the catcher and umpire relationship is so funny to me because they're like friends that can barely stand each other. they're worried about each other's wellbeing and there's a ton of mutual respect but it's also well known that the catcher is trying to fool the umpire and the umpire is trying to catch him. the catcher will probably end the game resenting the umpire no matter what. they just have to hang out for three hours not as friends but also not as enemies and not even really as coworkers. it's so fascinating to me.
