“Oh I don’t know. Sounds like an idiot to me.” She teased, dropping down heavily next to the blond. “Hello cutie. I saw you here and thought I would come keep you company but clearly your work is doing that for you.” Lulu joked to her friend.

Lorcan laughed, “Trust me, you are much better company,” He replied, running a hand through his hair, “There’s far too much work involved in this department.”

“I was dropping off some paperwork because I told someone I was heading up this way. Looks like you have more than enough to get on with though.” Theo spoke, almost a little apologetically as he set the files down. “At least I can say they have nothing to do with me other than me being the unfortunate messenger.”

“Is it paperwork for me? Or just someone in the department?” Lorcan asked, trying not to show the sudden overwhelming feeling that washed over him, “To be honest, I would prefer it if it were from you. I wasn’t expecting anything.

“You don’t happen to have an aspirin do you?” Pepper asked rather groggily. “Went a little overboard at the party and now I’m close to seeing stars,” she added with a weak laugh. “Sorry– didn’t realize you were working. I can ask someone else,” she then said as she noticed the papers in front of him.

“Aspirin? No, I’m sorry,” Lorcan said after a moment of thought, “Oh no, hold on! There might be some in my desk. Let me check,” He said, opening the bottom drawer. He eventually found a packet and held it out, “Take all of it. Put it in your desk or bag or something. I have more at home that I can bring in. Better to be prepared, right?”

Lily raised her eyebrows when she caught what Lorcan had said. “Well that’s not very encouraging,” she replied. She held out a coffee to him. “Figured you might need one, considering you’re buried in work.”

“Lily Potter, you are a lifesaver,” Lorcan replied, grinning from ear to ear as she held it out to him, “How on earth did you know?” He asked, taking it from her.

“I can’t say I envy you, in some ways I guess I’m lucky to still be in the training process. Even if it is for a completely different thing.” If it hadn’t been for Matthias she would have finished her Magizoology training and probably took up any excursion that sent her to far off places, or even simply gone travelling herself to write her book. But now she was settled with someone, happy and had no desire to move, so she simply switched her plans around and moved teaching at Hogwarts up by a few years. “I didn’t aware I needed something in order to come and see you, was just wondering if you wanted to grab lunch. Or if you’re drowning in paperwork, maybe I could go and get us some and bring it back.”

“I’m still kinda surprised you switched it up if I’m being honest,” Lorcan said. He understood her reasoning for sure but he didn’t know if he would do the same thing. He didn’t have anyone in his life like that yet, “No, no, I can leave,” He said, starting to move the paperwork into some kind of order so that he could leave it at his desk, “Where did you want to go?”

“I know that all too well.” Casey added with a shake of her head, “I feel kind of bad that I didn’t bring you a coffee now, though I wasn’t planning on coming across someone that wasn’t the intended person I was looking for.” Casey commented, giving the other a small guilty look. “Was just wondering if Alastair was around anywhere? Or if he is even working today.”

Lorcan laughed, “I’ve had too much coffee anyway,” He replied. It was a joking tone but he really had had too much coffee, “Alastair Watson? I think he’s working but not in the office. Not sure where he is today.”

“Ha ha,” Lorcan replied, shifting some of his things to make space for her to sit, “You can have some Lorcan time. But only a little bit right now. I need to get back to this eventually.”

“Nope, I’m good. I only wanted to ask how are you today, but it looks like you’re very busy so I won’t bother you,” Poppy said with a little smile. The time between school rush and Christmas rush was rather quiet so she was able to take slightly longer lunches. She often found herself wandering around London with no purpose, just to keep herself active.

“Oh hey,” Lorcan replied, smiling, “No, no, sit. I can make time,” He insisted, patting the spot next to her, “I’m alright. Haven’t seen you since before Halloween,” Part of that might have had to do with his brother, “How did all the chaos go for you?”

