Never in her life had Lucy been more thankful that she’d befriend the elves than she was when she had to start skipping dinner at the Great Hall. No matter where she’d sit at her table, she’d either have to face a Slytherin or have her back to them –which one was worse she still hadn’t decided, but it made her lose her appetite either way. Now, instead, she’d pop into the kitchens just before a meal went out, grabbed a few veggies and a lemon tart, and went back out to find her own place, away from the drama and darting eyes of old friends, to eat.

Lucy was on her way to the Black Lake. She’d wanted to spend the first month of school swimming in it as much as she could before it closed but she was curious to see if it really was too cold for her to get a final dip in. 

She ate her tarts first while she walked, hair dancing around her in the chilling breeze as she followed the worn-in path from the castle to the beach when a rustling drove her attention from her destination. The forest was never silent, she knew that. There was always wind, birds and beasts looming, and the sound of Lucy’s lips smacking as she ate her dessert; paying no mind to any attention she would draw to herself to said birds and beasts by doing so. Instead, intuition had her following the rustling rather than running, tracing the source to an oak.

Before she could finish her tart and climb up after the noise, it –or part of it, as she soon figured– came after her instead. She let out a sharp squeal, throwing her tart to the side, and jumping out of the way of the fallen camera. It took her a moment to realize what it was. Turning it over with her foot she peered down at with a crooked brow until a flash of memories of Lyall with it came across her mind.

“Lyall,” she called out to another set of rustling, bending down to pick up the device, “I think it may be in need of mouth to mouth resuscitation.” She handed the camera over to the blonde as his feet hit the ground, a small smile spreading across cheeks with bits of lemon jelly dabbed on them, “I would offer a healing crystal to the situation but all I have are rose quartz today and they won’t help much.”

He heard her before he saw her, the unfamiliar squeal followed by the voice he knew well calling his name through the leaves as he plummeted to the ground in front of her. In spite of his fear over the potential damage done to his camera Lyall smiled a little, if there was someone that could always cheer him up it would have to be Lucy. He took his camera back from her gratefully, examining it for damages. Lyall sighed heavily at the discovery of the deep crack through the lens, it could either completely destroy the film within, or lead to some very interesting photographs.

“Not sure mouth to mouth will do too much to fix ‘er, worth a shot though hey?” Lyall said, his voice soft, a trace of sadness tinging his words. He pressed his lips firmly to the camera, a big smacking kiss. “Rose quartz any good for ankles? Think I landed a bit funny just now.” He looked down at his dirty feet with a smile and a shrug. He didn’t know much about healing crystals, but Lucy was a wealth of knowledge on the subject. 

“Anyway. I’m getting ahead of meself. Hello Lu.” He bent forward to offer his friend a quick kiss on the cheek. “Mm, lemon. You save any of those tarts for me?” He pointed his camera at her and snapped a quick photo of the crumbs across her face, completely unsure whether they would turn out alright or not. “What’re you doin’ out here? Admiring the sunset?

If there were two things Tom despised in this life, the first would have to be the past. Tom was not one to look back fondly on memories, and there was nothing worse than dwelling on all that he had now left behind. Looking to the future was everything, it was what propelled him forward through every single day – knowing that there will be more, climbing every step no matter how high, no matter what it took to get there. Although Tom could appreciate that one could learn from the mistakes of those before him, although he could appreciate that there was value in what history had to teach us, and although the history of magic was endlessly intriguing and far more interesting than muggle history – it was by far the least compelling class in his schedule. 

Tom had listened to Professor Binns’ lesson, for the most part, but it had been difficult with the whispering behind the wall distracting him. It was the fourth time this week that the snake had tried to speak to him during the day and instead of focusing on content that would probably appear in his exams, all Tom could think about was the Chamber and the fact that he still hadn’t found what his great ancestor intended for him to find – there had to be more than just the snake, surely. 

