The Drug-Dose Gender Gap

I learned a lot from reading this short article. It never came to my attention how much of a difference drug side effects can be between male and female. I never knew that male and female react to drugs differently and also at different pace. And the reason behind it all was very Interesting to me. Also the fact that some medications are metabolized faster in male or female depending on what it is.

I had no idea that the fact that a women go through so many different body changes every month had an effect on the intake of drug and how much faster it may work for females than it would for male. But it makes so much sense.

It was also interesting to me that certain medication was not effective in men at all so they were not able to partake in clinical trials to see if the drug can be used.

Still trying to process for everything words but reading this article taught me a lot even though it wasn’t as long. It also made me think so that I may not take pills carelessly for when I may have pain or anything of that sort.

Reflection 5

How Doctors Take Women's Pain Less

Seriously

While reading this article I automatically thought about my favorite show Grey’s Anatomy. It was the episode When Dr Bailey the chief of surgery went to the emergency room of a different hospital than her own to state that she was having a heart attack. She told almost 3 different doctors that she was having a heart attack and all of them refused to believe her. She was telling them to take specific test so that she can prove that she was having the heart attacking but they also refused. She then called the chief of surgery for the cardiovascular ward to go to the hospital she was at to treat her. It was when Dr Bailey herself saved one of the patience of the hospital she went to the doctors believed she was having a heart attack. This was because when she finished performing CPR on the patience she fell out on the floor. The doctors then did the necessary test and found out she was having a heart attack. Clearly those doctors had no knowledge that symptoms for heart attack’s are different in male and female.

Back to the reading it is very hard for me to understand why physicians don’t take females pain as seriously like they would take males. Is it because females are classified and more “soft” and “fragile” than males are. Are the trying to imply that we are making the pain seem as if it’s really bad when it isn’t. I believe that this is very wrong and we should be taken more seriously!

Reflection #4

Our bodies or crimes

Through out history women never had much rights to do anything. It was a shock to me that they didn’t even have a right to do what they wanted to do with THEIR OWN bodies. Many people are strongly against abortion. And many people look at abortion like it is such a horrible thing. Many people like myself believe abortion up to a certain extent. Where people are able to get abortions if they were raped, through incest, and or health problems.

From reason this reading it brought to my attention how this specific topic has changed over the years. It made me emotional to see how women were treated when they chose to have an abortion because of the act of abortion was looked so negatively on. And women were looked bad upon for making this decision.

I also saw that it was mentioned that certain women were seen as good enough where some were looked at as the total opposite. In my opinion I believe that women should not be treated differently because of their race, sexuality, or class. Everyone should be treated equally.

It was also mentioned that women were restricted when she’s isolated economically, socially, and geographically. Those women also had a very difficult time living comfortably back them.

Lastly, it was shocking to me that men had saying in these issue when all of these topics have nothing to do with them. Especially the right to have an abortion. In my opinion I believe that men shouldn’t have a say in any of this because they will never experience this. They’ll never know how a women felt to lead her to make her decisions or what really brought her to making those decisions. Men in all honesty should stay in their lane.

Reflection 3

“Mapping the Margins: Intersectionality, Identity Politics, and Violence Against

Women of Color”

This reading was very interesting to me. It showed me that Intersectionality is real. And in my opinion it’s not a good thing. People should not be treated differently depending on what race gender and what other identity they see themselves as. I agree with Ms Crenshaw when she said that our liberatory objective should be to empty those categories of any social significance. It was also mentioned in the reading that women of color had a hard time getting into the battered women shelter because of their race and class domination which is very unfair. These women should be receiving help like every other women is receiving. What hurt me very much too in the reading when it was said that women of color were less likely to get their needs met then women who are racially privileged. Meaning that women of color wasn’t getting the help they need because they weren’t a specific race. This act is so unkind. Doing so would make women of color think beneath themselves. Thinking they’re worth less. Which isn’t true. Everyone in my eyes are equal and should be treated just like they are.

09/20/18 “Night of his Day”: The Social Construction of Gender. Judith Lorber

This reading to me was very interesting and taught me many important facts. It also made me look at this specific topics in many different ways. Also made my understanding of this topic so much clearer. What caught my eyes most in this reading was the part of the reading after the subtitle “For Individuals, Gender Means Sameness.” That title alone opened my eyes. In the little reading section that comes with that subtitle it mentioned something to me that I really never looked at in the point of view that is was mentioned in. When it said “Individuals are born sexed but not gendered, and they have to be taught to be masculine or feminine.” I agree 100% with that statement because from  young age we were “taught” what it should be like to be a female or a man. We were treated differently if we were a female or a male. I witness in my workplace where females were not allowed to do certain jobs the males were doing because we were t strong enough. Saw with my little cousins were the boys had to play with cars or legos, while the girls had to play with dolls and kitchen sets. What I also read that was interesting was the different things done to children from different societies from a young age so that they’ll know and understand their sex. Which in my opinion believe was uncalled for, unnecessary doings. In my opinion I believe that you shouldn’t limit children in doing what children should be doing at a young age because it would effect them while they’re aging. Reading from the “Gender as Process, Stratification, and Structure” portion of the reading he mentioned how males are ranked as if they are better than females no matter if they’re the same race or class. I agree with that because you can see the distinction in many different places. Especially work place. They’ll be men and women that are equal in education but you’ll see that the men get paid more just because they are a man. Which I find is very unfair. I don’t believe that men and women should be treated differently. We are all one and we all should be treated equally.

Reflection #1

Gender Education

I find this reading very interesting. In a way I like the idea of what the parents did and I that it meant a lot to because because they did so much to make sure their children had a clear understanding. I liked it because doing this gave their children the opportunity to make their own decisions when it comes to this topic. They gave them a broad understanding on it and left it up to them to make their choice. I also liked that they told them the differences between a male and a female is their anatomy and reproductive system. Which to me is true because like mentioned in class where discussed that males and females can do just about the same things. As long as you put your mind to it. Reason for me saying that it was important to the family because in the beginning of the reading it said that the parents changed specific characteristics on females and males In their children coloring book. Doing this alone had to take a lot of their time and the fact that they did that is very interesting to me. It just showed how important this was to them. I agree with the parents doing not only because it made their children make their own choices in this matter. Also because they educated their children very well on this topic at a very young age. So what they were taught in my opinion would stick with them forever so in the future when they grow old it would be very hard for them to fall for the stereotypes that is occurring. I really enjoyed reading this writing.
