I’m getting threatening scam emails from author john green
Why can I only get myself to work 2 days before deadline?? 😭 Part 2 & Poster version http://adhd-alien.com Why am I a Fish? I don't know but I'm live right now http://twitch.tv/adhd_alien/
So what you’re telling me is that you’re a cocomelon baby
This irony of needing to broadcast your sexuality/gender/mental illness/whatever is so counterintuitive or counterproductive to actually integrating equal rights into queerness and vice versa all you’re doing is putting a little pink triangle on yourself like you’re in a fucking concentration camp. Self expression is one thing and having fun with your identity or whatever sure but Jesus man do we give a fuck that you’re a faggot? Those who do don’t have enough hobbies
Watching the gears turn in people who eat overnight oats’s head when I tell them it’s literally just cold oatmeal that’s been sitting in your fridge all night
I’m naturally blonde and I don’t know what posts like this are supposed to mean. Like I genuinely don’t know if I should be offended by statements like this or not because I don’t know what the hell this means.
you should take every post you see dead serious 👍
I see a lot of posts like this and after a while it gets slightly grating. And I’m aware that simply by replying to you I’m gonna come across as funny haha taking this too serious get a load of this guy on the internet but when I often see people insulting a part of me I have no control over I don’t think it’s crazy of me to push back slightly. And I still don’t know what the hell this means.
There’s people in the notes saying shit like “I’ve never met a blonde gay guy that sounds frightening” and as a blonde gay man am I just not allowed to be kind of offended by that? Like Jesus Christ, people can see what you say on the internet.
Also like. what's the joke. say the joke, explain it. If you can't explain the joke without sounding like a dick then maybe that joke isn't as funny as you thought it was
To me the "ew, blonde people" jokes are in the same vein as the "ew, the french" jokes. It's funny once or twice because we all know blonde people and the french aren't actually discriminated against, and no reasonable person would hate someone just because of their hair color or nationality (right?), but it gets to the point where it just seems like some of y'all want to group to hate "as a joke."
I'm not blonde and I'm not french but seeing these kinds of jokes all the time makes me really uncomfortable. I can't imagine how it feels to actually be blonde or french and have half the internet "jokingly" hate you. You aren't allowed to be mad because it's "just a joke" and "you're taking it to seriously" and "it doesn't matter" but something about it still feels wrong. It's not punching down but it's not punching up either. It's just punching some random dude. And I don't like that.
its really funny how every once in a while someone will get on here and just openly admit that they don't think (or don't remember) that white privilege is a real thing
Probably best to not mix up the conversation about structural oppression and personal insult?
Just because hurling an insult at white people isn't a part of broader system of oppression doesn't mean that people won't take offence to it. Similarly, insulting blond gay men (I still don't necessarily understand what the joke is meant to be there) doesn't cease to be hurtful towards blond gay men because blond(e) people don't face broader discrimination in their day to day.
Of course, using language against traditionally marginalised groups can go beyond being simply hurtful to individuals and plays into extant systems of power, but that doesn't negate the hurt people feel when they are insulted.
Naturally, one might want to cause offence and be thought of as a nasty person by a certain group. That's your right, of course, but you can't really defend against being thought of as unpleasant because the person you're openly insulting (or implying there is something wrong with in the case of this post) ticks some box of privilege. If you want to insult categories of people, go ahead, but you can't hide behind some feature of yours when people of that group think you're unpleasant.
To make up for your insecurities you have to broadcast your identity at every moment in time as if it doesn’t live and breathe with you. It’s not second nature, it’s your roommate. It’s just not something you’ll ever see as yourself so you have to consistently make it known in your finite existence to add meaning to your insecurity.
