Been thinking about the Pipis scene in chapter 3 and just the sheer amount of body dysmorphia Spamton must have gotten from it.
Love him or hate him, it's hard to miss his desire to rid of his past self, at first distancing himself from the Addison title while also wishing for a more capable and powerful body, via Neo. And it makes a lot of sense: he was never wanted for what he truly was.
As an Addison, he had no sales, people ignored him or threw him away and as his puppet self...well, that's self explanatory. Everyone flocked to better, more interesting versions of Addisons rather than him. So imagine living like this your whole life, only getting the spotlight because you made a god damn Divine Deal, faking your success and your persona and then falling even lower than what you started as, in the end. Neo felt like freedom to him because abandoning his old life, his old self, meant being someone for once, even if it stung that it took changing literally everything about him for people to notice him.
Hell, we know he hates himself! At the very least his puppet body, from how he ends the Neo fight outside of snowgrave. He offers his help, but not as himself, as an ally in combat, but as a fucking object! Believing he is only worth something when he isn't even able to move, talk, anything!!!
Now, back to the TV World scene. By that point, Tenna's biggest secret (from his perspective), was revealed to the audience, and in his mind, that is his lowest low yet. To the point he begs to see the one man he had come to hate most. But he doesn't want just anyone: he doesn't beg for the on-stage Spamton, or the glasses that Spam turns into, not even Neo (not that he knew of that) but he begs for a little mailman. For all we know, this is the first time in a long while that someone wanted Spamton for BEING Spamton, and not just for what he can offer them in return. And Spamton SAW that, and he believed Tenna, for a split second, deciding to show his now normal self to him, in order to aid his former co-star. And what did Tenna do? Called him a rat. Sprayed him with foam and ran away. Imagine hating yourself so much, yet still making the active choice to be there for someone you used to care about, still care about, yet they throw you away like trash, just how everyone else did. Knowing all of this, it makes more sense to me as to why Spam said he wouldn't do that ever again.
This isn't supposed to make Spamton look more "innocent", fucker is hella guilty in what happened to him and what his life turned into, but this is just an observation on his own view of himself, especially after chapter 3.
HOLY SHIT I JUST REALIZED THAT UNI, THE INSTAGRAM CAT, MIGHT HAVE INSPIRED PLUEY!!!
NOT ONLY DO THEY LOOK THE SAME, BUT THEIR NAMES SOUND SIMILAR TOO!!!!!!
YOU AIN'T SLICK TOBY!!!!!!
Also, Uni can be found at @/unico_uniuni on instagram for anyone interested!
Something that has been on my mind for a few months now is just how royally fucked Tenna was before we even started chapter 3. By this i mean that we are coming from chapter 2, the one based off of Queen and the laptop, his direct competitor for more than 2 decades at this point, and we expect him to be at the same level as her? And their differences are shown quite blatantly too.
The easiest and most basic observation to be made is the colors used in both worlds: a cool, electric blue and green for Cyber World and a bright red for TV World (excluding the green room). Their layouts also differ, Queen's world being bigger while lacking background details, creating a more slick and modern aesthetic while Tenna's world is overall smaller, with less space to explore and a nostalgic feel to it, but having a lot more to redirect your attention (the massive tv walls that keep changing their screens). And i found myself realizing how this affected my gameplay too. It was significantly more overwhelming traversing through TV World, needing to take some time to rest my eyes so i can keep playing, an issue i did not have in the former.
I know that Tenna was always supposed to feel outdated, but the intentional decision to put his chapter right after Queen's is just straight up evil at this point, and i live for it! It really exaggerates just how bad the situation in chapter 3 has become. Queen isn't even connected to the internet when we meet her in chapter 2, yet she still outshines Mr. TV man himself! Dude is so fucked even the story progression is against him lmao.
Very excited that i finally got the courage to post stuff on this site (have wanted to for a long time now lol), so expect a loooooot more rambling from me. Especially deltarune thoughts and theories!
