Children Read To Shelter Cats To Soothe Them
(Photos byĀ Animal Rescue League Of Berks County. You can follow them onĀ Facebook.)
Also good for the kids. They encourage having slow readers read to the family pets. A dog will listen to a kid read a whole book one damn sssyl-laāā-ble at a time, and it will never get frustrated, or correct their pronunciation, or start playing Angry Bird because it canāt stand listening to the slowness any more. The dog will look at the kid approvingly, because, human. Human is talking. Human is interacting.
So this is a great win-win.
Iāve seen this used with great effects with a few kids I used to mentor. They had stammering or reading issues, brought in a dog and within an hour, they were completely relaxed.
Leo and Sophia (the therapy dogs) just laid there and loved every second. Thought those kids hung the moon, and the feeling was mutual.

Women have been a leading force in sanitation strikes, calling for equal treatment and job security. This particular service industry has been the focus of multiple feminist manifestos and employment goals. Women fought long and hard to gain the right to work in sanitation, and theyāre continuing that effort to open up the field more. This issue is so big that Parks and Rec even made an episode about it.Ā
Female sewer workers have repeatedly sued the DEP for unfair treatment, seeking to open up the industry and gain equal status with their male peers. Sewer work is often targeted for its biased hiring practices. Hundreds of female candidates fight for limited available positions, but most are turned away, despite having the necessary experience and skills. Feminist workers recognize that these women are willing and able to do the work, but arenāt getting the opportunity to gain employment here.Ā
Historically, coal mining is one of the most highly targeted careers for gender bias. Women have been petitioning for the opportunity to mine safelyĀ since the Industrial Revolution. This is actually one of the primary and best studied examples of women fighting to enter traditionally male fields. Lots of women, who both succeeded in the mines and didnāt, continue to petition for increased access to this field.Ā
And yeah, women want white collar jobs too. Go figure - A diverse population of women, with different abilities, interests and levels of education, are all fighting for the right to seek diverse forms of employment. Fighting for equality in one sphere doesnāt mean that weāve forgotten about the others.Ā
Just because you arenāt paying attention to the feminist movement doesnāt mean that the feminist movement is nonexistent.Ā
Also, if you care so much about men in those fields, raise awareness of the fact that their work is under-appreciated instead of blaming feminism for everything.
Last week, a barrier that cotained toxic fluids broke in Brazil taking these fluids to one of the most important rivers we have here (Rio Doce). It formed a toxic mud and took over cities nearby, destroying them and killing people. This mud contains metals such as mercury, lead, barium, copper, among others. Itās said there is mud enough to fulfill 20 thousand olympic pools. This river is now officially dead, forever. The whole ecosystem of the area is destroyed. Animals are dead and some species might be extint. The mud keeps going through the riverās course and itās said itās gonna get to the seacost, also destroying that area. Another barrier is starting to break and it is 5 times bigger than the first one, which means the damage will be bigger. Cities nearby, such as Governador Valadares, ran out of water system. Mariana, another city, is also going through a hard time. Other cities are said to be destroyed forever. The biggest problem of all is that Brazilian media wonāt talk about it. This huge ambiental crime is under Valeās responsability. Vale is a multinational private mining corporation and they have a huge power over media. Regular brazilian citizenships have no idea of how huge the situation is, as the media makes it seem like it was just a little accident. People are dying, people are suffering, a whole ecossystem is dead. This is the largest ambiental accident in the history of Brazil. We need help to show the world what our media donāt want our people to know.
Guys, we need help. Please, reblog.Ā
So I looked this up, and this is an actual thing.

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/nov/13/brazils-slow-motion-environmental-catastrophe-unfolds Hereās an article in English about it. Itās headed toward the Atlantic; this kind of disaster is a nightmare for the people in its way.
An entire town was wiped away with the mud, media says itād take at least ā30 yearsā for ecosystem to start healing but tbh itās not gonna happen so soon
