We have federal and state laws. Our founding principles express our belief in separation of church and state with no state or universal religion.
Sharia law is a religious law, not a democratically chosen law for a free republic. It is suitable only for a theocracy. We are not and are constitutionally forbidden to become a theocracy.
There is no place for sharia law in any country that wants to be free and to NOT be a male- dominated, religion-governed society.
As a side note to fellow Christians: if you push for our religion to be dominant and to control government, you pave the way for any successive population to force its religion and religious practices on the population. Like it or not, out forefathers were very wise in creating the Establishment clause. In their discussions before the Declaration of Independence and after the Articles of Confederation, they accurately identified the establishment of a uniform religion to govern society (rather than a democratically elected government, elected by the people, and answerable to the people) and warring denominations for control in governing and ruling the people. It is a very sound, desirable system.
Sharia law throws all that out. We can elect and remove our representatives in government if we disagree with or question their decisions, actions, and leadership, and we are not legally punishable for that.
Sharia law on the other hand--being religious, rather than representative or classicly governmental--purports to be the will of Allah, God, and it is dependent on the Muslim prophet Muhammad. And the "will of Allah" as presented by Muhammad in the Quran is whatever the atatollahs, imams, mullahs, and other Muslim leaders represent it to be. We have seen in countries under sharia law what happens to those who question or insult or offend or violate sharia law: murder, Miami g, disfigurement, dismembering.
And in the more radical sharia- law/sharia-supportive enclaves in the US, the UK, and Europe, what do they chant, threaten, warn of, etc.: "Death to all infidels" (meaning all who are not Muslim), "Death to America," and they use all mean to gain and enforce control of their theology upon the countries the government into.
THERE IS NO PLACE IN A FREE COUNTRY, ONE FOUNDED ON AND BUILT BY INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS, FOR SHARIA LAW OT THE THEOLOGY THAT IT STEMS FROM.