The class came to a close and Tom gathered his things quickly, if he could drop his books back to his dormitory before his next class, he could go to the library straight afterwards to do more research on the chamber before dinner. The other Slytherins around him were speaking rapidly amongst themselves about the class they’d just had and the amount of study that was piling up for the evening, Tom’s mind was elsewhere. He walked briskly, the hairs standing up on the back of his neck as his name was called by an unfortunately familiar voice. Tommy. He could have regurgitated his breakfast there and then. The second thing that Tom despised in this life, would have to be mudbloods.

Tom stopped dead in his tracks, the Slytherins flowing past him and Lyall stumbling right into his shoulder, dropping his books on Tom’s foot. If Tom wasn’t pissed off before, he sure was now. A look of complete and utter disgust was plastered all over his face. He watched as Lyall bent down to pick up the books, one of which was very obviously a muggle magazine (and it had fucking touched his freshly polished shoe). 

Tom stared directly ahead with his lip curled in revulsion and nose crinkled like he’d just smelt something incredibly bad. “Yes, I did.” He responded stiffly, then flicking his gaze to Lyall, the god damn mess of a boy, looking him up and down. “It must be frustrating, to be so incredibly stupid.” He said bitingly. 

He turned on his heel to face Lyall properly, the curl of his lip becoming almost a smirk – aware of the couple of Slytherins that had stopped to watch from just down the hall. “The assignment is fifteen inches on how muggles stole magic, and twentieth century solutions to purge them from society. You’ll have first hand experience to write from, should be a piece of cake. Then all you have to do is think about all the worst ways you could be tortured to death, and you’ll have your answer. Good luck.”

It was hard for Lyall to keep that smile plastered across his face when he faced such revulsion looking back at him. His lips quivered and and drooped as Tom refused to even look at him at first, as if Lyall were such an aberration he oughtn't even be acknowledged. Despite being taller than Tom, in that moment Lyall felt mere inches tall. It wasn’t right for another student to make him feel this way, but it happened, all too often. Lyall could usually try brush it off, smile and keep on going. But there was something about Tom, those piercing eyes that gave nothing away, the way his words wounded so deeply.

But Tom was right. It was frustrating being so incredibly stupid. To fail every class because he couldn’t retain the information being thrown at him from every direction so fast he couldn’t keep it. He just nodded meekly, wishing he could stand up for himself, but the words caught in his throat.

As Tom continued talking it felt like Lyall’s entire throat closed up, like he couldn’t breathe. Surely, surely Binns wasn’t so ignorant now that he was a ghost to set such insensitive and offensive assignments. He certainly wasn’t going to argue with Tom Riddle about it though. Not the prefect, the golden boy of fifth year. Not when there was a handful of his fellow Slytherins waiting for him half way down the corridor, smirks to match Tom’s. “Uhh...” Lyall stuttered, his mouth dry, head spinning.

Maybe it was the assignment. Maybe that’s why Tom’s eyes glinted with such mirth, because Lyall would have to research how awful his life should be, how awful he was.=. And yet... wasn’t Tom in the very same situation? Lyall struggled to remember a conversation from five years previously, surely, knowing Tom now, Lyall had been mistaken. He regretted even approaching Tom now, but it was too late.

“Uh. Um, thanks Tom. I-I know your friends are waiting for you, sorry, but whens it due again? Friday? Or next week?”

Lyall Lupin // Xaldin Lovegood // Head canons

There was something about Xaldin Lyall always found so fascinating, he was so unique, doing his own thing with absolutely no regard for social conventions. A year apart and from different houses Lyall had few chances to talk to the older boy he admired so greatly from a far. It wasn’t until Lyall’s third year he finally found himself within close proximity to Xaldin. He had just signed up to the Art Club and was happily painting bright abstracts, a glance to the canvas to his left, a highly detailed and anatomically correct male nude. This only fueled Lyall’s fascination for Xaldin.

Lyall asked Xaldin to model for him, “Not, um, not like the paintings you do, I just mean like, like, normal photographs, y’know.” Behind his camera Lyall felt a lot more comfortable and confident, he found it easier to hold a conversation, and soon it flowed freely between the two rather odd boys who found a kindred spirit in the other. It didn’t take long for Lyall to consider Xaldin his best friend.

