Taste the Light {Vanitas & Ventus }

It’d been a little while since he’d recovered from his nearly wakeless slumber. He was settling with a few things still, after finding his friends. They both seemed a bit different, but eleven years had passed, and much was different with everything, even the worlds.  One thing hadn’t changed though. The worlds were still covered with darkness. 

Darkness. 

It was a topic that the blond wasn’t able to understand. He’d had his own stripped from him so long ago, that the topic of such a thing was so far beyond him he couldn’t even begin to wrap his head around it. It was such a sinister, vile, scary thing… in short… it terrified him, and he couldn’t quite explain why. There was one part of the darkness in particular that always drew his attention though - no matter how much he tried to pull it away. 

Vanitas. 

What was it about the boy that captivated him so? Was the fact he was so different from himself, or was it the fact that the blackened heart the boy held was actually his own? It was just something to ponder that the raven haired teenager was actually part of Ventus himself.

Light.

Something that on so many levels had always alluded Vanitas, but Vanitas had never cared.  He had always believed light was weak, that it would never be any kind of equal to the darkness Vanitas controlled.  He enjoyed being a being of darkness.  It was through the fault of his troublesome other that he had ever doubted himself.

Ventus.

The name wrung through his head, made his ears ache and his head spin.  That petite little moron had gone on and on about his petty little friends.  Didn’t he realise what he was?  Who he belonged to?  Ventus would always be a part of Vanitas, just as Vanitas would always be a part of him.  So why?  Why did he reject him?!  Frustrated, Vanitas summoned all the power he could within his palm, then let it fly at the nearest rock, sending shards of earth flying everywhere.

He stopped dead in his tracks as his eyes fell onto the sight of the black haired boy. Vanitas. Why was he always so easy to find in the moments when he didn't want to? His eyes were wide with curiosity as to what the other was doing, but he stood still, saying nothing, staying just far enough away for the other to not notice him. So he hoped. 

He seemed angry, and that fact alone was enough to keep the light at bay. Last thing he wanted was another dose of Vanitas's wrath. So in attempt not to disrupt the other, he took a step backwards, his heel knocking against a few loose stones, trying not to make too much noise. His body was telling him to run, and leave the other to his raging, but there was just something there what wouldn't let Ventus leave.
