"this person puts so much effort into their 'alters' profiles pictures theyre obviously a faker!! no one who REALLY had DID would care so much about aesthetics!!" hey so imagine youre profile picture is all the self-expression you get. imagine no one calls you by your name, no one ^knows^ your name, all most people will ever see of you is a little card with an icon, a banner, a colour, and whatever you put into the description. people really take having the ability to express oneself, the ability to exist and be known as oneself, for granted.

There's a point at which successfully masking plurality in a relationship (platonic or otherwise) starts to feel like lying. Because the other party feels like they know a person, when really what they know is a role being played by a succession of different people wearing the same costume.

Interestingly ive been dealing with difficult symptoms from bipolar and some amnesia due to meds (presumably) and things like that but my dissociation is the lowest i can recall it being. Like im present in the moment and aware even if i forget things, i dont get bad switches and my system is the most cohesive and cooperative its ever been which is weird but good (what if thats bc the EMDR worked. big if true)

there seems to be just a huge niche of people online that really need/would greatly benefit from the framework of plurality but are afraid to claim it. which i understand because me too i doubt it for myself a lot. but i think there are a lot of us who don't really meet the criteria for DID or OSDD yet would still benefit from viewing ourselves as actually multiple selves. and perhaps a substantial number of us will later find out they meet the criteria for a diagnosis about it but i think we need to be less caught up on "do i meet this criteria" and instead focus on "what will be helpful to me". which may include resources for people with DID/OSDD, or may not.

Every person that I know, that I have opened up about my schizophrenia to, has shared that they have had at least one psychotic experience in their life.

Whether that was that they have psychotic features as a part of their bipolar disorder, depression or PTSD. Or that they have seen a shadow of a person out of the corner of their eye, or a delusion that some entity is after them. Even if it was just a single instance of hearing a voice that wasn't real that stuck with them.

It seems like when I break the barrier of stigma and silence, people feel comfortable enough to share their own experiences and I love that.

Psychotic experiences are extremely common. Anecdotally, it seems that everyone has had at least one hallucination, delusion or instance of paranoia in their life. And I wish everyone was able to talk about these experiences, and how they've affected them without fear of shame or panic from the people around them. This is a normal thing that brains do for whatever reason. It shouldn't be seen as bad unless it negatively affects someone, and then you should listen with care and see if the person needs help in any way.

That's why acceptance for those of us with disorders like schizophrenia is so important. If you can hear a schizophrenic person out, and not treat us like we are dangerous or scary. See as equal human beings that happen to have these experiences. Only then will the pathway for everyone to share their experiences with psychosis be open and normalized.

I think it's fascinating that human brains can create experiences out of thin air. I think it's so cool that everyone can relate to me in even a small way. Imagine how many interesting conversations and connections we could all be having about this if we destigmatized psychosis and schizophrenia.

Starting to think the fact i forget important things at work and have a hard time focusing may no longer be bc of burnout (since im medicated my mood is leagues better) but because i dont actually care anymore. Awkward. But thats legit not great cuz i compare myself to my coworker who gets a lot done and i think i dont do much n it makes me sad

Rewatched the trum.an show n it really is like that. I felt that. It really is like everyone is forcing you into a parody of a life and expect you to go along with it smiling and cheering. It really is that if you want to leave they gaslight and repress you so you dont feel better but you bottle it up. And the whole ambivalence with the parasocial link the show creates. Aghh

"I just find it hard to believe some people who claim to be systems. why do all their alters have strange names and unique appearances and weird mannerisms?" queer people are disproportionately at risk of experiencing childhood trauma. autistic people are disproportionately at risk of experiencing childhood trauma. there are countless studies on this if you want to hear it right from the source. childhood trauma is the driving factor behind a massive majority of DID/OSDD system formations. I trust that you can connect the dots here!

if you intentionally choose to disregard peoples' existences based on their appearance or behaviours, you have biases that you absolutely need to deconstruct before people like me can ever feel safe around you.

you can start by saying nothing about how you "just can't believe it" when someone you don't know exists as a system where you can see. you can keep going by trusting the people in your life when they share extremely vulnerable information about themselves.

telling someone that you're part of a system feels like exposing your soft underside. I've cried from terror almost every time I've had to reveal it to someone I care about, and I don't cry easily. if someone tells you they're part of a system, they're placing a monumental amount of trust in you.

please don't break that trust.

actually, another thing!!! you are seeing systems who:

1. actually know that they're systems (this is rare. being online makes resources on figuring it out WAY more accessible) 2. happen to exist in the same online space as you, the tumblr user reading this 3. are, as a result, usually younger and/or autistic and/or queer, which are all factors that can influence individual alters' identities.

so of COURSE you think we're all like this. you're looking at one damn tree instead of the whole forest!!! there are systems who are 60 years old and never had the resources to figure out what was going on. there are systems who are 30 and barely use social media for personal reasons. there are systems who are 20 and don't tell anyone because of the cruelty they've faced every time they try. there are systems who are 15 and are SO relieved to have answers to why everything felt weird and wrong their whole life, so they shout it from the rooftops. your limited interactions with systems in specific online spaces does not represent the majority of systems on earth.

even if it did represent the majority of systems on earth we STILL deserve to be treated like people. this should not be something I have to beg for!!!!!