In Lyall’s fourth year the pair spent a day in Hogsmeade, secretly buying make up after being inspired by one of the Vogue magazines sent to Lyall by his older sister. Upon their return to Hogwarts Xaldin led Lyall to a secret room he had discovered on the seventh floor, a room filled with large closets filled endlessly with dresses, mirrors over tables overflowing with make up and perfumes, their scents intoxicating. The pair dubbed the room ‘Backstage’ it became their safe space to be their true selves away from the judgmental eyes of their peers. 

Xaldin helps Lyall with his homework, he is the only person that seems to know how to explain things in a way Lyall can understand. He turns lessons into fabulous stories or adventure and excitement. He brings chocolates and fresh figs to their study dates and teases Lyall with them until he successfully answers all his questions and performs his spells to a level Xaldin deems appropriate. Lyall feels a lot of guilt, he has nothing to offer in return and at times feels quite inadequate compared to his friend.

Lyall is completely in love with Xaldin, but it is something they are both utterly oblivious to. Xaldin, because the idea has never crossed his mind and doesn’t see the longing looks Lyall is sending his way. Lyall, because he is clueless as to what the feelings his friend stirs up inside him mean, so he ignores them and assumes it’s just digestion or something.

Lyall Lupin and Thorley Greengrass Headcanon(s)

1. Lyall brings photographs to their study sessions each time and tells artful stories about each one, secretly trying to entice Thorley to model for him. Thorley hates to admit it, but he is impressed with Lyall’s photography skills and is flattered by the attention.  

2. The main reason Thorley denies to be taken a picture of is his own insecurities about looking awkward and not knowing what to do, the idea of being out of his comfort zone freaks him out. 

3. The day that Thorley finally agreed to be taken a picture of was a beautiful snow covered winter day. They had walked out to the old oak tree where they had first met and Lyall convinced Thorley to climb the tree with him. The picture was stunning. Thorley, surrounded by snow covered dead branches, looking as if his limbs were growing out of the tree like a mystical fae creature being born; the frozen lake in the far background mixing with the sky creating the feeling of flying.

Pure irritation flowed out like tangible waves from Thorley Greengrass as he stomped across the grounds with his wand in his upright palm pointed east towards wherever the hell Lyall was. Already furious that he had to tutor a mudblood in History of Magic at the request/order of his head of house, he now had to go track the other down because he never showed up for the session at all. Honestly, why should he even care? He had firmly decided that he no longer cared about staying in the good graces of the Ravenclaw head of house because he was going to change the world. What need was there for flattery and obedience to someone that he was never going to see once he left the school next semester. Thorley knew why he was currently stomping through the grass near the Black Lake, it was because a mudblood stood him up. Never one to feel such strong emotions such as rage, Thorley could safely say that this was one of the few times in his life where he was outright angry. 

Reaching an old oak tree, Thorley paused in confusion. The wand showed that this was where the Hufflepuff kid was so where was- a camera fell right in front of him soon followed by a mess of orange and yellow. Startled, Thorley almost fell over in surprise. Catching himself at the last moment, his irritation spiked further and a fire burned in his ice cold blue eyes. Had the other actually been climbing the tree? How plebeian, how disgraceful, how purely and disgustingly muggle. Clenching his fists tightly, wand still in one hand, a curse threaten to leave his lips as his whole body was snapped with tension ready to break loose. “Lupin.” Thorley snarled. “You were supposed to meet me for tutoring before dinner.”  

Lyall barely registered the older boys presence at the base of the tree, and the furious tone of his voice sailed right over Lyall’s head. There was one thing on his mind and one thing only, the safety of his precious camera. The thick pile of leaves seemed to have broken the fall, a crack ran through the body of the camera but everything else seemed fine. The film, at least, was still safely encased, no chance light had leaked in and destroyed his hard work. He allowed himself to breathe, only realising when the fresh evening air filled his lungs that he had been holding his breath as his nerves got the better of him.

