Just wanted to show off my Phantom shelf!
I finally got to my local comic book store to pick up the Universal Monsters Phantom of the Opera #1 from Image/Skybound. Along with the A Cover, they also had the die-cut I Cover which I also had to get. I don't normally buy more than one of the same issue, but I think this is a special case. I might get some more if they're priced ok.
It seems too be taking from a lot of different versions, and Tyler Boss refers to his experiences with them in his author's note at the end. His first exposure to it was Goosebumps and then saw ALW, which amazed him.
Martin Simmonds's art is lovely! Reminds me of smaller press horror comics from the 90s. [Edit: It’s struck me later that it reminds me of Dave McKean.]
Highly recommend! I'm excited to see what direction it takes!
The Limited Edition Red Vinyl.
Yes, I already own an LP.
I wanted to display the record in all its red velvet splendor but also keep the sticker on the cover, so I made a thin cut on the sleeve to coax out a disc.

Penguin Classics has just published a new hardcover edition of the Mireille Ribière translation of Phantom of the Opera. It's cloth-bound with a ribbon bookmark and an in-depth introduction by Jann Matlock. I haven't read this translation yet but really enjoyed reading the footnotes.
This is the shoujo Dracula adaptation I referred to in a previous post about the Kyofu No Meisaku manga/prose children's adaptation of Phantom of the Opera. It's bananas!
A very cute Dracula, definitely ready to fit in with London society with his elf ears and kitten teeth.
I hear his voice not as Lugosi/The Count's drawl or Skarsgard's wheezing, but Willem Dafoe as Count Orlok in Shadow of the Vampire. THEES ees hardly your PEECTURE any longer!
"What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets!"
Another Japanese children's adaptation of Phantom of the Opera, which is pretty, but to me not as interesting as the other Japanese adaptations. It's another in the shoujo style, this time part-comic, part-prose.
The "Operaza No Kaijin" story is only the first of three others of this "Kyofu No Meisaku" (Great Masterpiece), the others being Dracula and Jekyll and Hyde. The Jekyll and Hyde story is not noteworthy in the slightest, but the Dracula adaptation! The Dracula adaptation is absolutely bonkers and the best part of the book! Please check it out, there's nothing quite like it!
If you've made it this far, please, please check out the Dracula story! I'm going to keep this blog as just my Phantom-related content, but the approach to Dracula is madness! You won't regret it!
This is a beautiful Portuguese edition of Phantom of the Opera from the Brazilian Pandorga Editora. It comes in a slipcase and includes a poster, bookmark, and Andre Castaigne postcard. It has amazing art by Rafaela Villela throughout, and a cool feature is that they have Erik's notes in a scratchy typeface.
Got a little Wishbone de Chagny pin from @wheel-of-fish's Redbubble store! He's going to live on my ID card lanyard.
Another Japanese children's adaptation of Phantom of the Opera with shoujo manga-style illustrations, written by Sasaki Ari and illustrated by Asahikawa Hiyori.
Here's my Wishbone as Raoul plushie! Isn't he dapper?
Wishbone was one of my favorite shows as a little girl, and of course there was an episode about The Phantom of the Opera. It's so cute!
I've had my Romeo Wishbone since I was about 9 or 10. They like to hang out!
Wishbone had some classic adaptations published as books, but unfortunately Phantom wasn't one of them. The closest we got was Phantom of the Video Store, which just had Phantom elements and shoutouts because Wishbone's owner Joe is reading it for class. This is a pretty beat-up copy (thanks, ThriftBooks, for listing it as Good condition!)
This sheet came with my copy of the first American edition of Susan Kay's Phantom. Some blurbs, but this is noteworthy:
Film rights optioned by Steven Spielberg's company Amblin in conjunction with Warner Brothers.
So a circa 1993 adaptation of Phantom... My fancasting for Kay's Erik would have been John Hurt!
Here are my two copies of Susan Kay's Phantom, a trade paperback and the first American edition. The paperback has a lovely painted fold out cover, and the back cover includes a bookmark!
As a bonus, here's Legacy, the only other book Susan Kay has written. It's a biographical novel about Elizabeth I.
Phantom of the Opera Japanese children's adaptations
Here's my collection of Japanese adaptations of Phantom of the Opera for children. I think I have every one published, but please let me know if there are any others!
From left to right, top to bottom:
Operaza no Kaijin (A Masterpiece That Will Be Read Even 100 Years from Now 12)
Operaza no Kaijin -- The Phantom of the Opera (World Masterpieces You Want to Read by 10 plus)
Operaza no Kaijin (Forest of World Literature for Children 34)
Kyofu No Meisaku: Operaza No Kaijin / Dracula / Jekyll & Hyde (Toki Meki Yume Bunko)
Phantom of the Opera adapted by Kate McMullan (Japanese Edition)
The Phantom of the Opera: A Terrifying Melody Echoes Underground
This is amazing and I need to know if there’s a scan of them somewhere 👀👀👀
@ineffablekink You're in luck!
#3 and #5 have scans here.
I've got photos of #5 and #6.
And a redditor has completely translated #1. That's the one with pink-haired Christine, and Erik releasing bats into the opera house!
I want to post pictures of #2 & #4 soon.

I've wanted a French copy for completion's sake, and when I saw this cover I thought it would be a good addition to my Phantom shelf. No publisher is listed and no credited cover artist (AI?), but they thought to add "Édition originale et intégrale." Strange.
So here's my Korean copy of the 1990 Phantom of the Opera miniseries with Charles Dance. But what's really weird about it is the blurb on the cover.
That's taken from the cover of the 1991 proshot video! https://www.amazon.com/Phantom-Opera-James-Baldwin-VI/dp/B000059PQJ/
