think i might’ve found some answers in the teaser for s6. SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK

the car is very likely the same on 1 picture and the last. the number is LR59 FDC. in the teaser the flip was mirrored but we still can see the blurred resemblance in letters “LR” on the first picture.

there’s clearly Coe as a driver and judging by the 3 picture there’re River and Sid with him. the lunatic woman is the one who made a shot at the rear window.

and looks like there’s the accident with them all in the same car. no accident in the book though.

thoughts? i really have hopes for novichok and Coe death in the book sounds more suitable than just a simple car accident

the "river needs a hug" posts annoy me so much because he gets hugs and it's not helping, he's still this annoying, irritating guy. by s5 he's the meanest he's ever been. it's almost like there's something else missing in his life other than affection.

river needs to get his rocks off, but we have to wait for this magical woman character who will finally let him have sex - which is a normal human need that this character for some reason is being denied. and it's so disgusting that she's only allowed to exist as a love interest and a recipient (literally...) of years of river's frustrations. I can say this because we have the books and it's not only an adaptation, now it's this prophecy, the fate of those characters is already set in stone. we know what happens next and it always comes down to this: those are not very good books and we're never escaping the horrible misogyny of it all.

it's a valid interpretation if you want to think of river as aro/ace, but personally I can't ignore the river x spider scenes because it's such a rare depiction of desire on television. see: everyone is beautiful and no one is horny - SH s1-3 did everyone was beautiful and many were horny.

the concept of river and sid having a baby and river really really wanting a girl. he would obviously love his kid anyway but, deep down, he’s terrified that, if he has a boy, he’ll end up being too much like him (a human disaster who can’t seem to think before doing stuff) and inheriting the worst bits about him and the other men in his family, who were either outwardly terrible, like his father and brothers, or people who were so badly caught up by the errors of their ways that it consumed them, like david or river himself at some moments. he couldn’t cast his unborn child to that same destiny, to that same curse that ran through his veins. a girl would be more like sid, smart and lovely and less likely to suffer from all of these issues.

when they find out their baby is a girl, he’s so happy, like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders. one day lamb jokes that “at least she will be more baker than cartwright” and river has to pretend like that doesn’t relieve him as well, that the thought of his child being free from all the sorrow that he went through didn’t make him sleep better at night, that he couldn’t be happier that there would be no harkness in that perfect little girl, just the same qualities of the woman he loves.

but she’s a cartwright from the moment she’s born, a little blue-eyed baby whose eyes look so curious about the world around her. she turns out to be an adventurous and stubborn and erratic kid, she cannot be patient or still to save her life and she’s so brave that it’s terrifying. just like he is. he and sid raised the girl version of him, despite all his beliefs before she was born.

and he realizes that maybe that’s not that bad. that having a similar personality to him doesn’t mean she’ll be miserable or follow the awful steps of his father. she’s unaffected by the ghosts of his past, she’s a whole new person with so many chances of getting things right or wrong, but those won’t be because his family is cursed. and, especially, since he loves everything about his daughter, maybe he can be a little kinder on himself.

i think i might be too woke for cartwebb/riverspider. “but aren’t they a yaoi ship?” yes, but to me, instead of the cool gay guy everything in the fandom seems to picture him as, he always read as that conservative privileged boy in your class who doesn’t know how the world works. the podcast listener who will complain about stuff being too woke.

obviously freddie fox plays him very well and he’s very charismatic, and i think people might like him for that, but his character is so bad. like the way he’s soooo excited about meeting the racist nationalist and the “at least you’ll get an interview” (among other awful things he says to louisa, like asking her to apologize for what is likely one of the worst moments in her life) line are very telling, giving slow horses is political. he’s a little better in the books, but he’s still so envious it upset me. it didn’t feel cool and sexy and erotic, he’s just a loser.
