MIRANDA LAMBERT • Velvet Rodeo Las Vegas, NV 2024
Miranda Lambert on Stage in Vegas, 2022
How was her relationship with Blake? I never followed the relationship itself as closely as I did Miranda's music! I know she loved him, but I never did feel like he was "the one" for her.
Well I was not in the fandom at the time but I don’t believe it was good. All the info I have has been found out after the fact so you could definitely find it out too! My info comes from her music and from interviews (with her during and after the relationship, and with him or both of them together during the relationship). All the interviews are just from YouTube so you can find them easily. There was lots of times where they’re just joking around but there was also times where it was taken way too far or just never seemed like a joke to begin with. The one that sticks in my mind the most was an interview with Blake at a charity thing Miranda was doing and the interviewer said how proud he must be of her and what she’s achieved and he said not really and he was only there cause she’d be angry if he wasn’t. I had someone once send an ask saying I was just sensitive and they always joked around when they were together. Maybe I am sensitive but to me if that’s a joke, it’s not funny. He didn’t even laugh or give a real answer or anything like that afterwards, just moved right on.
“I didn’t start out with that perfect Barbie image, so I didn’t have anything to live up to. I was just like, I’m going to be a shit show from day one, and that’ll be easier”
- Miranda Lambert
Do you think Miranda is happy to be leaving Vegas for a bit
Yes I do! Bless her, she’s really not a city girl. Brendan will be sad though since we all know he loves the bright lights and chaos. They do a great job of balancing all that though and keeping them both happy. Miranda deserves her farm time now lol, she’s doing amazing with Velvet Rodeo but it’s time for a break 💗
Y’all okay, I’m in my feels about the crazy ex solo-writes. So I’m just gonna dump about it here. No one’s probably gonna read this anyway.
The songs: Desperation, and More Like Her. We all know when crazy ex is from. We know these are about Blake. There’s exactly zero chance these are about Jeff. She also said Desperation was one of the most personal songs she wrote (I can no longer find that interview and I’m annoyed cause I wanted to link it here, if anyone knows what I’m talking about please send me the link lol).
So. I am absolutely, utterly flabbergasted that she stayed with Blake. I just cannot fathom it.
“Throw a dog a bone, I'll take it if I have to”
“Complicated words slipping off of your tongue, ain't one of them the truth”
(Please forgive the randomness of these, I am doing this from memory and just noting down whatever sticks out to me).
“What's the use in making all the plans that we made if you weren't gonna go?”
“You took a chance on a bruised and beaten heart and then you realized you wanted what you had”
“You were too caught up in giving too much up and not doing what you should have been”
“You don't look much like a man from where I'm at”
“I’m still desperate for you” ….. bestie why???
I just do not get it. How a man could make her feel this way and she still married him. Makes no sense to me. I can’t help but feel like she must’ve been just going through the motions and doing what she thought she should’ve been doing. That or Jeff was so awful that this behaviour somehow felt acceptable to her. Or she was just so insecure that she felt this was all she deserved despite her public bravado. I don’t know. But whatever it is, it’s awful.
And it was always clear that the relationship wasn’t wonderful. I’ve seen interviews dating back to 2008 where Blake was just plain rude about her or even sometimes directly to her face. If he was like that in public I dread to think what it would be like in private. You see it in later songs too Maintain The Pain, Baggage Claim, Two Rings Shy etc. I’m only including the ones she wrote but I can’t help but feel like there are some very pointed selections of other people’s songs that she included too (we’re all looking at you Dead Flowers).
It’s so awful that she put herself through all that pain. And I am so so glad that she’s come so far and learned from that and ended up with a loving and caring man now. She deserves it more than anything after all that.
Also after all that sadness we need to end on a cute note … 💗
And I'll grab the wheel and point it west
Pack the good and leave the rest
I'll drive until I find the missing piece
You’re back! I hope you’re okay. What songs turned out to be your favorite from Palomino?
Thanks, I’m fine, just super busy. As for favourites it does still change a lot but on heavy rotation at the moment are Country Money, Scenes, Tourist, and Music City Queen. 💗
Do you think Carousel is about a past relationship of Miranda's or completely made up fiction?
Oh hey, I have not been on this tumblr account in ages but we kinda already have the answer for this (I’m aware you probably sent this in before we did so that’s all good). She said it was close to home which led to a lot of speculation. But then we got this little piece of info from an article “the idea was inspired by the perspective gained in 2020. Lambert says she'd been on the country music carousel for so long that she had to find a new way to keep her career moving when the world shut down.”
And honestly I think that’s really interesting. It’s not about a person at all and about her career changing! Though we also have to remember there were other writers involved too and maybe for them it was about a person. But for Miranda it was about her career. That article also talked about her learning that she doesn’t have to live every sad song she writes. So I think it’s safe to assume that many of the sad songs she’s released recently (and in the future too) won’t be based in reality for her.
😍🙌🏻
Iconic 🙌🏻❤️ She (and Brendan) look amazing. Plus Video of the Year 😍 It really is her year 😊
Opinions on Actin' Up? Personally I love it ~ The verses are a level of sass I never thought Miranda would fully reach (dumb of me to doubt) and the writing style is so fun. The chorus sounds great even if I think the transition from verse to chorus is a tiny bit rough ~
I love it!!! Had it on repeat since it came out. I think it’s in my top 10 Miranda songs ever. Can’t wait for the rest of the album.
