Yolanda can react, she's being pulled into a crushing hug.
Baran immediately starts laughing. "Do you know her?"
"Everybody knows her," Sofia supplies helpfully, "Her family owns the shop."
The woman finally releases Yolanda long enough to smack her arm.
"You disappear for years and this is how I find out you're back?"
"I just got here thirty minutes ago!"
"Excuses."
Trinity watches the exchange with amusement.
It is strange seeing Yolanda like this.
Back in Pittsburgh, Yolanda always seems completely in control of everything around her. Here she's being fussed over by complete strangers before she's even had lunch.
The woman finally notices them. Her eyes narrow and then widen.
"Oh. Did you bring a girlfriend or something?"
Yolanda shrugs, "or something."
"My name's Cindy," the woman supplies before Yolanda can introduce them. "I used to date this one. Unfortunately."
"Unfortunately?" Yolanda repeats.
"You dated me for six months and then disappeared to Pittsburgh and never called."
"I went to medical school."
"Excuses, excuses."
"Trin, Baran, this is Cindy. We dated in highschool. Cindy, these are my girlfriends." She informs her awkwardly. Its obvious by Yolanda's tone that she wants her to drop it.
There is a beat. Then the woman, Cindy, points dramatically.
"Both of them?"
"Jesus Christ," Yolanda mutters, facepalming at her reaction. "Yes both of them. Now, I think Gregorio put in an order?" She says, trying to move the conversation away from her relationship.
Sofia nearly chokes trying not to laugh.
Trinity watches the exchange with mild amusement. There is absolutely no tension to it. Whatever relationship they had clearly expired years ago.
After ordering enough sandwiches to feed a small army, they carry everything outside.
"Well look who finally showed up." A deep voice calls across the outside dining area.
Gregorio is seated at one of the picnic tables beneath a large umbrella. Trinity has seen him before in photos around Yolanda's apartment, he's a tall man who has Yolanda's eyes and her stature.
Two other men sit with him who also closely resemble Yolanda. They must be Yolanda's brothers.
Gregorio stands first.
The oldest of the three, he pulls Yolanda into a hug before immediately turning toward Baran and Trinity. "Hi. I'm Greg," He says with a smile and a wave. "I assume you're Baran and Trinity?" he asks, glancing at both of them respectively.
Santiago, the middle brother, offers each of them a handshake. "Hola," He says. He's a large man with a scratchy graying beard.
Diego, the youngest, ignores the concept of personal space entirely and quickly opens his arms to pull them in.
"Oh no," Yolanda mutters. "Oh yes!" He sings.
Diego wraps both Baran and Trinity into an enthusiastic but sweaty group hug before either can object.
"Welcome to Florida." He sighs, and Trinity swears she catches a whiff of thc off of him. Ah, so that's what Yolanda meant by telling her that he's a free spirit.
"Uh.. Thank you?" Trinity says.
"You'll get used to him," Gregorio promises.
"No they won't," Sofia teases. She gives her uncles high fives.
Everyone settles around the picnic table with paper-wrapped sandwiches and drinks.
There were too many adults. That was Trinity's official diagnosis.
By the time everyone had collected their food and found seats outside, one side of the table had been claimed by Yolanda, Baran and Trinity, while her brothers, and Sofia sat on the other side.
The way they're situated, Trinity feels a little far from the action but does her best to pay attention to the conversation.
Trinity wrinkles her nose, she hates being relegated to the kids end of the table. The worst part was she couldn't properly hear anything happening further down. The conversation drifted over in fragments. Something about Greg's construction company?
"...had to replace the whole thing."
"You should've seen his face." The end of the table laughed.
"I'm telling you, the contractor—"
"That's not what happened." Interrupts Santiago, turning to face his brother and argue. Yolanda begins talking to Diego and Baran about how the town has changed so much since she was a girl.
Trinity sighed dramatically and turned her attention back to her sandwich.
"So," Sofia says, unwrapping her sandwich. "I know a little of how you met from YaYa. But I want to hear it from you because she's been so scarce on the details."
Trinity laughs, "That's a dangerous question. I'll tell you if you tell me why you call her YaYa."
"Deal."
So Trinity dives in to telling her about her first day- she leaves out the Langdon of it all of course.
"Wait she was flirting with you over a patient?" Sofia interrupted at some point, "-and then I dropped a scalpel in her foot." Trinity fills in.
The rest of the table must have started to listen in because Diego hoots after Trinity divulges that bit of information. Realizing they have an audience, Trinity looks up at the rest of the table and her cheeks pink a little.