Finally he turned his attention to Thorley, an intimidating guy to be sure. “Thorley hey...” He said with a slightly nervous lopsided grin. God, he looked furious, what was he so mad about again? Lyall brushed stray leaves from his hair and watched them flutter to the ground, all too aware Thorley was waiting for a response. “I was? Oh! I was!” Lyall remembered, vaguely, the professors setting up tutoring sessions in the hopes it would help him pass his exams or complete just one homework assignment at the very least. “Sorry Thor, really I am, it just slipped right outta my mind when I saw how beautiful the sunset was t’night.” 

He offered an apologetic smile, noticing how photogenic the other boy looked in the soft dusk light. Mysterious and brooding, the perfect subject. “Can we still study or is it too late for you now? I just needa grab my books from the dorm, wanna walk with me? We can grab some snacks from the kitchen while we are down there.” Talk loudly, smile, be friendly, wipe that angry scowl from Thorley’s face.

“Hey, d’ya mind if I snap a quick photograph of you? I needa make sure my camera isn’t broke.” Lyall added hopefully.

History of Magic class Monday, 26 October 1942 @t-riddle

The first lesson of the week was surprisingly engrossing for Lyall, far more so than History of Magic had any right to be. It was perhaps the fact he paid absolutely no attention to the old ghost droning on at the front of the class. For the entire hour Lyall had been completely absorbed by the National Geographic magazine tucked between the pages of his text book. He stroked the photographs almost reverently as he studied each one closely, amazed by the composition, blown away by the subjects, beautiful landscapes, fascinating creatures. Lyall hoped one day to be able to take photographs of such caliber, or at least have the chance to visit all the far flung places the magazine covered.

Lyall had been so wrapped up in his reading he barely registered the class had ended. He hurried out after the rest of his fellow Hufflepuffs and Slytherins, capturing snatches of conversation.

“He wants us to write 15 inches on...”

“The war between...”

“This is definitely going to be in our OWLs...”

He let out an exasperated sigh, Lyall had no idea of the homework. Again. He would have no chance of passing his OWLs if he couldn’t even complete a simple homework assignment. Lyall scanned the quickly thinning crowd of students moving on to their next classes, hoping to find someone with sufficient notes to help him.

“Tom! Hey, Tommy!” Lyall called, rushing to catch up with his old friend. Shoulders bumped, Lyall dropped his magazine and textbook on Tom’s shoes, highly polished next to Lyall’s own scuffed pair. “Sorry, sorry.” He quickly apologised, a slight lisp in his soft voice as he bent to pick his books up. “Tom, didya happen to catch the homework assignment?” He asked with an earnest smile. “I really can’t afford to miss another one.”

Early Evening Sunday, 25 October 1942 OPEN STARTER

He had been on his way to dinner when he glanced out the window, all thoughts of food dissipated at the breath taking sight of the sun setting over the Lake. Double checking he had sufficient film in the camera slung around his neck (and a quick pat to his coat pocket to ensure the extra reel was still there) Lyall hurried past the Great Hall to the front doors instead. 

The air was crisp, the ground hard and cold under Lyall’s bare feet. He didn’t even contemplate running back to the Hufflepuff dorms to hunt for a pair of shoes, there was no time. The sun was sinking quickly over the horizon as Lyall scanned the grounds for a perfect vantage point. The camera was already at his eye, pressing his glasses against the bridge of his nose.

That tree, the ancient oak, it’s Autumnal leaves aflame in the glow. Lyall snapped quickly. It was good, but it could be better, he knew it could. All too aware of the time ticking by far faster than it ought to be Lyall hastily scrambled up the tree, barely giving his feet a chance to find purchase before hoisting himself up ever higher.

It was perfect. The sun casting it’s magnificent glow across the forest trees. The brilliant reds and oranges of the leaves in turn lighting up the lake. Lyall edged across his branch, framing his shots quickly as he filled the reel. The incandescent surface of the lake broke, a long tentacle lazily weaving through the air. Almost as if the squid were waving to Lyall, posing for a photograph. A gasp slipped from his grinning lips and Lyall leaned forward to take another picture his hands sweating with excitement. 

