Wildstar Accelerated - A Fate RPG Hack
Nexus… legendary planet of the Eldan. A world of mystery, danger, excitement, and adventure. Thought to be lost for thousands of years, the rediscovery of Nexus has sparked a galactic gold rush, as everyone tries to stake their claim on the fabled frontier world.
For the mighty galactic empire of the Dominion, Nexus represents the reclamation of their divine legacy.
For the disenfranchised Exiles, Nexus represents their last shot at survival… and a chance to finally have a home.
But Nexus hides terrible secrets beyond its forgotten shores, and its explorers may soon find themselves embroiled in a saga that will determine the fate of the very fabric of reality!
Pretty high stakes, eh cupcake?
Wildstar Accelerated is a tabletop roleplaying game set in the universe of Carbine Studio’s MMORPG. It’s based on the frame work of Evil Hat’s Fate Accelerated; if you’re familiar with the rules of that, then you already know how to play.
If not, you can check out their Official SRD. This guide assumes you’ll have access to it. Rules in Wildstar Accelerated are identical to those in Fate Accelerated unless otherwise stated.
Wildstar Accelerated is a rules light, heavily story based game. There are no strict classes or levels, and characters can be made with relative ease. I personally found it to be a perfect fit for Wildstar’s unique brand of pulpy sci-fi action.
The one weird thing you’ll need to actually play this game is a set of Fate Dice. These are a special kind of six-sided dice that are marked on two sides with a plus symbol [+], two sides with a minus symbol [-], and two sides that are blank [ ]. If you’re playing in person, these dice are available at any hobby store (or can be made from normal dice with creative use of a marker).
If you’re playing online, Roll20 and Rolz.org both support the use of Fudge Dice.

Falfarrin’s forever-unfinished skyplot on Wildstar – an ancient derelict treasure ship-turned-pirate cruiser. I took a lot of inspiration from Captain Harlock and wanted to capture the aesthetic of a classically extragavant ghost ship, with a sci-fi flair. There’s at least a hundred more screenshots, but I think these are my favourites. RIP Wildstar D:
Don’t recognize these screenshots? I don’t blame you. Maybe they even seem a little creepy, since they’re utterly devoid of life. Well, that’s because they all come from Dreadmoor, one of the game’s unfinished zones. This particular one can be found south of Illium and Auroria, and is absolutely huge. I heard some people talk about how it was meant to be an alternate levelling zone, maybe an alternative to Whitevale? I noticed some Exile areas that seemed a little too large to just be areas to fight mobs in…
The first chunk of Dreadmoor is mostly a boggy area, with hazy skies and sickly-looking grass. Like the Chua’s fault. There’s lots of water running through the zone, which eventually leads to more lush areas, though the sun never seems to shine brightly. There’s tons of Nexus natives and Eldan ruins in the zone, and even a Protostar area. There’s lots of stuff that looks like it was recycled to and from other zones, so it begs the question of how far along was development before the whole place was scrapped? It’s mostly done, with some models missing pieces, some geometry that doesn’t quite connect, and a few areas with awkward texture, but for the most part, the aesthetics of the zone are about 95% done. Wonder why they got rid of it?
Even though there’s no NPCs, no music, no map, and no lore, it’s not too tough to figure out what the areas around the zone were meant to be, and some areas are even named on the map. Starting in Illium, you run into a bunch of Chua communes doing what they do best: making science and destroying the environment. There’s a Pell encampment not too far from there, perhaps they would strike against the Chua? From there, you’d run into some Terminites and Moodies before continuing into the rest of the zone There’s tons of screenshots, so I’ll put them under a cut before explaining what I think the intent was.

Couldn't play yesterday because of school and my mother's birthday.
I only became brave enough to go to art school because of your commissions, guys. And specifically thanks to @thefusspot 's encouragement.
Iustus and Loony will always be two of the most important OCs in my life.
Wildstar is and always will be MY game. And this game's community will always be the best I've ever had the privilege to be a part of.
Total annihilation. How unfortunate.

