I need everyone to understand the above gif is unedited. That actually played on TV.
people keep asking about this one as well
Now THIS is real art
That,Smile,That,Kiss.
Reylo,Forever..
A lot of people are actually unaware of what the white savior trope is, and have trouble understanding why it is problematic. So before I continue, this is about Daenerys and if you like her then just—don’t read this. And it’s OKAY to like her but don’t deny that her character is a perfect example of white feminism/saviorism.
A lot of comments (from mostly white women) are “well, were the slaves supposed to stay slaves” or “where would they be if Dany to save them! They chose her!” (and y’all refernce the earlier seasons where she is being carried around by brown and black ppl, thank you @rhaeneystargaryen for reminding me ) Y’all are missing the fucking point, and your whiteness and ignorance of women of color shows.
The fact of the matter that you HAVE a white character who is positioned as a savior for people of color has horrible implications. White authors have—for too long—put white characters in positions of power over people of color where—said people of color couldn’t be saved if it weren’t for white people.
This idea that, a white person, especially a white woman is some type of savior for people of color comes from racism and it isn’t something that started with Daenerys. This idea was used to justify things like slavery, colonialization and a lot of other terrible things. This idea that people of color (esp black and indigenous people) were naturally unable to lead themselves and or, uneducated and unable to survive without the aid of white interaction is called the white savior trope—and again, this was used to enforce mass genocide, racism and colonailzation.
Because of white feminism and racism, this has been played out in media as a form of female empowerment. By making a white woman the savior and leader of people of color and painting said poc as savage like before her interaction, you are reinforcing those roles. By seeing Dany’s rule as anything other than white imperialism and racism, you ARE justifying and supporting the same tropes that were used to justify white supremacy.
Dany continued to threaten, burn villages, holy sites, conquer, kill poc, etc if they would not listen to her. And some people may say “well she killed people who didn’t listen to her”. WHY is that good? Why is the face of a white woman killing brown and black people good? Why is it good that the white author INTENTIONALLY set up poc to be brutes so a white woman could burn them or force them into submission if they did not bow to her.
There is nothing empowering about a white outsider liberating a group of ‘savage slaves’, using them for her own goals, and threatening to kill/burn other black and brown people that don’t listen to her. It may be empowering for white women, to see “savage” people of color “tamed” and inferior to a white woman but y’all are racist so it isn’t a damn surprise.
The sheer ignorance of white women to act like there is nothing wrong with that, and to act like various people willingly followed her just shows how racist you are. shows how, for how you all act like you are liberal and woke, conflate feminism with the oppression of people of color.
So when you see people—ESPECIALLY WOMEN OF COLOR—complaining about Daenerys, and your responses are to make bitter posts or to call us sexist, then literally be quiet and reflect on your own racism. If you are going to try to use the slaves, and the people of color Dany used to her benefit to act like she’s a good person, then kindly shut the fuck up.
Also white women CAN reblog this but don’t act like a clown.
europeans are so vicious when it comes to eurovision, this is the best day of the year for us
Stop. Giving. Germany. Points.
We’re working hard for our last place so stop ruining it for us
Netherlands: wins
me, knowing that Iceland, Norway and Italy were robbed and a ballad won:
The Netherlands won, Sweden flopped, UK’s last. All is well
Maybe The Netherlands won but Mahmood is 2nd and he’s the winner in my heart
HOLY SHIT! Iceland holding up Palestine flags and the cameras moving away quick. I’m shaking. I’m so here for it. LEGENDS!
Stop talking and give us more lengends singing each others song and no American granny! Urg
Europe w Madonna:
Europe with Verka Serduchka:
if it hurts to be alive clap your hands *clap clap*
i know eurovision isn’t that deep but if you say anything bad about mahmood i’ll break your kneecaps
Italy having “ it hurts to be alive ” as a text behind them is probably the biggest mood
If I read one more review or recap that just goes oh well guess Jaime always loved her the most and that’s how life is :)
I’m going to throw something
Like dear god, if they were really gonna make lannicest some pure emotional romantic ending why the FUCK HAS THE LAST TWO SEASONS BEEN JAIME PULLING AWAY
There is ZERO indication that Jaime is conflicted inside until he leaves and it’s lazy and reductionist to make him go back purely out of love.
Like for fucks sake, number one that’s extremely disrespectful to Brienne as a character and to their VERY LONG and significant journey together.
Number 2, as many people have already pointed out, what was the point? What was the point of seasons worth of character development and plot lines and significant moments to only turn it all on its head?
They don’t get to fetishize the incest and go well they were brought into this world together so they have to leave in together, in love.
It makes ZERO sense given what we’ve seen and been told about both characters. I understand not everyone can have a happy ending and that they’re both messed up, but from a storytelling perspective it’s so fucking STUPID. It reduces both of them to what they were in the first scene we saw them despite ten years of us being shown that they aren’t actually each other’s perfect halves.
Besides the slight to Jaime and Brienne, I find it frustrating Lena was wasted and also that Cersei gets such a tragic sweet ending.
Why did Talisa get stabbed brutally when pregnant and die a horrible death? Why did Catelyn get her throat cut after living her worst nightmare? And on and on and on…
I understand and accept that part of the moral/lesson/point of game of thrones/asoiaf is that being good doesn’t mean you win and that bad things happen to good people blah blah blah
That’s fine! But if you’ve hyped up one villain, OVER the other much more significant one (cough night king) then you better be prepared to deliver a solid ending/death. Viewers deserve that. Obviously you don’t write everything to service the viewer BUT in the grand finale of a show like this after what Cersei has done, it’s pretty fucking earned by the audience especially if everything else is gonna be shit on story wise.
You can’t subvert everything and make it all shocking and call it successful. Good writing leads a reader or viewer to the conclusion or at least some of it. People LOVE being right and having that hype fulfilled. It’s part of why we consume media. It’s not failing if people can see what’s coming. Shocks and twists can be fun but they need to be grounded in the reality of the show and be used efficiently. Not as the norm.