Another thing i wanted to talk about on here was the Z Rank room in chapter 3, and how that was given to Spamton. I had 2 possible ideas in mind as to why a big shot like him would get the shittiest room in TV world: either Tenna gave it to him as a joke, because Spam didn't perform well in his minigames or Spamton's room was turned into the Z Rank room after he left, and i came to the conclusion that the former couldn't have happened.
For one, we are explicitly told that Spamton NEVER appeared himself on TV, because that was the whole point of his contract with Tenna: he gets to be on TV with him in exchange for his secret. Fact that we know didn't happen, because Spamton ran away before he could do so (and i don't think they filmed episodes of TV Time beforehand, as again, Tenna talks as if Spam was never on TV).
Sure, the two of them could have played the stage games in their off time, but it would seem like a really shitty thing to do to your new sponsor, who you are entirely counting on to stay relevant, to treat in such a mocking manner. Tenna was desperate to keep Spamton around, no matter the cost, so just mocking him like that when he himself is in a dire situation seems like bad business.
So now i go back to my second theory, that Tenna turned Spamton's room into the "loser room". After their big fight, we clearly see a shattered mirror in the room, but the posters and the phone in there are intact. Sure, you could argue that he kept the phone just in case Spam or the benefactor called again, but the posters reveal how Tenna still feels. He hates Spam, but doesn't destroy their stuff (both the posters and the pippis). He probably didn't have the heart to destroy it or throw it away, so he just turned that room into the lowest ranking room(this also gives him an out if anyone asks why he kept stuff from his unreliable ex partner, since he could say it is still there to shame him, same as the giant head in the Susiesella game).
This also makes the Z Rank room the total opposite of the T Rank room, probably to boost Tenna's ego and to also be sure he wouldn't have to interact with that space again.
Tenna, you fucking self centered maniac! That's why we love you lmao
I wanna go over the fact that in chapter 3, Tenna's death was basically foreshadowed by Ramb. More specifically, whenhe started to turn to stone.
We all know by now that turning to stone means, in Deltarune, that a darkner lost their purpose. It's safe to assume that, while he was unplugged, Tenna was also petrified, which would add a lot more weight to his deal with the Knight and his desperation for an audience.
Anyway, back to Ramb. He seems to have a deeper role in the story, mostly from his petrification speech and also because he personally knew and remembered Spamton (probably the TV and laptop were plugged in the same outlet, if we wanna make sense of this in the light world). So, by assuming that Tenna was plugged into that and not just straight up in an electrical socket, the fact that Ramb literally LOST HIS PURPOSE, and that shit didn't seem to happen in the time Spamton was away and Tenna was unplugged, mind you, was a pretty clear indication that something was about to happen to Tenna as well soon (since he needs to stay plugged in to not turn into stone, but you can't do that if your power source already petrified!!).
I just love small details like these in stories because they make you feel better for noticing such small details!
If you were to ask a Deltarune fan which character makes a deal with an otherworldly being out of desperation, gets convinced by someone close to them to betray such a deal by telling them they can face whatever comes together, gets betrayed and they have to pay the price by getting their body mutilated, then they would be correct in saying it's Tenna!
I find it fascinating just how similar Spamton and Tenna are the more i think about them: Spamton has the deal with the caller while Tenna has the Knight, Tenna reassures Spamton and Susie is the one that talks to Tenna in the current TV World, only to then have them both suffer the consequences of breaking such deal. The only real difference is that Tenna was able to get fixed (and it seems like he has no lingering pain from it, from what we know so far) while Spamton is (presumably, again, from what we know so far) is stuck as this mangled puppet.
Another thing to note is that both of them were present at the time of both events: for Spam it was when they worked together while in current times Spam is only present as the Dealmakers, although we DO KNOW that he can both see and listen in that form.
They also both seem to mention hands/arms at some point: Sneo mentioning it in his fight and Tenna literally getting them chopped off. I am not going anywhere with this, but it was still stuck in my mind for a long time.
God, these two idiots have been doomed for so long already, and it seems like the cycle keep going.
