What To Do After Finding Typos In Your Book
It’s a writer’s worst nightmare. Your book is uploaded to online retailers, sales are rolling in, reviews are popping up on Goodreads… and then you see it.
Typo.
Oh, no. The realisation hits you like a sledgehammer to the gut. Before you go handing in your author badge, take a peek at the bullets below and cross them off your list.
#1 Talk to your publisher.
Your publisher should be more than willing to help. Often, this’ll include a bit of extra work on their part, since the error needs to be corrected and the document re-uploaded to all distributors. When I spotted an error in UNTOUCHABLE - a simple tense shift - I shot an email to my editor. She had it fixed within 24 hours. See? Piece of cake.
#2 Realise mistakes happen.
Even with an elite team of betas, editors and proofreaders in your corner, as well as multiple rounds of revisions, things will slip through the net. That’s inevitable. It’s the same for authors signed with one of the Big Six and authors with a small or digital-first publisher. There are hundreds of thousands of characters in a 60,000-word novel, so it’s impossible to root out all the bad eggs.
#3 Most readers won’t even notice.
No kidding. I know for a fact there are one or two grammar gaffes sprinkled throughout UNTOUCHABLE - on the balance of probabilities, there has to be - but no one’s called me up on it. That’s because the mind tends to gloss over minor errors as if they never existed. Convenient, huh?
The moral? Finding typos isn’t the end the world. It’s just part of the job description. So don’t stress.

Happy 20mg day!
Today I am officially on 20mg of my antidepressants. This time last year I was self-harming and hiding from everything on 30mg. To think I have made it this far in only a year is a hell of an achievement.

Ok. So it’s been a while, and I’ve been on antidepressants constantly, I feel like I’m starting to get my shit together.
I lasted through college, I got a DDM and I’m so happy. I then got a high merit (only 3 points off a distinction) in Grade 6 Piano, and a distinction (95%) in Grade 8 Musical Theatre. I got a job, which I start on Thursday, and I’m finally comfortable being me. Things are getting done around the house which makes me feel happy. I have a new wardrobe, the front room is cleared out, the back room is neat.
However, mum has decided she isn’t happy here at the moment and is planning to go to New Zealand and stay for a few months. Apparently that’s going to solve all of our problems. So naturally I’m being shipped out of my room and into a flat in Teddington? I suppose we’ll just have to see how the next few weeks play out.
I’m sorry, just having a bit of a rough day…

Well here we go... Weeks after my NYR fell through, I had another day that had me turning to Tumblr to vent my problems...
This sentence kind of got away with me. Bit late, this one was from last Thursday

The past two days gave been pretty dull... I slept and went to YAT. So, as of yesterday I am on antidepressants and I forgot I had college today and suicidal tendencies is one of the side effects... I'm not sure they understand why I went to the doctors... Anyway, I can't sleep (side effect), or focus on anything (side effect), and I'm really tired (side effect). Hopefully it'll all settle down soon.

"I take it your phone died" you've lied to me before. I know that no response means you're probably with her. Don't give me that crap.
I made myself bleed and it didn't help.

I spent most of my time at my friends house. She introduced me to Fame. Both the old film and the 2007(?) film. I also watched Perks of being a Wallflower, which is amazing and wow... In the evening I had to leave to get to my singing teachers house because my family were celebrating Burns' night with them. It was great fun. The haggis was delicious and I could live off it forever.

Today I went to sit in a cafe to use their Internet because ours has messed up. I spent a long time there, but I managed to fix some parts of the Love to Sing website. I then went to thegirlinthecloudedstars house and we sang and danced and it was fun. I stayed the night.

Had college, but went home early because I had a headache. Also, in my events management class, I was told that I have to be more outspoken. Not much else happened, but I'm still on the road down...

I had a quiet day working on college work and the Love to Sing Holidays social media. In the evening I went to London with two of my friends to see Wicked. It was unbelievable, and I really don't deserve my beautiful ginger who bought us all dinner and the tickets for Wicked and a programme each and merch from the show and train tickets and wow... I had goosebumps all the way through the show!! We also went and stood by the stage door and we got signatures from the actors who played Boq, Elphaba and Glinda.
