It’s funny how Zeus gets all the blame for being the ultimate father of mythology, with people constantly saying things like, “If only Zeus had kept it in his pants!” Meanwhile, Poseidon and Heracles have left a trail of children across Greece that makes Zeus look almost restrained. But here’s the thing—Zeus gets the bad reputation because he’s king. When the ruler messes up, everyone talks about it.

His affairs were grand, dramatic, and often involved transformations, so they stuck in people’s minds. Poseidon, on the other hand, had just as many (if not more) flings, but he doesn’t get the same criticism—probably because he wasn’t in charge of Olympus. And then there’s Heracles, who was basically speedrunning fatherhood between every one of his labors, but since he’s a hero and not a god, people just shrug it off. It’s a classic case of holding the one in power to higher (or just louder) standards, while the others slip under the radar.