It felt like all eyes were on her. She knew logically it wasn’t the case, but ever since the Gossip Witches had told everyone, it was the only thing she could think about. It wasn’t like it had been a secret, not like the other stories the witches had revealed. She had been voted Biggest Troublemaker for Merlin’s sake, but there was a big difference between people thinking she was big drinker, or a party girl, and knowing she was an addict. What were people going to be thinking? Her friends, her co-workers, her old professors? All the people who were going to be too afraid to invite her places, or tread on eggshells around her in case they pushed her over the edge and off the wagon. It would have just been easier, she thought to herself, to have done the dare. At least if she was drunk, she wouldn’t have to feel anything else.

She’d been so wrapped up in her own head, she hadn’t noticed the person standing in front of her, and frankly, had no idea how long they’d been there. “Sorry, did you say something?” Erin asked. “I… wasn’t listening.”

“I said thanks for not giving me a killer hangover,” Lorcan replied, trying to joke as he sat down next to her, “I’m sorry this happened to you,” He added after a moment.

“What is an appliance you wished was magical by itself?” Hadley asked the other as she tried to brainstorm some ideas for her business.

“Me?” Lorcan asked, “Uh... I don’t know. All the appliances I use are either fine the way they are or have already been made into a magical item. Why?”

“Who would have thought that no longer being an intern meant more work,” Lorcan muttered to himself in a slightly joking manner, not thinking anyone could hear. He was looking over some reports from a recent excursion. He didn’t get to go on the excursion, just copy out the notes afterward but he was working his way up. He looked up when someone approached, “Sorry, did you need something?”

Lysander scoffed loudly. His brother could always find an excuse and he was truly not interested what it was this time. No matter what the reason anyone had to treat him like they did, Lysander felt the way he felt and he was not going to try and justify any of that. “Think whatever you want, Lorcan. I honestly don’t care what you or anyone else thinks. I am done. I am not going to surround myself with people who think I’m not enough. I am better than this,” he said firmly. He then narrowed his eyes when he noticed how his brother was acting. He didn’t mention it though, feeling too angry to do anything but scowl.

“Nobody thinks that!” Lorcan snapped, suddenly. It had nothing to do with Lysander. He had become agitated. The anxiety was getting the best of him, “I’m sorry that you feel that way but it isn’t true. I always thought you were better than me. You never felt the need to prove yourself to anyone, that makes you more than good enough to me,” He clenched his fists, nails digging into his palms so hard that he almost drew blood, “I’m sorry, Lysander. I really am,” He moved to walk away, his hands shaking. He needed to get out of here and it was clear that his brother didn’t want him to be here. Lorcan wasn’t ready to show the side of him that he always tried to hide, especially not to his brother, who would probably see it as a way to make him feel sorry for him or something else to hate him for. At least that’s what Lorcan was thinking.

Lorcan laughed, “No I don’t have any plans to be a superhero. That would be crazy.”

“Thanks, I think I might wear flowy dresses more often,” Charlie laughed, looking down at her dress and looking back up to see Lorcan was no longer standing in front of her. “Uh– where did Lorcan go? Did I scare him off or something?”

“What do you mean where did Lorcan go? I’m right here,” Lorcan said and then frowned, “Wait, what happened to my voice?”

Lysander hissed at his brother when the other attempt to scare him. “That’s rather childish of you, Lorcan,” he commented, narrowing his eyes.

Lorcan sighed. If he’d known it was his brother, he wouldn’t have done it, “I thought you were someone else,” He replied and lowered the mask he was wearing, not realising he had changed appearance while it was lifted, “Wait, you are someone else. What happened to Lysander?” He asked, finding Addy standing in front of him.

“Well it’s Halloween, it’s meant to be spooky right?” Axel tried to find a way to twist the other’s pumpkin around. “How about say whatever it is… it got deformed or it got mauled by a werewolf or something. Boom– now it’s not botched but instead super creative.”

Lorcan laughed, “Very smart, man,” He replied, “You’re sure you can make it look like that without having to explain it though?”