Rescuing WildStar with The MADE
I reached out to the fantastic video game museum earlier today and received a wonderfully prompt reply. Here was my letter:
And this was Andy Handy’s response:
As far as responses go, I think this is about as positive as I could have possibly hoped for. We now know a few things!
1. The museum will reach out to NCSoft regarding NCSoft transferring the server code to them.
2. As per Mr. Handy’s advice, it may be best for us to double-down on our efforts for this after November 28th, though I can’t imagine it hurts to also try to contact them now, to let our intentions be known.
3. It would be super extra helpful if we could find someone who can write in Korean to help us draft a letter to NCSoft headquarters!
There is currently a thread on the official WildStar forums regarding the Massively OP article and The MADE’s willingness to host server code of defunct games. I’ve posted my update there. I encourage everyone else who sees this tumblr post to please also contribute their thoughts in that thread! I know my reach is not far, so I’d really appreciate reblogs if anyone could spare them! Maybe someone will see this who can help with the above points. :)
And if anyone has any thanks, thoughts, etc they would like to convey to Mr. Handy, just let me know and I’ll pass them along in the e-mail chain we’ve started!
The reason we should wait til after the closure to really put effort into this may be because after that point NCSoft won’t care as much what happens to the game. It’s no longer their problem. It’s also probably easier to do stuff with the server code if the servers aren’t running.
Still it doesn’t hurt to circulate this information now.
ooc; I made Perseus Ford in 2014 when I was in a terrible place in my real life. My sister invited me to Wildstar earlier that year as my first foray into MMO RP, and by the tail end of the year I had fallen in love with the game’s lore. Perseus as a character arrived to me fully formed; I knew so much of him straight from the start in a way that has rarely happened to me creatively.
He was a very flawed man. A lowborn who believed he was lesser than others and strove to prove himself despite that, always hoping for some proof that he was worth something in a world where he thought he was meant only to serve others. A Legion Captain, often cruel to his empire’s enemies, a man who wanted to be more than he was but, thanks to the oppressive regime he lived in, hadn’t learned how to be a good person yet. He was highly neurodivergent with many years of his 20s lost because of crippling depression and an anxiety break that led to him needing outpatient programs to recover. A main question he asked himself was if he could live a happy life, because he didn’t see a way to recover all that lost time and all of his past regrets.
In many ways, he was different from me. In many ways, he was autobiographical. Those years lost, that depression, those feelings he would never be whole again and would forever be broken unless he surrendered himself into his work, they were partially mine, too. While playing him I was struggling so very much even with the help of my doctors; many of you saw the posts I made here about my more severe struggles back in the first year. I was asking a question while exploring his story. Can some people be happy. I was in such a rough place, I wasn’t sure.
But now he is. He’s so very, very happy. He’s made so many friends, grown so much as a person, became someone who can be proud of himself and who has learned how to accept his past while also not forgetting it. Perseus has found love, a boyfriend he cherishes and their pet dog, and he’s learned from every single person he’s encountered along the way. Friends he loved who eventually left. People who he parted ways with fondly and with mixed emotions alike. Epic adventures and stories beyond anything I could have imagined. Every single person he met has impacted him so very much. And now, he’s undergoing so many more adventures than I ever thought possible.
And me. I’m in a really good place, too. Wildstar was what I needed back then. It helped me through accepting my own neurodivergence, through the unexpected death of my father. It helped me realize all the ways I could improve and I’ve left it a better person. Sometimes I think back on the past in WSRP and wish I’d have done things differently; I feel like I started the game as such a child. And sometimes I know that’s merely been part of what’s made this all so special. I’ve met so many wonderful, amazing friends in Wildstar. I’ve been forever changed by this. I didn’t expect that when I first found an MMO RP home. So thank you, everyone. And I appreciate and care about every single person who has crossed my path during these past four years. Even those who have moved on to other games, I still sometimes think back on our adventures and how much fun Perseus has with your characters.
Perseus still has so much to do. He has so many adventures he needs to undergo. So I will be playing him for a very long time to come.
Thank you everyone for helping me have such an amazing experience with this game.
This was the pic I was working on in an art stream when the news was dropped that Wildstar was coming to an end. I think that means I need to work extra hard on it to make it the best it can be.
I had never heard of Wildstar until it went free to play and my Tumblr feed became saturated with it. Curious, I looked up the races you could play; and when I saw I could be a pink kitty dude I said “Fuck yeah, sign me the hell up.”
Wildstar has been the most fulfilling, the most creative and the most fun community I have ever had the pleasure of participating in online. Zero by far is the most fleshed out and developed character I have ever created, and I was instantly drawn in and immersed in his world from day one. Hands down, Wildstar’s housing system is the most amazing thing I have witnessed in a game, and I think I’m the most sad that we will be losing so many wonderful creations.
Who would have thought an online game would have had such a powerful impact on me? It drove me draw every day, to open up O.C. commissions, to develop my writing skills, and I met so many amazing people; one of whom I consider to be my very best friend. I honestly feel I’m a better person now for the time I spent with you all in that game. Thank you everyone who’s interacted with the Pinkflea, or even just commissioned me to draw your fantastic characters, it’s been such a crazy and fun ride.
Zero isn’t going anywhere. I think it’s plain to see I’m very attached to him; he’s become a sort of mascot for me.
He will live on in my art, and in text rp on Discord or wherever. He’s a character I think that will pop up in other games, exploring new universes with me, and I’m excited for all our future adventures together.