"I still have the battle scar," Yolanda chimes in.
Yolanda and Baran are giving her encouraging smiles so she continues, "So I thought I fucked it all up. I mean, Yolanda has this reputation in the ED for being really hard on residents too so I thought I was going to get chewed out. Instead she told me I could make it up to her with a drink, so I plucked up the courage sometime a week later."
She stops the story there. It was a long time ago, almost two full years now, but that in between period still gives Trinity uncomfortable feelings she doesn't like to think about.
They've all grown and changed, and she has to let go of it at some point, right?
She lets Yolanda steer the conversation from there. There's some continuity there she doesn't want to ruin. Whatever Yolanda's told them about the period where they were just casual, she doesn't want to step into.
But to her surprise, she's mostly honest.
"Actually I had a hard time getting my head out of my ass so that wasn't the end of it." Yolanda admits, "I didn't even ask her out. But then then months later Baran came in and was braver than I was. I realized at some point I had fucked up and we all talked about it.. and yeah. At some point we realized we're just better together than we are apart."
As if to cement that fact, Baran pulls Yolanda in closer and Trinity brushes her leg against Yolandas.
The conversation changes after that,
Something about a fence.
Something about a roof.
Something about chairs.
Something about Gregorio nearly falling off said roof.
As lunch winds down, wrappers and paper trays begin accumulating in the middle of the table.
"I'll take it," Trinity volunteers before anyone else can move.
The offer is met with immediate enthusiasm.
Within seconds Gregorio is handing her his trash, Santiago has somehow produced three empty soda bottles.
"Wow," Trinity says, balancing everything in her arms. "You people work fast."
"We believe in delegation," Santiago informs her.
"You believe in making it somebody else's problem." Yolanda corrects.
"Exactly."
Trinity rolls her eyes and heads toward the trash cans near the side of the building.
By the time she's finished, the sounds of the restaurant feel pleasantly distant. The ocean breeze cuts through some of the heat and she decides to take a moment to herself, fishing her vape from her pocket.
The first inhale immediately takes some of the edge off.
She leans against the side of the building and pulls out her phone.
A text from Whitaker is waiting for her.
Huck: How's Florida?
A second message follows.
Huck: Also can I use your shampoo?
Trinity snorts.
Of all the things he could be worried about.
She types back.
Trinity: It's hot. Like stupid hot, and we've been busy since we've landed.
The typing bubble appears almost immediately.
Huck: That's not fun.
Trinity smiles.
Trinity: Everyone's been nice though.
Trinity: And yes you can use my shampoo.
A pause.
Trinity: But if I come home and it's empty I'm billing you.
The typing bubble appears again.
Huck: Wow. No trust.
Trinity: Correct.
Huck: I save your life almost every day.
Trinity: You steal my lunch almost every day.
A few dots appear.
Disappear.
Then:
Huck: That's a fair point.
Trinity chuckles to herself and slips her phone back into her pocket.
For a moment she just stands there listening to the distant crash of waves.
When she rounds the corner toward the picnic tables again, she can already hear Gregorio talking loud enough for half the county to hear.
Apparently her break is over.
Santiago finds her as she turns her phone back off, his eyes looking at her vape with a hopeful expression. "Would you mind if I...." He asks. Trinity looks down at her vape, shrugs, and hands it over.
"Sure." She says.
"Oof, Gracias. My wife is trying to get me to quit.. but, when in Rome right?" He says easily and takes a hit. "When my youngest daughter was born she decided we both needed to quit. Shits hard though."
"How are your kids? I think Yolanda's shown me photos." Trinity asks, extending the olive branch.
"They're perfect as always. Jacqueline, my eldest, is graduating highschool this year. Ruben is ten, he's into karate and is a green belt- and Olivia my youngest just turned 24 months."
He turns on his phone and scrolls through his camera roll to show her different photos. The eldest playing soccer on her highschool team, Ruben at a karate practice, and Olivia covered from head to toe in spaghetti.
"Hahaha, how did that happen?" Trinity asks.
Santiago grimaces for a moment, "My wife had a short stint into photography. This one didn't go so well in the end- the clean up was horrible." He explains, making Trinity giggle.
The next picture appears.
Then another.
Then another.
Trinity finds herself subjected to a small slideshow while Santiago proudly narrates.
Somewhere around the eighth photo, the restaurant door opens again.
Sofia steps outside. "Uncle Santi!"
"Don't make me tell Aunt Gina." She threatens, moving closer.
