i canāt explain how every scene with shmi makes me feel. pernilla augustās performance is so underrated and enigmatic. you already feel like sheās preemptively mourning her sonās future
āWell, what are you waiting for? Get going!ā Sergeant Burner barked across the holotable at the other members of Jailbird squad. They sounded off a chorus of āyes sirāsā and hustled out of the briefing room. General Jare lingered a moment longer.
āGreat work, sarge,ā Jare said, and placed a hand on Burnerās pauldron. A subtle gesture, but clearly friendlier than a pat on the back.
Burner smiled. A deep, warm fondness in his eyes betrayed any plausible deniability the general had offered him. He took their hand in his and planted a kiss on their knuckles.
Jare blushed bright red, their gaze darting back and forth between Burner and the open door. āSarge,ā they whispered urgently, āthe squadās waiting on us.ā
āLet them wait,ā he replied, and pulled them closer by the waist. As he stepped toward them, they stepped back. With his next step, he pivoted around, twirling Jare into the dance. They stifled a giggle, and followed his lead for a few more steps.
āRemind me which holodrama you got this from?ā They asked.
āGuess.ā
āOhhh, itās on the tip of my tongue⦠That cartoon one, what was it? The one with the were-beast?ā
āRadiant and the Rancor.ā
āRight.ā
āRight.ā Burner was still grinning, obviously proud of himself.
Footsteps in the corridor broke the spell. Jare leapt back out of Burnerās arms, and whirled around to face the intruder.
āGeneral Skywalker,ā Jare sputtered. They gathered their composure. āItās all yours,ā they said, gesturing to the now-blank blue glow of the holotable. āWe were just leaving.ā
Anakin raised an eyebrow as he approached. āAs you were, general.ā
Burner averted his gaze and hurried out of the room. Jare followed, but a firm hand on their arm prevented their escape. Fuck.
Jare expected Anakin to deliver some sort of admonishing lecture, or a withering citation of the Code. Instead, his intense stare was full of sympathy. Jare could feel something painful stir in the ForceāSkywalkerās presence was almost physically palpable, sending a wave of complex emotions over Jare, overpowering their own anxiety. No wonder Master Jinn thought he was the Jedi spoken of in the prophecy. He searched Jareās eyes for an uncomfortable moment. Jare remained quiet.
āBe careful,ā he said, then let go.
The words carried the weight of an unspoken understanding. Jare could sense his intentions clearly. It wasnāt a threatāit was a warning, and a deeply personal one at that. Master Skywalker no doubt sensed exactly what Jare had been feeling, but he wasnāt angry. He was afraid. Not of them, but for them. Jare wondered where that fear was coming from. They nodded their acknowledgement silently.
But as quickly as it began, the moment ended. Jare rushed out of the room after Burner, heart racing as fast as their thoughts. They thanked their lucky stars that theyād be departing shortly, and wouldnāt have to face Skywalker ever again. But somehow, they knew they wouldnāt be in trouble, not with him, anyway.
Whatever trouble Anakin sensed in their future was coming from somewhere else.
My favorite detail is that I gave him anisocoria, which is different sized pupils. Itās a clear indicator of a severe head injury and one Iāve never seen anyone do on TV. š„ŗ
Reference and musings on growing as an artist under the cut.
Five years ago. The angles on this scene were very difficult and I think back then I just couldnāt figure out how to get his face to show that appearance of laying up against something. His shell-shocked look was also tough to recreate.
I feel like I wasted my day even though I went to my pilates class and finished the lines on my friendās birthday present and got halfway done with my next art fight piece and itās only a quarter to five. Can somebody cure me
Wait I connected some dots. I only feel satisfied with my productivity when Iām in pain because my efforts only measure up to the bare minimum of my peersā productivity after Iāve pushed myself beyond a dangerous limit š and of course I was encouraged and demanded to do this, with severe consequences when I didnāt. I feel violent and sick with rage