Too excited. The camera slipped from his grasp and tumbled through the branches to the ground below. Racing heart, a muttered curse, Lyall fumbled for his wand, trying in vain to remember the charm that would slow the cameras fall. A dull thud reached his ears and Lyall bit back tears as he hurried back down to solid ground, a flurry of blond curls, falling flowers and orange leaves.

✿ for a HAPPINESS headcanon

Lyall lives for happiness, for seeking pleasure in all it’s forms. But it is lifes smallest luxuries that bring Lyall his greatest happiness. It is Autumn on the farm, the air crisp and cold. It is the fig tree down the bottom of the valley, discovered when Lyall was four - his first bite of heaven. It is climbing higher and higher each year as his body and the tree grow stronger. It is the swollen purple fruits splitting out the sides. It is gorging himself on his ambrosia, the tell tale sign of minuscule seeds stuck between his teeth when he smiles.

wanted connections/plots

I miss the mountains        Someone who truly understands Lyall’s wanderlust, who shares his need to explore the world. He needs someone with the same appreciation for the beauty in the universe. Together they can explore as deep into the forbidden forest as they dare, spend Hogsmeade weekends travelling as far out of the town limits before they need to return to school. Someone who has grand plans for their future and can share Lyall’s fantasies of seeing the world. 

Smile for the camera     Lyall needs a muse. Somebody he photographs more than anyone else, with a beauty Lyall finds irresistible. Their relationship can be romantic or platonic. It just needs to be someone that can set a spark alight in Lyall. It could be quite a volatile relationship, with Lyall treating them more like an object than a person.

Brains to my beauty      Lyall isn’t traditionally intelligent. He needs someone to help him with school work and keep him from getting distracted when doing his homework. Lyall is brimming with creative ideas, but he needs help with the technicalities so that he can bring them to life.

Young, wild and free     A like minded free spirit who encourages the more questionable ideas Lyall comes up with. Or who comes to him with their own, knowing he will never say no to adventure. This person could be a bad influence on Lyall or a positive one, depending on the adventures we come up with for them.

The hurt      Lyall loves people, but he often doesn’t think about how his actions and words affect others. This could be someone Lyall offended at any point in their past who is yet to forgive him. They could also be a past lover who felt hurt when Lyall grew bored and moved onto the next adventure.

You’re not worthy      Lyall isn’t quiet about his blood status and feels no shame in it. In fact he is proud as he gets the best of both worlds. Of course, not everyone feels the same way. There could be a pureblood or two who sees him as so far below him, and will remind him at any given opportunity. 

And another thing…      Similar to the one above, someone hating Lyall for his carefree and incredibly weird spirit. A fellow student who feels uncomfortable seeing Lyall without shoes, his toenails painted a vibrant hue, flowers tucked behind his ears and occasionally, a dress instead of trousers. This person would probably have very strict and traditional values and feels disgusted by the fact that Lyall refuses to adhere to societal expectations.

Say cheese.      Lyall’s family makes cheese on their small farm. Along with her fortnightly letters, Lyall’s mother always includes a selection of cheeses. I’d love someone for him to share it with, Lyall and a friend or two having decadent midnight cheese platters. It would be extra fun if they had absolutely nothing in common and come together over a shared love of cheese and, optionally, cheesy jokes.

An interview with Lyall Lupin

What is your real, birth name? What name do you use?   Lyall Lloyd Lupin... don’t know what my parents were thinking really. I never use Lloyd, it’s just Lyall Lupin.

