The biggest compliment ever is when someone sees your creative work and says that they’re now inspired to go out and create something, too
the city guys are here again,
hunched in their orange vests,
with loud trucks rumbling like hungry stomachs,
and the chainsaws,
tearing through morning like bad news.
tree limbs drop—
crash, crack,
a symphony of disregard,
and that monster machine,
the one that eats what it kills,
chewing life down to mulch,
spitting it back as dust.
I watch from the window,
coffee cooling in my hand,
thinking, poor trees,
what have we done to deserve you?
they don’t scream,
don’t weep,
don’t flinch at the blade,
but I can feel their pain,
a quiet sorrow that lives in the roots,
a resignation to human folly.
we lop off limbs
with the same carefree abandon
we carve up the earth,
pave over the softest parts,
and call it progress.
the trees,
they must think of us—
how sad,
to be so small inside
while pretending to be giants.
i'm trying to be less negative on here. i'm trying to be positive, and not negative [hands start shaking, diastolic pressure increases by 8 millimeters] and gracious too
me at night: just one more wikipedia article before bed
3 hours later: ooh taoist sexual practices that seems interesting
being deconstructed probably feels good as fuck for a genre
are you mad at me: deconstructive, assumes the other person’s feelings, accusatory more than inquisitive
do you want me to kill myself: broaches a problem and solution in one, prioritizes action over feelings, proactive in seeking a resolution
10 days of replica perfume: sample set first impressions
🧼 bubble bath: bf instantly recognized it as 'soapy'. the more floral start is pleasant but not impressive to me. it gets very milky and coconutty as it wears, which is not my preference. old ladyish; i wish it leaned fresher and cleaner.
🌤️ lazy sunday morning: quite pretty; a good balance between clean & worn-in. there's a subtly rosy floral aspect to it, balanced with a touch of juicy pear, but also a comfortable, light musk, like waking up on bedsheets that had been freshly replaced the night before.
🍂 autumn vibes: opens with decaying foliage and moss and a woodsmoke note that becomes more prominent and spiced, until the carrot seed comes out and gives it a sharp rainy edge. a walk on a wet november day. androgynous, but a bit too stern & glum.
☕ coffee break: a coffee cousin of bpal's dorian, one of my favourite perfumes. it's bitter-roasted up front, combining the cosy scent of a latte with milky lavender and an elegant orange blossom streak. also androgynously attractive. my fave of the set & my household agrees.
🥃 jazz club: opens with a sweet tobacco mixed with polished wood. a vivid leather impression develops; vetiver and booze are prominent. imo this is very masculine & for the cold seasons. it feels comforting. did not like it much at first, but it's growing on me. fam hates it tho.
🍋 under the lemon trees: smells like a chain hotel trying hard to seem like a tuscan villa: soapy, citrusy toiletries, iced tea in the minifridge, light-toned woods and clean linens. abysmally muted right after spraying, zero longevity, & offensively generic.
💐 springtime in a park: pear and muguet. rounded, slightly soapy floral, clean and extremely subdued. this is too one-dimensional and generic to spark my interest, but it's not unpleasant per se. just boring. there are better florals out there; this feels outdated.
🐚 beach walk: smells like sunscreen but elevated, with a salty, sunbleached vanilla and ylang ylang heart. the coconut is lowkey enough to not overpower the fragrance. pleasant enough to enter my rotation, even if it is a bit basic. my household agrees that it's decent.
⛵ sailing day: very transparent cologne. has a peppery, aldehidic opening. i can detect the seaweed, the juniper, and woody notes but it's quite muted and close to the skin; longevity is low. a rich yacht club boy with the soggiest personality ever would wear this, not me.
🔥 by the fireplace: a blast of bonfire woodsmoke subsides gradually and gives way to sweet resins and cashmeran musk. there's some woodiness, which i wish was stronger. top notes are delightfully witchy, but fleeting, & the cashmeran sweetness is not for me.

“I know the world is crazy. I know love is not always the way it’s meant to be. I know sometimes, things hurt. But I also know that we’ll get through this. That our hearts will arrive on the other side, in one piece. That everything is beautiful, if we give it the chance to be.”
