thoughts on ojiro’s mental state
as we’ve seen in the manga concerning ojiro, practically everyone thinks he’s “extremely normal” and even he himself thinks so, now, it’s not.. bad, to consider yourself at least a little normal, that’s not bad in itself but like
ojiro clearly doesnt like how normal he thinks he is, it bothers him immensely everytime he’s called normal or boring. he’s not extremely vocal about how it bothers him, but it’s very clear to anyone who knows him that it does. you would think then, that his friends would go out of there way to highlight extraordinary things that he’s accomplished, or at least compliment him some times, right? right, except they don’t. repeatedly in the manga we see the other 1a students call him boring, call his room extremely normal to ojiros discomfort, comment on him fighting and say he’s still so normal. it’s not like they do this behind his back either (which would still be bad, mind you), but no, they say all of this to his face, or where he can hear them. it’s almost like they don’t care about his feelings, even though they’re his friends and they should care. another person who does this to ojiro is shinsou, but with shinsou does so with obvious intent on knocking ojiro down and hurting his feelings, and ojiro reacts in the same exact way to shinsou’s comments as he does with say, jirou’s or ochako’s comments.
it’s pretty clear to me that ojiro is devolping, or already has major self esteem issues, he’s starting to comment those things to himself without prompting, bringing himself down a few pegs whenever he deems that he didnt do anything satisfactory. i don’t think this is the first time people have said these things about ojiro either, considering how .. used to it, he seems to be.
and here’s the thing, ojiro is absolutely one of the farther things from normal here, isnt he? he has a tail, which most people dont have, he’s terrifyingly strong, getting into ua with just his tail and nothing else, that takes extreme skill, you know?? there’s so much about ojiro that people could focus on and comment on, but they all (including ojiro himself) seem to only focus on his shortcomings, and i hate that.
