The History of Viktor Farrow:
Viktor had been an only child for fifteen years before his younger sister had been born. For fifteen years, heād done what any young man had done: heād flirted and danced and courted and heād done his lessons and listened to his parents for the majority of the time. He enjoyed the life given to him by their station, knowing that it would be yet a long time before he became lord of their estate.
Of course, he hadnāt taken his sister into account. Whereas Viktor was careful with whom his affections were placed, Serena gave hers freely and took them carelessly back, and he was left with fending off offended suitors to protect whatever honor his sister had. After all, frustrations or no, she was still his little sister and he would do what he should to protect her.
And it had been going well. For nearly two decades, they had continued on in this manner. Viktor had taken over the lordship when their father died and heād kept watch over his mother until she, too, had died. And then it was him and Serena. He, again and in all formality, was her official caretaker, after all, tasked with not only finding himself a bride, but also she a husband, though she cared little for the prospect as far as he could tell.
However, everything changed the night that heād learned just what sheād done. No longer could he be her protector, except to protect what sheād become. What sheād eventually led to him to become. Though, Sylvia had been a happy accident. Once viewed only as his sisterās friend, she became a sort of solace. Sheād cared little for what sheād ended up and they spent many a night together, while Serena was out enjoying the fruits of her existence. After all, not everyone took to immortality the same. And it was within no time - less than two years, in fact - that Viktor had wed Sylvia and was turned. And, though his reaction to it had not been as dire as hers had been, Viktor still did not view their new existence as the blessing that Serena had.
When the war came, there was no question that they would side with the Kadares. However, he had not expected to lose the one that truly mattered the most to him. And, even long after the war had ended, he could still see it all, the guilt a punch in the gut each time he remembered something small, the smile on her face, the twinkle in her eye. There was no question that Viktor was not the same after the war. But, opening the manor to the newly turned gave him a purpose. One that didnāt include fighting, but instead guiding. After all, heād been taking care of others for such a long time, and there was no more need for senseless violence. He would not be at the helm of it. So, opening their home to the new generations of immortals had been decided without question. It filled his time now that his love was gone and his sister was occupied away from him and with court.
As much as he loved Serena, he couldnāt help but to blame her. And though they shared their past, Viktor was reluctant to share as much of their future as once had been expected. He wanted her married and under someone elseās protection simply for the sake of getting rid of one bout of guilt. The other would come in the form of Adeline DeLoraine, who had caught his eye most reluctantly on his part. He could only hope keeping his distance would spare her the same kind of trouble that had followed the Farrows for two centuries.
Experienced, Calm, Insightful.
Adeline DeLoraine: It was not the persistence of her parents which had swayed the man to ever reconsider marriage, in fact he had been most pleased with his decision to carry on with no one but the poor immortals that he cared for. But it seemed his choice was not as certain as he had considered it. From the moment he had met the young woman he felt his resolve quickly dissolving until he had taken her parents offer. He knows that she does not look so favourably on him, but if it could be for nothing else, the peace of mind of knowing she would be rid of her parents might be enough.Ā
Serena Farrow: He loved his sister of course, but he found his affection came much easier now from a distance. No matter how hard Viktor tried it had only grown harder over the years to look at her without being reminded of the human life that Sylvia lost. A life wherein they may have found each other while both of their hearts still beat, and where they may have left the world hand in hand as it should have been.
Jonah Albright: Both Viktor and the fae remembered a time when men such as themselves would not have been allowed within the castle walls, much less welcomed to sit on the council. Yet, even with the many experiences they shared he found Jonah remarkably hard to read and even harder to predict.