Do you have a nickname? What is it, and where did you get it?   Mostly people just call me Ly... I think that’s pretty self explanatory, right?  What do you look like?    What kinda weird question is this, you’re looking right at me aren’t you? What? The way I see myself? Uh. I’m pretty tall, I think lanky is the word I’m looking for. My hair looks like it was once blonde and I forgot to wash it. Come to think of it, I haven’t washed it in a while. It’s long but not long enough yet. My eyes are blue. I’ve got a bit of facial hair now. Not much though. How do you dress most of the time?   Well, most of the time I have to wear my school robes. They are rather boring. The professors make me wear shoes, which is annoying. But, they are long enough and cover up enough that I don’t have to wear underpants, so I guess it’s a fair trade off. How do you "dress up?"   Depends on the occasion, doesn’t it? I’ve got a suit floating about somewhere, not all that fond of wearing it though, very restrictive. I like dressing up in nice skirts, pretty silk ones are my favourite, but they are ridiculously expensive. I have a very nice fur coat for when it’s cold. If I’m dressing up I like doing my make up too, I’ve gotten pretty good at it too. Jewellery too, I really like to pile my jewellery on. I like the way it sparkles and clinks together. And always a flower crown, can’t go out without one of those. How do you "dress down?"   When I have nowhere to be I will wear precisely nothing. Old pairs of trousers, or loose skirts. Tshirts or vests or jumpers if it gets cold. If I’m not trying to look good I probably look rather terrible. What do you wear when you go to sleep?   I hate to sound like a scratched record, but once again, precisely nothing. Pajamas ride up all over the place and are so incredibly uncomfortable. I can’t sleep if I am wearing anything. In your opinion, what is your best feature?   I really don’t know. Ask Xaldin or someone. Oh, my opinion? I don’t know. I guess I rather like my smile. What's your real birth date?   June 10, ‘26 Where do you live? Describe it:    I guess I live in two places, d’ya wanna hear about them both? Okay my room at school is always a bit of a mess. My beds four poster, I’m not sure if I’m allowed to but I’ve been practicing my stitching all over my curtains, so they are decorated with all sorts of fabric scraps and funny looking flowers. All the walls ‘round my bed are covered in photographs I’ve taken. I’m greedy and always keep my favourites. I’ve got a few jugs of flowers by my bed but I don’t change ‘em as much as I should. My other house is the farm. The farm is big, it’s a dairy farm, so lots of cows and cow sheds and stuff. The house is small and it really needs fixing up. The roof of my bedroom was leaking last time I went home but I patched it up. My bedroom at home is also covered in lots of photos, I’m actually running out of room on the walls their. Round the skirting it all these pictures me and my sister used to draw. Oh and mam would always measure my height on my bedroom door... even now she makes me do it every summer I’m home. Do you own a car? Describe it.   No I don’t have a car. I’ve got a motorcycle though. I’m not sure if I own it technically. It’s my dads. But it was all rusting in the shed when I found it two years ago. He hadn’t rode it since Finch was born. So I think it’s mine. It’s a Triumph 6/1. I’m not sure what the 6/1 means. It rides like an absolute beast. I love it. What is your most prized possession? Why do you value it so much?   My cameras. Don’t even ask me to choose a favourite between ‘em all. I love being able to capture all these memories and moments on film. It’s really exciting. My camera feel like an extension of myself, half the time things only look normal through a lens for me. I get to know people so much better when I photograph them. You see a different side to people. 

