          i   haven’t   touched   my   laptop   in   days   .   .   .   my   brain   is   a  fog   ,   i’m   in   the   process   of   moving   /   renovating   to   be   done   by   next   week   ,   &.   had   to   leave   a   job   i   used   to   love   for   personal   reasons   :/   also   might   move   deacon   +  felix   to   a   mumu   --   just   thinking   thoughts   .   .   .

          “   no   ,   no   i   know   you   don’t   have   to   smell   it   .   i   just   haven’t   smelled   beer   since   i   was   a   kid   and   --   guess   the   smell’s   kinda   nostalgic   .   ”   there’s   a   light   shrug   of   his   shoulders   as   deacon   raises   the   can   of   coors   to   his   lips   ,   allows   the   liquid   to   relax   on   his   tongue   before   swallowing   .   “   my   mom   used   to   call   my   aunt   over   to   bring   her   the   3   c’s   :   coors   ,   camels   ,   and   coupons   .   ”   in   the   last   few   days   since   deacon’s   escape   ,   he’s   spent   most   of   his   time   with   eddie   ,   relearning   and   learning   and   drinking   cheap   beer   and   listening   to   whatever   music   eddie   puts   on   .   deacon   finds   it   fascinating   how   much   the   music   scene   has   changed   in   a  decade   ,   but   doesn’t   mind   the   stuff   eddie   plays   --   makes   him   feel   warm   in   his   skin   .   or   ,   well   ,   maybe   that’s   the   beer   .   “   what’s   this   song   again   ?   ”

          “   it’s   1980   what   ?   ”   deacon’s   expression   shifts   drastically   in   this   moment   ,   realizing   how   long   it’s   been   since   he’s   been   in   hawkins   --   or   outdoors   in   hawkins   --   and   .   .   .   god   ,   this   would  make  him   nineteen   if   it’s   1983   .   or   twenty   ,   depending   on   --   “   what   month   is   it   ?   ”   he   asks   ,   inquisitive   brows   furrowing   together   as   head   tilts   slightly   to   the   left   .   a   finger   comes   up   to   itch   a   spot   above   right   brow   ,   remembering   the   scar   that   formed   after   a   fall   he   had   when   he   was   six   .   his   mother   only   stopped   wailing   long   enough   to   tell   the   paramedics   his   birthday   .   may   11   ,   1963   ;   you’d   go   missing   ten   years   later   .   “   is   this   still   hawkins   ,   indiana   ?   ”
