I plan on becoming the girl of my own dreams
Why are you vegan?
lots of reasons!
environment - the western diet isn’t sustainable and is literally destroying the earth, but just one vegan reduces carbon emissions by 1.5 tons per year, not eating meat means not contributing to the ridiculous amounts of methane, ammonia, and nitrous oxide that are produced through raising livestock, being vegan means reducing deforestation, a vegan’s carbon footprint is less than half that of a meat eater’s, and an entire third of the worlds land that can be used for farming is going towards agriculture, which wouldn’t be quite as bad if it were feeding starving humans, but it’s feeding animals instead
health - cancer, alzheimer’s, heart disease, and basically every disease out there can be prevented or chances of getting it are dramatically decreased by cutting out animal products. cholesterol, which is only found in animal products, increases risk of stroke, heart disease, and clogged arteries, and your body already produces all the cholesterol it needs so there’s pretty much no reason to consume it from animal products, eating dairy actually increases risks of osteoporosis and countries who consume the lowest amounts of dairy also conveniently have the lowest rates of osteoporosis, dairy is also linked to prostate cancer, and almost everyone who cuts out dairy also notices better skin
ethical reasons - this one is more personal, but most people i know wouldn’t be able to eat the food they do if they had to watch the process of where it comes from. a lot of people just aren’t aware of what it takes to produce the meat and dairy that we consume and i don’t think this unawareness makes you a bad person but i do think its important to educate yourself on where your food comes from. if you believe that animals were put on this earth for humans to eat them you completely have a right to your own opinion, but you can’t ignore the environmental implications that your beliefs have
slaughterhouse workers also have some of the highest rates of PTSD compared to any other job and i just think that’s interesting to point out
what is your grocery essentials list for being vegan?
how did i never think of doing this before!! i’ll try and make this as accurate as possible -
- almond milk and coconut milk
- nutritional yeast
- ben and jerrys dairy free ice cream (necessity)
- egg replacers and corn starch
- hummus
- granola bars, especially cliff bars
- amy’s organic beans and rice burritos
- earth balance vegan butter and mayo
- skinnypop or other popcorn, veggie straws, veggie chips
- nuts: peanuts, almonds, and pistachios. and peanut butter
- fruits: bananas, apples, grapes, strawberries, and pineapple are the main ones
- ancient harvest pasta - the quinoa and lentil kind cause of all the protein
- dairy free chocolate chips
- fake meats: beyond meat chicken strips, lightlife bacon strips and black bean burgers, 365 meatless meatballs, seitan, tofu
- rolled oats, sourdough bread for sandwiches, tortillas for wraps, english muffins, black bean tortilla chips for dipping in guac, hamburger buns for the black bean burgers
- BEANS: basically every kind but especially black beans, garbanzo beans, and cannellini beans. Also lentils
- brown rice, quinoa, and barley
- veggies: i don’t eat these as much as i should but i’ll buy a lot of frozen mixed vegetable bags for stir fry, or sun dried tomatoes for pasta, broccoli, and lettuce and spinach for salads
and that’s the basics!! sorry it doesn’t really go in any sort of order haha
You will be shocked, kids, when you discover how easy it is in life to part ways with people forever. That’s why, when you find someone you want to keep around, you do something about it.
How I Met Your Mother (via alunit)
“For those who are lost, there will always be cities that feel like home.”
Perhaps one of the most deadly terrorist attacks in the last decade hit Baghdad last night. The death toll is at 200 and climbing by the minute. The victims were mainly families out preparing for Eid or celebrating. People were trapped and burning for hours after the explosion. There is little to no media coverage. No one is mourning, no one believes this is relevant, no one cares. 200 families destroyed. It’s so frustrating. What is it about Iraqi blood that makes it so cheap? Why is our misery okay? Why does the world light up for literally everywhere else? I just want to know why does no one care when it comes to Iraq. Our martyrs don’t get pictures or names. They become a number that people ignore.
I’m in love with dead memories.