What one word best describes you?    I dunno... Lyall, I guess. My name just about sums me up I think. What is your family like?   My family are really brilliant. We all get along just great, they are funny and creative and accepting. They accepted my differences when they found out I’m a wizard. Wasn’t even too shocked. They are work far too hard. ‘Specially mam. She works on the farm all day, and raises the kids and runs the house all on her own. I miss them a lot. Who is your father, and what is he like?   Conall Lupin. He’s a bit wild. Travelled ‘round a lot and finally settled down in Wales when he met mam. Always doing weird things like pulling coins out from our ears, said it was magic, if you’d believe it! Never really took to farm life I don’t think. He’s in the war now. Probably getting a kick out of the excitement if you ask me. I worry though, in almost every letter mam sends she tells me about another neighbour dying or going missing. I hope it doesn’t happen to him. Who is your mother, and what is she like?   Nerys Broderick. She grew up on this farm, took it over when she married dad. She’s the best cook in the world I think. She’s gentle but... she means business. All the time. When mam says do something it gets done. Even dad’d listen to her when she gets serious. I’m not too sure if she ever sleeps, she is always so busy. Never stops smiling though, even when she is mad as all hell she will still find a reason to smile and laugh. What is your parents marriage like?    They’d row like cats and dogs at least once a week. Dad’d smash plates and storm off in a huff. Mam’d laugh, then follow him, then they’d come back holding hands and laughing, usually with bits of hay stuck in their hair. I never really got that, maybe they went out to the barn and had a hay fight until they made up. They love each other though, despite the rows and how different they are. It is quite lovely. Mam worries herself sick about dad though she will never admit it. What are your siblings names? What are they like?   Rhian is the oldest. She’s 18 and I’m rather fond of her. We always got along really well growing up. Now she sends me Vogue magazines, and I send her Witch Weekly. It’s a good trade if you ask me. Aidan and Imogen are twins. They are 11 now. Immy cried when she didn’t get a Hogwarts letter, and laughed at Aidan for not getting one too. She bullies him a fair bit, but will have a fit if any of us so much as tease him. She takes great pride in being the older twin. Aidan is much quieter than her, maybe the quietest of our whole family, he reads a lot. Finch is the baby, well not anymore I guess, he’s six now. Really enjoys being out of the farm, he is already milking cows even though he can barely reach the udders. I think everyone is keeping a close eye on him, I was about his age when I started showing signs of my magic. I kinda hope he does follow in my footsteps, it’d be real nice to be able to share this with someone in my family. How old were you when you went on your first date?    Well this is a bit embarrassing, but I’ve never actually been on a date. I might be the only one in my year who hasn’t. Wanna know something funny? I was supposed to go on a date last weekend, but obviously couldn’t do that. We will try again though, so I will be sixteen when I go on my first date. What annoys you more than anything else?   More than anything? Gosh. Probably people who always correct my grammar. All the time. It’s so silly, if people can understand what I’m saying, what does it matter how the words come out? What would be the perfect gift for you?   Unlimited reels of film. Colour film. A video camera. A boat or a plane to travel the world. All that would be perfect. What's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen?   Thing, not person? Are you sure I can’t choose a person? Okay. Backstage. It’s beautiful, always. And that’s all I can say. What time of day is your favorite?   The hour leading up to sunrise, and sunrise itself. The sky looks beautiful and all the colours are just right. The air is always so still, it’s the only time I really feel calm.  What kind of weather is your favorite?   I love storms. Lots of thunder and lightning. I used to always run outside in thunder storms and jump in the puddles and try take photographs of the lightning.    What is your favorite food? What is your least favorite food?    Figs, fresh figs. They are juicy and sweet and the seeds feel like they are popping when you bite into them. It’s incredible. I also really love cheese. Like, a lot. D’ya know what is really good, figs and goats cheese. But you’ve gotta drizzle it in honey too. Honest! Least favourite. I don’t much like potatoes, unless they are roasted. They just taste so bland. And porridge, oh I hate porridge, it’s like eating flavourless mud. What's the worst thing that can be done to another person? Why?   Definitely killing them. What could be worse than that? Or maybe killing someone they love, right in front of them. Death is so final, once you are dead you can’t live anymore, y’know? And since life is the best thing, death must be the worst.

What's the worst thing you could actually do to someone you hated?    Me, personally? I’m not sure if I have ever hated someone. I dunno. I don’t like this question, do I have to answer it? Uh. I ‘spose I could poison someone, not enough to kill them! Just to make them a bit sick. Maybe? I dunno. I don’t like thinking about this.

Is it okay for you to cry? When was the last time you cried?   Yeah, ‘course. Sometimes you just gotta cry. Last time I cried? Not long ago actually. I’m not saying why. It’s personal.    What do you do when you are bored?    Develop photographs. I take ‘em faster than I can develop ‘em so I always have rolls and rolls waiting to be developed. It’s a good way to spend a few hours and I always entertain myself looking back over the pictures. It’s funny how much stuff I forget until I am looking right at it again. Or sometimes I like to put on make up, just try out new stuff, make myself look pretty. It’s good to practice as much as I can. Then sometimes I take photographs of it. Then go develop them.