Santiago groans beside Trinity. "Don't be a narc Sof, I'm just getting to know our newest family member." He says, wrapping an arm around Trinity as if it would help excuse him.
"You promised my aunt you quit."
"I mostly quit." He argues.
"That's not a thing." Sofia walks over.
Santiago points at Trinity like a child, attempting to move the blame. "She let me."
"You're a forty year old man. Trinity doesn't know what she's doing."
Santiago looks pleased with himself.
Sofia sighs.
Then she looks at Trinity.
"Can I hit it?"
For a second there's silence.
Then Santiago starts laughing. Trinity isn't far behind.
"You just got done lecturing him!" Trintiy exclaims.
"I know." Sofia shrugs.
Santiago wipes a hand down his face.
"You're both terrible influences."
"That's rich coming from you."
A few minutes later, they head back toward the picnic tables.
As Trinity approaches, she catches Yolanda watching her.
Just for a second.
A quick once-over.
Checking.
Trinity gives a small shake of her head and mouths, "I'm fine."
Yolanda's shoulders visibly relax. Whatever she'd been worried about, she lets it go.
By the time Trinity sits back down, the conversation has moved on.
"...so are you coming or not?" Gregorio is asking.
"We'll be there," Yolanda says.
Trinity blinks.
Apparently a decision has been made.
"A crawfish boil," Baran explains quietly.
"Oh."
Guess that's that then.
They stay another twenty minutes before everyone begins filtering out.
Sofia leaves with her dad, promising to see them later.
The three women pile back into the Jeep and head toward the condo.

For instance I am a teacher and personally I don’t want to change my last name because growing up I always pictured my students calling me by my maiden last name. All of my things are monogrammed with this name and the moment I get married nothing will match anymore 😭
The beginning of their poly relationship came with lots of ups and downs. Trinity was still a little raw from her past experiences and had trouble trusting that their relationship could work out. Baran has responsibilities as a mother that keeps her from joining them some evenings. Yolanda seemed to be trying to make up for her past transgressions by going over and beyond for the both of them; it was exhausting her.
The biggest problem? Choosing who gets to be in the middle when they sleep at night or cuddle on the couch. Secretly, Trinity loved to be the "hot dog", but had trouble advocating for it. On the outside she didn't always feel like she belongs.
"I wanna be the hot-dog," she'll proclaim when she sees them sitting together on the couch, plopping herself down between them. They know its hard for Trinity to ask for things sometimes, and this is her way of asking for attention.
Baran doesn't necessarily care where she is in their cuddle pile, if anything she'd prefer to stay sleeping on the same side of the bed she has her whole life.
Yolanda just wants to be holding someone, and if she can choose, she wants to be on her back with both of her women cuddling up to her.
Its not that serious, I swear. But it turns into Trinity and Yolanda bickering over the coveted "hot dog" position. Baran suggests they should just switch out every night but they veto that idea because its "too boring". Instead they play a nightly game of ninja and whoever wins gets to be in the middle.

"Trinity?"
Yolanda snaps in front of her face from the passenger seat. "Mm? What." Trinity had her hand in her palm gazing at the pouring rain in thought.
Baran's concerned eyed glance at her from the rearview mirror. "You know you could stay home if you're not up for it, I know today is hard for yo-"
"No."
"The last thing I need is to be home doing nothing. Work is a decent distraction." She goes back to staring out the car window. If she went home now she would just be wallowing in self pity. They get close to the hospital a few minutes later.
Baran pulls into the parking garage and they all get out and gather their bags. The rain likely meant there'd be a buttload of minor accidents and slip and falls. Yolanda throws an arm around Trinity's waist as they walk towards the elevators. "How about after work we all go out? We haven't had a proper restaurant date in a while." Trinity's stomach grumbles at the thought.
When was the last time I ate actually?
Like, yesterday, day before?
"Maybe." Trinity mumbles. She walks a bit ahead of them. "I don't, I don't know." She murmurs.
Yolanda drops her hand and quietly sighs. Trinity had been so upset lately. She'd barely even dropped. If this went on any longer she'd go insane from stress. Baran comes up to her side. "I'll keep an eye on her today, alright?"
"It's a lot, even for her."
Trinity sits at her desk and mumbles her next chart not even proofreading for any mistakes. Dana watched her with a concerned look. "Hey Santos, you doing okay? You wanna take a minute in the break room?"
She barely reacts to the charge nurse's voice and presses her palm to her forehead. "Mm fine, just-headache." Dana isn't convinced and gently takes the device from her hands and rests it on the table. "Do you want a snack or something hun?"
