I Stand With Taylor

I could write about how unfair this world is and point out all the negative things that come to us in life, but I’m not going to do that. I am simply going to ask you all to stand by the woman I have watched grow and prosper while I was growing myself.

I have been listening to Taylor Swift ever since I can remember. I have stood by her side when everyone else seemed to be against her. The woman I know sings to sick patients in the hospital. The woman I know donates money to students and buys homes for homeless fans. She meets fans for free before and after her concerts. She invites fans into her homes so she can get to know them and show them her music as if they are best friends. She loves cats and writes songs for children who have passed away from cancer. She won a sexual assault case for $1. She started a petition for LGBTQ+ rights. She has spent years giving to her fans and giving to the world. It is our turn to petition for her rights.

It occurs to me that the thing which holds her back is the fact that she is a woman. I would not have to be sitting here writing this if she were a man. She would not have to be asking her fans for help if she were a man. The men holding her back are seeking money and power, but she is seeking a world where artists, women, LGBTQ+ community members, and other minorities do not have to fight to be recognized as humans. Please help us fight so we can all see that world one day.

I’m kinda freaking out so I’m just going to rant here if that is okay. I’m moving into college on the 30th. And don’t get me wrong, I’m really excited. But this past year was honestly the worst year of my life. I lost a lot of friends and supporters but it also highlighted all of the wonderful people I have in my life. I don’t know if I am ready to lose those people. They were my support group when I honestly didn’t even know how to carry on anymore. I love them all and am going to miss them so so much. How will I do in a cold city like Boston without their love to keep me warm?
