“My lord,” 

Sebastian didn’t need to sleep. His master knew that, but the innkeepers did not. Unfortunately by the time they arrived, there was only one single-bed room available. The only other furniture item was a small table by the window. 

“Perhaps, given the circumstances, we should share the bed.” 

He could stay on the floor, but where was the fun in leaving it there?

Ciel was well aware of what Sebastian was saying. Figuring his butler was merely teasing, the earl glared at him in annoyance.

“Why? You can just sit on the floor. No one will know.”

The obvious answer, one the demon was probably expecting, having likely only started the conversation in an attempt to get a rise out of his master.

If he pushed the matter, perhaps it would work… the boy was already tired, and irritated because of it.

His master’s response didn’t surprise him in the least, but it certainly wasn’t going to deter him - it merely encouraged him. 

“Young Master, I don’t believe sitting on the floor would be an appropriate place for a butler - especially in this suit.” 

The bed was large enough for the two of them anyway. If the housekeeping were to open the door under the false impression that they’d permit it, they’d see him on the floor or standing and would likely question it.

“And I believe you will be perfectly fine sitting on the floor. If you happen to damage your attire in any way, I am confident that you will be more than able to repair it.”

The boy gave his butler a slight smile, but surveyed the room with his uncovered eye. There was nothing to indicate otherwise, he thought--if Sebastian was capable of incapacitating rooms full of people at once, then he was definitely capable of such a trivial thing as this, which he would well have known himself.

It stood to reason that the demon simply wanted to create conflict, and Ciel refused to oblige.
