No one is truly passionate about Yoongi’s mixtape
and this is why I think so;
For years (especially since Namjoon released his own) people have been constantly making the joke “RELEASE THE MIXTAPE” in Min Yoongi’s direction. You can find it on a bunch of BTS videos and threads or posts on tumblr or any other social media. To a lot of ARMYs, Yoongi releasing his mixtape was just some big joke, not that they actually wanted it or wanted to hear what he had to share with us. And we, as ARMYs, know that he is passionate. We know he works hard, and we know that the whole “lazy, apathetic” person he is is only since he puts so much effort into what he does because he’s a perfectionist and wants everyone to enjoy what it is that he puts out there. So time continues to go on and people still use the joke “Where’s the mixtape?” as if it’s something funny. But it’s not, because this is something he’s putting all of his hard work into, it isn’t going to be done overnight. Then he makes the announcement that he will be releasing the mixtape this month. A lot of people are excited, which is fantastic, that’s great, he deserves the excitement.
But what do most ARMYs do when the mixtape finally drops?
“Born: ____ Death: 2016 Cause: Min Yoongi’s mixtape”
And sure, those jokes are great and funny and all (minus the “infires” one because jesus fucking christ why are we still making these jokes it’s not even funny anymore??) but when they are everywhere, they stop being funny. And once again, we go back into that whole “meme” phase, where even his mixtape being released is some sort of joke to most ARMYs. And that sucks. That seriously sucks. Yoongi deserves more recognition than what people are giving. You watched the video? Great! You support him? Great! But do you actually care about what he’s putting out there? About how nervous he probably felt releasing this to the public? Do you even seriously support the mixtape or are you only bandwagoning because everyone else is talking about the mixtape and so you just have to be in on it?
Also, there was another post joking about how Yoongi’s lane is “packed” because he dropped his mixtape, which brings about the issue that no one has cared about Yoongi until now (funny, didn’t this happen with Jin and how he bleached his hair? Wow. ARMY is full of surprises!). All of the hard work he has done before or what he’s released prior to this or how he has grown, no one cares. And that is insulting as fuck.
The issue I find is that a lot of ARMYs really don’t “give a shit” or “give a fuck” about Yoongi and his mixtape. They don’t care about his words or about his effort or anything else. They just care because everyone else is caring and everyone else is getting hype about the mixtape that they feel they need to be hype about it to. And you know what? If you’re not that hype, then that’s okay! But just please don’t pretend like you are. A lot of the comments on the videos are just not genuine at all, and it’s almost sickening. The only song people seem to care about is “the last” (which is a gorgeous and deep song and I am utterly proud of him), but that’s not all he’s written. He has several other tracks that have lyrics just as meaningful. And of course there is this beautiful post dedicated to the incredible lyrics he’s wrote (and let’s not forget the romantic (even if they’re sad) songs, like “Just One Day”, “Skool Luv Affair [Intro]”, “Dead Leaves” and even some of the lyrics in “Where Did You Come From?”), but who really cares? How many people seriously care? Does anyone know these few songs?
I’m really just trying to make a point here. People don’t legitimately care about what Yoongi has done (or even how much he has grown because jesus christ!), not really or seriously. It’s upsetting because people who do care believe he deserves so much better than this and while the fame is great he didn’t just put this out for the fame. He has put out heartfelt lyrics talking about his life and his struggles, which is personal, and I’m sure that it took a lot of strength to do. But no one bats an eye at it, and that’s the terrible part of it all.
Please keep in mind that I am a complete Yoongi stan (and he’s my ultimate bias), but this is just how I see it and I’m upset. He deserves more credit than what people are giving.
