so uh i didn’t do any replies on here and instead spent the entire night writing four drabble posts about angst and grief on the other blog. oops?

sorry for vanishing this week-end, i was at my parents’ house and couldn’t remember the login email for looker so i was on gumshoe instead (and i almost forgot my email to that too yay). 

i’ll try and get to some of the replies on here too but i’ll be dedicating most of my time to the ace attorney side tonight since today’s date basically corresponds to the second case of the first game and it’s important that we all not-celebrate it with angst.

since i’m not mutuals-only i’m more than happy to interact with anybody on @runniingonfaith as well (or to rephrase that please throw your muses at my other police son too) whether it’s related to today’s topic or not (i have a couple pokemon verses too if that’s what you prefer)

Rich huffed in his chair, folding his arms as he peered up towards his companion in a comical, light-hearted expression, “Ah, you have the knowledge of understanding what I have meant, my good friend! Please, do not fret, as it does not bother me a single bit, Mis–ah, Hawkie, I promise!” 

Arceus forbid, he really needed to work on that.

“Well, I am already seeing progress, so I am certain the habit will eventually evolve. I have faith in you, my friend.”

“So, Rich, are you busy right now? We could go and have some coffee together, if you are willing.”

It was Steven’s first day in Kalos after a few months in Unova. Though the former Champion had already spent some time in the region before, nevertheless he was still enthralled by the beauty of the place: the people, the cafés, the museums and old buildings that survived the centuries, not to mention the glorious sound of the Kalosian language itself. Enchanted once more by the everyday sights in the capital, Lumiose City, as he walked down its cobblestone streets, Steven didn’t notice the older man in the suit and trenchcoat until he bumped into him. “Oh! I’m so sorry! Are you alright, sir?”

“Ah, yes yes, nothing to worry about, Lo-- sir.” That was a close one. The odd familiarity of the voice seemed to catch him off-guard every time and he’d mistake people more often than he dared count.

“Ah! That face! You’re the Champion of Hoenn, Steven Stone, yes? Or, um, formely Champion, perhaps. I recall news that you had ‘passed the baton’, as it were. What brings you to Kalos, if I might ask?”

It was just his luck, honestly. Not a day at the lab went by without something going wrong. The professor was starting to think that he was cursed, not that he really believed in curses. Still, the facts were adding up. Some time ago, he’d started to study various Bug-type Pokémon, hoping to determine whether or not they might be able to Mega Evolve. Given their size, some of the smaller ones had… well, been misplaced. He’d all but forgotten about them until he’d come to work earlier in the week to find his lab overrun with newly hatched Joltik. 

Then there was the incident with the broken elevator, that time his newly completed essay on Mega Garchomp was burnt to a crisp by an over-excited Fennekin… you get the picture.

And now, here was he, trekking around Lumiose City in search of an adventurous little Chespin who had managed to slip out of the lab undetected. He wasn’t paying any attention to where he was walking, until he’d run SMACK into somebody. 

“Oh, pardon. That was my fault.” A pause. “You haven’t seen a Chespin running around by itself, have you?”

“Chespin?” he repeated, after the startled exchange of apologies for running into each other. “Those are, um, the sort of Sandshrew with the spiky green hats, yes?” Did the man know what Sandshrew were? If not he hoped the ‘green hats’ would give away the Pokémon he was picturing.

“Hmm... No, unfortunately, I have yet to run into one of those recently, be it alone or with someone else. Have you lost your companion? I’m a detective-- I could help you in your search should you require it?”

“It’s not like that! Towa City is a real city in Japan – that’s where I’m from! I just want to back home! So, can you please tell me where I am?”

“Japan? That is...very far.” As in, ‘different planet’ kind of far. Or ‘parallel universe’ kind of far. He wasn’t sure yet. 

“You are currently finding yourself in Sinnoh. ...Veilstone City, to be more precise. Which, I assure you, is very real as well.” He was almost sure that nobody in Japan had ever heard of Sinnoh, and there was probably nobody in Sinnoh who’d ever really heard of Japan either. Except him. Oh, and Brienne.

“How long have you been, um, ‘lost’ here? Do you know?”

“Ah, so nothing too exciting to report then? Well in any case, I suppose it is good that you managed to catch some time to enjoy the sights and relax. You deserve that once in a while, Mr. Busybody. So, if it’s nothing too confidential, where did you end up venturing to?”

“Have you ever heard of Alola? It’s like a smaller version of the Fairlands! And there’s all kinds of really fascinating Pokémon there that I’ve never seen before!”

“In fact, I can think of a bunch that you would definitely love, but instead of talking about them I’d rather surprise you.”

“True…I am sorry your superiors forget.” She understood how hard it could be. Either they forgot or they lacked someone who would have taken it. She lightly put her hand on his shoulder.

A big grin came to her face. “You do that and you might just get a kiss from me. Or at least make it so I’ll have to pay for yours next time.“

“I’m not convinced that you would find any joy in kissing a man likely old enough to be your father, but assuming we do get the chance to have a ‘next time’, I would definitely be grateful for the coffee invite.”

“I’m only twenty-three, and single, so I’m definitely not expecting  a child. I’m just a defense attorney who needs a day of relaxation.”

“AH! My apologies? You mentioned labor, so-- well, no matter, it was my misunderstanding.”

“Although I have to say that age is not an excluding factor. It is certainly wise to wait until older, should one ever wish to have a child, but-- well, unexpected events happen sometimes.”