Trinity shakes her head and keeps charting as Dana sighs. Baran rounds a corner and she nods her head for her to follow her. Whatever was up with Trinity, Baran would definitely know.
"Baran, what's going on with Santos? Haven't seen her this upset since her favorite show got cancelled." Baran sighs. She really didn't want people knowing but Trinity was gonna run herself thin at this rate.
"7 years ago today her best friend killed herself."
Dana's eyes go wide. "Why didn't she take today off? I'm sure Robby would've let her." Baran shakes her head. "She's stubborn, refused to take a break or even regress all week. Just been on her laptop moping."
Dana nods sadly. "Have you tried talking to her? Maybe it'll help if you three sat down an-" A loud voice from the nurse's station interrupts her.
"Hey I need a gurney!" That was Dennis's voice, what-
Baran peeks around the corner and sees Trinity on the floor with Samira and Dennis kneeling over and checking her pulse. "Trin." She gasps and run towards them, with Dana behind. A few nurses crowd around and Baran has to practically shove them out the way.
"What-what happen-" Baran tries to calm herself down. She takes her eyes off her for ten seconds. Dennis just shakes his head. "I was talking to her about a case and then she just fell from her chair." Baran gently pats Trinity's cheek.
"Trinity can you hear me?"
No response.
Perlah comes around with a gurney worriedly looking down at them. "Is she alright?"
Baran sighs. "On three, okay?"
They lift her onto the gurney as gently as possible. "Wake up for me baby." She gives her a sternum rub.
Nothing.
"Fuck." Samira looks over concerned as they get her to a room. Dennis pricks her finger. "Blood sugar's at 53, when was the last time she ate?" Baran goes blank. She has a vague memory of Trinity eating dinner, nibbling on the broccoli before-
"Oh my god. I haven't been payin-"
"I'm such a-" Samira stops her. "Don't. Don't say that." They get her on a pulse ox and iv. "Her vitals are low, we gotta get her on fluids." Trinity hadn't woken up but she looked exhausted.
Samira and Dennis finish up and step back. "She should perk up from the meds." He murmurs.
Baran nods. "It's probably exhaustion." She takes a seat next to the bed and holds Trinity's hand. "Can you page-"
"Garcia? Yeah." Samira nods. "I'll get her."
Baran sighs and looks down. "I'll be out in a minute. I'm sure there'll be a trauma soon."
Samira and Dennis give each other concerned looks. Baran's focus would be thrown off with Trinity down. They still had a lot of the shift left. "We'll let you know if anything else comes in, ok Dr. Al?"
"Dr. Al?"
"Yeah..ok."
"I'll be here."
"Trinity, stop here."
"Wendy, what?" The girl runs out the car towards the beach as Trinity follows. "The water is amazing."
"Only you could find joy from the freezing ocean water Wend- Aah!" Wendy splashes her with the sea water. "Now come on, I'll race you along the shore!"
Trinity shakes her head with a laugh and sprints after her. Days like this after gymnastics practice always made it seem a little better.
Trinity slowly blinks her eyes open and whines. "M-mama?" Baran perks up from the chair. "Trin, are you-"
Trinity starts crying and reaching out to Baran. The last few days were suddenly hitting all at once. "I'm-I'm So-" Baran holds her tightly. "I know, I know baby." She kisses her cheek gently as she hugs her close. Trinity practically pulls her onto the bed as Yolanda walks in full of worry.
"You're okay."
Yolanda takes a seat. "Baby, when was the last time you ate?" Trinity sniffles and wipes her eyes. "Um. pizza wednesday, Da."
"Hun, it's Friday, why didn't you say anything?"
Trinity quietly sniffles as Baran holds her hand.
"I miss Wendy."
The two women both exhale. She finally said what they've been walking on eggshells around for the past week. Trinity was likely keeping it all bottled up.
Baran kisses her head. "I know you do my love. But she's still in here, right?" She puts a hand over Trinity's heart. "In your memories, your drawings..."
"She'll always be with you." Baran kisses her hand as Yolanda holds her other one. "How about we get you some snacks, get your energy up, and then we can nap, okay?" Trinity nods.
Baran gets up along with Yolanda and step out.
"Baran?"
"Mm?"
"What-um-how are we gonna help her?"
Baran sighs and nudges her shoulder. "I found a really good therapist that I've been trying to get her to go to, and,
We should talk to her more. About her feelings, her past, I hate to have her feel like she can't talk to us." Yolanda agrees, and shortly after they get a boatload of snacks from the desk.
