11/3/18 Development

The project is slowly but surely moving into a territory regarding community housing, with the title Millennial Housing. I have been strict with myself to follow through with this name and plan, as the outcome I hope will be surely beneficial to myself and the community. 

The process is to use the name Millennial housing to build a protest structure which will be transported to various sites which will allow me to engage with the community of Brent upon the unused urban Green land.

Development 2/3/18

Developing forward, this week I decided to visit mark who is working on a project within the cube project called http://project-2020.co.uk/projects#Cabins his project has allowed him to create these cube spaces to live in amongst the housing crisis. However, he has now developed the cube project to provide studio spaces to work within. His hopes for the project is to turn the cube into a kit which others can use to exploit the legalities in the system of the planning permission loopholes.

By this part last week Sunday we were able to finish the build of the roof      shell - however, we need to still cover it up and add insulation to make a more of a home style.

Setting up illustrations  5/2/18

Today I had no help developing the construction which has instead forced me to collect more material for the build from the local area. Also, it has made me develop my project further with the construct of developing more illustrations/gifs and the possibility of models for the work in progress presentation - also I need to keep adding to my sketchbook to show the development of my ideas and keep posting to keep up to date with my progress.

Day 3 (Help from Dad)  4/2/18

Today allowed me to work with my dad to develop my project forward, with his expertise this made the structure taller, working out a solid structure, and also working out how many more pallets will be needed. Going around looking for more material left outside shops and redevelopment house builds, finding any way to save money within this build, it is also exciting to get my dad involved even though he can criticise what I am doing, he will agree some of the time and others disagree highly.

1/2/18 Day Two: House Build  (Walls)

Day 2 Build of the walls, again this was another struggle, figuring out hose to build and screw the walls together, working out which piece should stand by the next piece, a tricky puzzle to solve. However, it is slowly piecing together and building this on my own for this part is taking some time but it will also speed up the process when my dad comes to add his skills into helping me finish it.

30/1/18 House Build Day One

Now I have started to build that house, unfortunately, my dad had to go to work but we previously discussed how the base should be built, to which I had started to build today. I realised the long process it takes to build something of this scale on your own, especially learning from my mistakes and how two pieces of wood can join together. My dad said he will build it by the weekend, however, I hope he won't be undoing the work I started doing all this time.

Pallet Shed / House Build - Dad (Patrick) & Louise Build 30/1/18

Today was very tedious in starting and the thought of finding some pallets to build this idea, luckily on my street we found some doors to fill the car up with and also around the corner loads of pallets available on a new house build. This took a few car journeys and loading and unloading the car also cleaning the car afterwards. By this time it was around 4pm nearing the time of darkness, now the challenging part must come about, having to build it. 

My dad has tried to explain various ways of going about building it but because he is at work the rest of the week, I will have to forgo having a go at the challenge myself. This is daunting but I know mistakes will have to be made to learn anything. Below are some images going around my local area collecting materials.

Outcomes of Printed 3D model

The process of using these models as forms of ideas of Millennial generation development to gain assess to leftover land within society. The millennial generation needs to take advantage of sites that exist and build new forms of movement to challenge councils and government.

Mum & Dad experiment

Using their ideas of what they would like to be built in the Garden, taking the context of architecture as a way to dismantle their thoughts: 

In the activity, I asked their opinions about the prospect of building in the garden and also my reasons for doing this would be ...

I asked them to use the images given to them: 

From realistic views of outhouses and re-arrange them to make a collage

Then the second task was to take the unrealistic outhouses from places that exist near my house i.e. Wembley stadium old/new and see how these could exist within my garden. 

The final task was trying to merge together the realistic view and the older view together to create new platforms of realising concepts.

All of this process was videoed and allows me to reflect on the activity.

Transportable architecture

Looking at ideas of transportable architecture 

Use of CNC machines used by Dominic Wilcox his idea around driverless cars / and relaxation transportable architecture through space is a great source! 

As I went to the Architectural Association Library I came across a book called ‘More mobile portable architecture for today’ - Portable architecture is not something I distinctly thought about however in the combat to challenge the issues of housing perhaps this is the way forward for this challenge for younger generations. Instead of owning a house they could find alternative routes of living accommodation.

During my time at the library, I specifically went there to buy a book called sub-plan which has allowed me to think about alternative concepts of building within the garden to combat planning permission.

Ideas about regenerating the garden as a whole look, as a way of moving into the garden I could tend to the way the garden looks but also living out of the house gives myself independence and also a way to maintain a relationship with my mum and dad that I have had. Creating a garden annexe also creates more room in the house - I’m having my own space away from my parents. 

Some examples of this as well as restrictions on planning permission - seems to take over the issue. 

However, ideas and loopholes from people such as sub-plan look at alternatives to make the subject do-able.

Examples below - highlight that the 29-year-old was allowed to sleep there however not allowed to have facilities for cooking. As of a fire hazards/safety as there was only one exit.
