Apple of my Eye (Obsessed!Wally Darling x Short!Reader) Pt. 5
Well well well, look who's posting later than expected because she left her phone at a friend's house yesterday.
(its me, i did)
Anyways, enjoy!
No TW for this chapter!! You're just hanging out with your new friends!!
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
The next morning, you were exhausted. You'd barely had a wink of sleep after what happened, but you knew you had plenty to do today, and got up anyway.
Upon trudging to the bathroom and looking in the mirror, you discovered you had dark circles under your eyes, and your hair was a knotted mess.
You tried everything to fix it, but it was no use. With a frustrated groan, you flopped onto the bathroom floor and gave up.
"This is ridiculous! I'm too tired for this today! I wish someone could just-"
That's when it hit you. Julie! She could fix this for sure!
So, you peeled yourself off the floor and made your way to the kitchen, putting on a pot of coffee before going to the phone.
"Hellooo!" Julie chirped into the phone.
"Hey Julie...it's (y/n)"
"(Y/n)! Super extra good morning to you! What's up buttercup?" she giggled.
Her enthusiasm was usually charming, but today it kinda made your head hurt. Still, you needed her, and it wasn't her fault you hadn't slept.
"Well, I had kind of a rough night and didn't get much sleep. I look just terrible and I was hoping you could help me out"
She gasped, and it sounded like she was jumping around.
"A MAKEOVER?! Ooh! We'll do a whole spa day! Let me grab some stuff and I'll be right over!"
She hung up before you could say anything else, and you sighed before hanging up as well. Maybe Frank would have been a better option today...
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
"Huh? Already?" you wondered aloud, going to answer it.
As soon as you turned the knob, Julie burst through your door, nearly knocking you over.
"(Y/n)! I came as soon as I could! Oh, and I brought Franky-doodle along. Hope that's okay!"
"Correction, you drug me here and didn't even tell me why. And I told you to stop calling me that!"
Frank sighed, shutting the door behind them.
"Hello, (y/n). Sorry about her"
"Oh, that's okay. Honestly, I'm just glad for some company. Maybe it'll keep me awake. Do you guys-"
You paused, observing Julie as she bounced around your house. You cleared your throat and turned to Frank.
"Uh, do you want some coffee?"
Frank seemed relieved.
"If you don't mind. Julie drug me right out of bed for this..."
You chuckled. They weren't nearly as mean as the others made them out to be. A little grumpy, sure, but you would be too if you had to put up with this all the time.
Yet, at the same time, Julie was very sweet and eager to help out. You couldn't fault her for that. She was just a little...excitable.
"Your house is so pretty, (y/n)! And these pictures look like you're having so much fun! I especially like-"
She spotted the ones of you and Wally, and gasped.
"YOU'RE GOING OUT WITH WALLY?!"
Frank nearly dropped their coffee mug at the sudden yelling and glared over at her.
"OMIGOSH! We are doing facials and boy talk, RIGHT THIS MINUTE!" she squealed, flapping her hands excitedly and running over to the bag she had brought. It was stuffed full of hair supplies, skincare products, and makeup. She dug around until she found a green tube that read 'Soothing Cucumber Facemask', and three headbands.
She tossed you a (fav color) one with cat ears, and gave Frank a yellow one with bunny ears. She took the blue one with dog ears. It reminded you of Barnaby. Frank grumbled and slipped his on, pushing his hair out of his face, as you followed suit.
She took out a brush and gently spread the mask onto your face. You sighed in relief. It was cool and refreshing, and it helped un-jumble your tired brain.
"Sooo..." she snickered as she moved on to Frank.
"Spill it, what's up with you and Bob Ross over there?" she said, nodding her head in the direction of Wally's house. You couldn't help but laugh.
"Good one. W-Well we went on a date..."
She squealed and kicked her feet.
"How'd it go?! Did he bring you flowers?! ...did you kiss?" she whispered the last question as if she were a schoolgirl trying to keep the teacher from hearing her. You blushed a little and looked down at your hands as she pulled out a mirror and applied the mask to her own face.
"Julie! Don't smother them..." Frank scolded, stirring their coffee.
Julie rolled her eyes.
"Franky, I cannot take you seriously in that headband..."
Julie paused to rephrase her question as she put the facemask away and grabbed some nail polish from her bag.
"Fine. Well...okay, but like just tell me what you guys did, at least"
You nodded as Julie began to paint her nails a vibrant purple.
"It...was a picnic. We set up under the tree Wally likes to paint under. And...yes we did kiss...and we took pictures. And we made things...official"
Julie squealed yet again and flapped her hands rapidly. Frank rolled their eyes.
You decided to leave out the part of the night where Wally was being strange. If they didn't already know about this side of him, you'd feel weird saying something like that about their friend.
Frank hummed in thought.
"You're far more courageous than I am, (y/n)..."
You were about to ask them what they meant, when Julie piped up with a giggle.
"I keep telling you to just ask him already! Eddie really likes you!"
"You and Eddie? The postman? Huh...I could see that" you said thoughtfully, sipping your coffee.