My thoughts on the album is it will not be an original or fresh. It will be a combination of The Marfa Tapes like songs(especially since 3 songs from that album are on this one) and Wildcard. Wildcard was my least favorite album she’s ever put out. I liked Marfa Tapes but don’t need repeats. And I’m with you about covers. I‘m meh on Strange and Actin Up. The listing and comparison of various things in a song has been done. Carrie does it in Denim & Rhinestones. I wish she would have waited and taken more time on this solo project. She is releasing at the same time as Maren (good album and her label mate), Carrie, Thomas Rhett, Aldean and ton more to come. And to be honest neither Marfa Tapes or the Annie’s Xmas album did well commercially. WC still hasn’t gone Gold. It just feels rushed to me. But again a lot more competition now with other women artists so I guess now is as good a time as any.
I don’t like that there’s songs we’ve heard already either but we’re in minority about that - most of the fandom have been begging for a studio version of Waxahachie since Marfa came out. And don’t get me wrong I also asked for a studio version of it and I’m glad we’re getting it, I just wish there were more new songs as well.
The rest of your ask I really disagree with, this is more of a concept album and the last time she did one of those was Kerosene and even then it wasn’t as coordinated as this seems to be. I guess TWOTW was also a concept album with the nerve and the heart but it was also autobiographical. Don’t get me wrong I do love autobiographic songs/albums as they give us insight into her life but they aren’t as creative or unique. So I’m really looking forward to all these creative characters she’s invented, I’m already thinking about maybe doing some illustrations of them or making them as sims or on online character designing programmes if I can’t be bothered drawing them myself.
I’ve had Strange and Actin’ Up on repeat these past few days Actin’ Up I think makes into my top 10 Miranda songs of all time and Strange makes into my top 25. I adore them both.
Miranda has paid her dues and she doesn’t really seem to worried about commercial success, she’s making music for herself and her fans and I’m so here for it! 😊
I’m hoping Carousel can be like the next Bluebird Y’know~ the Title kinda has that up and down but resilient vibe to me
Oooh yesss that does sound good 😊
Well aren’t we spoilt? Welcome to the new era everyone 💗🏜🤠 I am SO excited for this album, April 29th couldn’t come soon enough.
This album seems to be heading back towards hardcore country, compared to Wildcard where there was some rock and pop influence. I can’t say I’m surprised after Marfa, it makes sense she’d be heading that way. Then again there’s also Mick Jagger covers and duets with the B-52s??? Veryyyyy interesting.
So track list time…
Actin’ Up - I’m guessing Drunk but make it full on country? I’m excited for this, it fits her vibe and is a song that I can live vicariously through.
Scenes - I cannot really get a read or vibe from this. Maybe something about going through changes/evolution. I’d love for it to be a love song, like comparing her relationship to a movie (hence Scenes) but I don’t think that’s the vibe she’s going for.
In His Arms - I like this song. I do. But it’s like a 6 or 7 out of 10 for me. I love the Marfa version and don’t really know why we need another version. But I’m not surprised. Given how many times Miranda sang it live in the Marfa era it must be one of her favourites.
Geraldene - so excited for this!!! I thought since this is a fun, casual song that it wouldn’t make another album, I love it though so I’m so glad it did. It does very much fit the vibe she’s going for so it makes sense.
Tourist - No clue the vibe here and I’m guessing it won’t be one of my favourites (lmao watch the album come out and this turn out to be my fave 😂😅). I’m wondering if this is similar to Strange, like a ‘I feel like a tourist in my own town’ kind of vibe.
Music City Queen (feat. The B-52s) - based on this title this sounds like it could be one of my faves. But then there’s the B-52s … why??? Seems a bizarre choice, they’re not country, they’re not relevant. Odd. But I trust Miranda and I know she always has a good reason and a plan. I still have high hopes for this.
Strange - love, love, LOVE this. Gives me a lot of insight for the vibe she’s going for.
Wandering Spirit - meh, I’ve been very open about the fact that I don’t like covers. I’m sure she’ll do it well though.
I’ll Be Lovin’ You - this is the love song. She tends to only do 1 or 2 love songs per album 😂 I’m sure this will be very sweet, I love when she writes about Brendan.
That’s What Makes The Jukebox Play - oooh I’m excited for this. It’s giving There’s Something That I Like About A Honky Tonk vibes. I am so here for it!!!
Country Money - either a variation on White Trash or a commentary on the music industry and how it’s kinda going to hell. Based on the vibe of the album I’m thinking more likely to be the first interpretation.
If I Was A Cowboy - I love this, we already know. Like Strange, it really lets me know the vibe she’s going for. It seems like a very cohesive album which is cool.
Waxahachie - THANK GOD. I love this, I need as many versions as she’s willing to give.
Pursuit of Happiness - I have so much hope for this, maybe a melancholy but also outlawish kind of vibe. Like talking about drinking and singing and travelling but it not quite being enough to make you happy kind of thing. That’s what I hope anyway.
Carousel - no clue. Seriously no idea. But knowing Miranda it’ll be a very metaphorical commentary on life. I feel like it could be amazing or just miss the mark a bit 🤷🏼♀️😂
The only 2 things I’m a little sad about is that the Ashley McBryde and Caylee Hammack co-write Bad Night To Be Liquor isn’t on here, I feel like it would fit with the country, kinda outlawish vibes. I hope someone releases it one day (probably Ashley, it fits her vibe too). And the other thing I’m sad about is just how many of these songs we already know. If you count Strange, that’s 1/3 of the album. Only 10 new songs (and one is a cover) on release day 😢 But honestly we’ve had so much new music over the past year or so that I’m not that mad at it. She’s been crazy busy and I’m grateful ❤️
So, what are y’all’s thoughts??? 😊
