Confirmed 2021 Season 8 God Reworks

Persephone 

This goddess is going to receive changes to the functionality of multiple abilities across her entire kit, with the main focus being decreasing frustration of her enemies and taking down her pro-play performance while increasing her casual performance.

Bastet 

We missed the mark on our previous Bastet update. Currently Bastet has strong win % stats in conquest, but players feel underwhelmed by her. We are giving her another new passive and a new Ultimate that should feel much more like a true Ultimate ability.

Janus

Our goal of this minor rework is to help improve this variability around his kit when it comes to damage. We want players to have a more consistent experience when playing as and against Janus. Unstable Vortex will lose its center dead area but still reward players for lining up a double hit. Through Space and Time will still bring teamwide mobility and a strong chunk of damage to anyone unfortunate enough to be hit, but it can no longer literally one shot a full health target.

Aphrodite in Lingerie, How Original 🙄

When picking out a goddess out of the SMITE pantheon to redo this time, I decided I wanted to try to make a “sexy” design that doesn’t rely on the Victoria’s Secret catalog. So here we are.

I didn’t change her body proportions at all, I only took the “in bra cup” shape out of her boobs. I gave her a draping shirt that’s more similar to ancient Greek attire. Isn’t it weird that the male Greek gods are designed to look more inspired by ancient Greek styles…. hmmmmm.

I did not give her pants, due to the ancient Greek influences, but I decided to make something out of the fact that she floats (for whatever reason). I ended up giving her a weighted skirt that would drag behind her when she moves. I imagine she could use it to great effect to look sexy or intimidating.

I left the belt in-place mostly because I didn’t have anything better to replace it with, but it’s definitely a bit much for the redesigned version. I think my shapes ended up being all over the place, but it’s still more interesting than the original. And I didn’t have to rely on lingerie for my design, what a shocker.

And last but not least, I changed her face to have more of an attitude and confidence.

Being beautiful and sexy doesn’t mean only having a specific type of face.

Developer Update - Odin & Bastet

TARGET POINTS 

In our evaluation of Odin we saw that his ability 3 and 4 would be the best path forward. This will be explained using the next constraints.

Bastet’s rework targeted damage skills that had little redeeming quality. Her passive was simply bonus damage, something she does not need more of, so that will be targeted. Her 3 and 4 felt like the best places to add more to her kit without conflicting with other goals.

PRESERVE CORE PLAYSTYLE

ODIN

Odin is known for his aggressive warrior gameplay highlighted by burst damage and his ultimate, and these elements we decided to keep.

His bird-bomb combo is simple yet satisfying, and integral to Odin’s playstyle, so neither of these abilities will be undergoing any changes.

Odin’s Ultimate ability to cage in enemies is extremely iconic to him, and is also being preserved. However, quite a lot of design changes are being made to it

His ability 3, Gungnir’s Might, will receive the biggest rework.

BASTET

Bastet is loved by her players for being a high damage, high aggression, early game jungler. However, we do feel that she does those things to an extreme level that limits her kit from having more features, and causes snowbally or frustrating gameplay.

We will not be changing her Pounce or Razor Whip, as they best fit that playstyle. This combo just felt so iconically Bastet that it could not be changed. It fits her theme and playstyle equally well, and it feels great to use on the battleground.

Bastet’s kit will have some damage shifted away for more utility, and some of her early game strength shifted to more mid-to-late game impact.

She will continue to summon pets, as we will discuss next.

Netflix announces 'Ghee Happy,' a new animated show about Hindu deities

The series will reimagine Hindu deities as children who attend a special day care and discover their own powers while there. Sanjay Patel, a first-generation Indian American, told NBC News that it felt natural to build a story around the Hindu culture.

As the son of immigrants, Patel explained to NBC News that he felt it important to bring aspects of the South Asian experience into media so that young members of the community can “see themselves normalized in pop culture and recognize that they matter and are included.”