You didn't want to embarrass Frank further by revealing that Wally had already told you about their crushes on each other.
"SEE?! Everyone thinks you'd be good together!" Julie exclaimed. Frank huffed in embarrassment and pointed an accusatory finger at her.
"Oh yeah? What about you and Sally? You don't have the stuffing to ask her out either!"
For the first time since she arrived, Julie went silent. Her face flushed red and she looked down, pretending to really concentrate on her nails.
"...that's different" Julie eventually spoke in a soft voice. You'd never heard her at this volume.
Frank scoffed.
"No, it's not" they argued, beginning to peel the corners of their mask.
You figured Frank must know when they're supposed to come off, and started to do the same.
"Yes it is! Sally is...she's..."
Julie put her hands over her blushing face and groaned in frustration.
"She shines so bright...she's so funny and happy...and she's absolutely adorable in those overalls...they really suit her"
Frank's expression softened, and they placed a hand on Julie's shoulder. She peered up from her hands.
"Jules...you're torturing yourself, you know. You need to confess to her or you'll regret it. Just do it...it's so obvious to everyone in the Neighborhood that she feels the same anyway"
Julie took a deep breath and smiled up at them, placing her hand on theirs.
"Thank you...you know what? I will! I'll pick that girl a whole bunch of sunflowers and tell her how amazing she is! How she makes my brain wobbly! How she lights a big ol campfire in my tummy!"
You smiled, your heart warmed from this interaction. Frank and Julie really loved each other, didn't they? They really were best friends. Even if Julie got on Frank's nerves, you could tell they really brought out the best in each other. And to know that people like them considered you a friend too made you really happy and grateful.
This feeling combined with the coffee woke you up some more, and you piped up.
"You know, Wally is quite the romantic actually..."
They both leaned forward a little, eyes wide, as if to say 'tell us more!'. You chuckled.
"Yeah, um...he carried the picnic basket and...and offered me his arm while we were walking. And he said I looked 'perfect' when he saw me..."
Julie swooned, pretending to faint and fall against Frank's shoulder. Frank snorted.
"You're just imagining Sally doing those things, aren't you?"
She sat back up and smacked their arm playfully.
"Shut it! What happened next, (y/n)?"
"Well...he did put his arm around my waist for part of the walk. And...and then when we sat down, he sat me in his lap. And then he...kissed me. Then he said he would just die if I didn't agree to be his. So...I did..."
Julie grabbed a pillow from your couch and screamed into it, kicking her feet. When she put it back, her hands were flapping yet again.
"A whirlwind romance right here in our very own Neighborhood! Oh, Franky, couldn't you just get cavities from all this sweetness?!"
"I will agree, that does sound...magical..." he said, and looked down as his cheeks turned pink.
You immediately knew he was picturing a similar date with Eddie.
"Gosh...love is really in the air around here..." Julie sighed with hearts in her eyes.
"Agreed. (Y/n), I think you may have just motivated us to ask our crushes out too."
"Yeah! I want a cute love story, too! One right out of a romance book" she sighed dreamily.
Frank chuckled and leaned towards you.
"Those are the only kinds of books I can get her to read, you know. If someone isn't smooching, she has no interest in it"
You laughed.
This felt really good; laughing with your new friends. They really made you feel like you'd been in their circle forever.
You three continued to gossip and giggle and joke around as Julie did full skincare routines on all of you. When it was time for hair, she brought one of your dining room chairs to the living room and handed you a magazine full of different styles as Frank sat on the couch looking over their own magazine about butterflies.
"-so I said Poppy, girl, you cannot be serious! That shade of blue is SOOO last season!"
You giggled as Julie added some spray and stepped back to assess her work. She gave you a proud smile and handed you a mirror.
"Oh my..." you gasped, taking in the sight of yourself.
You'd called Julie just to see if she could brush out your knots and maybe help with your dark circles, but she had really gone the extra mile! Your skin was glowing and your hair was perfect, and the cherry on top? Some very subtle lip gloss, just to add a bit of shine to your lips.
Your eyes sparkled in amazement as you gazed at yourself.
"J-Julie, you're amazing! I haven't looked this good in forever!"
Julie beamed with pride, absolutely eating up your praise. She had also dolled up Frank and herself, the two of them having decided to ask their crushes out that day while they were still pumped up from your date story.
Frank stood from the couch, a determined look on their face.
"I've decided! I'm going to ask Poppy for help making Eddie's favorite pie, and then I'll invite him over!" Julie clapped excitedly.
"Woo! Go Franky!" she cheered as Frank marched out the door.
"I'll let you guys know how it goes!" they called as they shut the door behind them. Julie smirked at you.
"Wanna go spy on them?"
"I'll get my shoes"

There will be more stuff going on next chapter, I swear! I just thought it would be fun to spend some time with your new friends and take a little plot break to help stretch out and fill in the story.
A filler episode, if you will.
Also, yes, I am back! I will hopefully be writing plenty more now. I am also currently working on another Howdy oneshot and some HCs too!
Love y'all! <3
