Hi, one of my irls friends needs help, please please boost if you can. She is trying to escape her abusive housing situation and this is a process that requires not only a lot of courage but a lot of MONEY.
As of posting she is only at $140 out of $1,300.
I know many of us are broke on this site but I have seen campaigns many times this size reach their goals just through the power of everyone sharing and giving what they can. Please give her this energy as well.
Where do they sell these vests
Collins is gone.
Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.
Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.
All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.
After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.
It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of years—far longer than settlers have been in Canada—and made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotēn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.
And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racism—like Kashechewan—because it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.
The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.
Right now, the AFN is currently accepting donations to help Collins First Nation. If you're able to, please consider donating.
ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.
Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.
*Before sending money, verify that the appeal appears on an official First Nation, Tribal Council or registered charity channel.
If you can't offer financial support, please consider donating items of need. Moontime Connections is currently accepting drop-off donations. If you live in the Thunder Bay area, Namaygoosisagagun Health Office is also taking in donations! They can also bemailed to Superior Inn Hotel & Conference Centre at 555 West Arthur Street, Thunder Bay, ON, P7E 5P8.
items needed are: food, diapers, medical masks, men’s and women’s joggers (all sizes), children’s clothing (newborn to size 14), children’s shoes, summer clothing, men’s clothing, toiletries (lotion, Vaseline, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, etc.), strollers, adult depends-all sizes, dog & cat food

Today in australia they started senate hearings on the bill the government hopes will make enough disabled people die or disappear to make us all less irritatingly expensive for them. We had two weeks to submit feedback on over 400 pages of complicated legal terms. They don't care what we have to say and they don’t care that this will kill people and disenfranchise disabled people across the country.
There are 760,000 Australians on the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the system that - if they feel like it and your personalised plan says you get to have it - provides funding for everything from personal hygiene care to support workers to therapies to assistive technology. It's already very hard for disabled people to get on the NDIS, regardless of your disability. It's near impossible to access most support and equipment without being on the NDIS. And the government has announced that they want that number to drop to 600,000 in four years. 160,000 of us cut off the Scheme - and countless more denied access. This will cause deaths. People will die and people will suffer because there is no safety net. The NDIS is the only option for most of us. Even private health insurance doesn't cover most of these things. Nobody will swoop in to save us.
The bill wants to give the (non disabled!) NDIS minister basically unlimited power to cut our funding. They're already planning what they'd do with that power. What rights they'll strip from us. What dignity and freedom they'll remove to make their budget look better.
The bill wants to force people to try every treatment out there before they're allowed to be on the NDIS. Including if the treatment is literally impossible to access. There’s a lot of us living in regional areas or out bush who can't just pop to the capital cities for specialists. This will especially hurt disabled First Nations people in regional and remote communities, who already experience limited access to healthcare. Oh, and it includes chemical restraint, too. The government has directly refused to exclude chemical restraint from the required process, calling it "trialling medication".
If you're australian and worried, the ABC did a good breakdown of the proposed changes.
I know australia stuff doesn't really pop up on the radar on this site, but I want everyone to know what's going on. What we're fighting for here. Your australian disabled friends might be NDIS participants fearing for their life, rights, and freedom. They might not be a participant and afraid these changes mean they never will have access. We deserve better. The government built a system with no backup plan, and now they want hundreds of thousands of disabled people to pay the price for their bad planning.
Sorry we're too expensive to have rights, I guess.
A great place to donate to First Nations groups impacted by the ongoing wildfires 👇

Also consider Mikinakoos' as they're extending support beyond their traditional service areas due to the scale of this emergency!

one thing i wanna say though is data centers being built in rural areas is environmental racism + classism so when i see ppl bitching about locals bitching about data centers im like oh it’s literally because it’s not your backyard being demolished and your air not being polluted and your waterways not being ran dry and your soundscapes not being raised to unhealthy decibels ….
I am now on my fifth day without food… surviving only on water Not because I’m fasting by choice . I do this to save whatever little food I can for my family.
The food we have left wouldn’t last a day if we all ate. So I stay hungry. I drink water to quiet the pain, to stay standing, to keep going. Every bite I don’t eat means one more bite for my kids.
My body is getting weaker, but a parent’s love is stronger than hunger.
The famine is real. The suffering is deep.
Please don’t look away.
@dawoudi and I speak almost every day. Every day I ask him how he's doing and hope he can tell me he's been able to eat something. He tells me not to worry, but I can't help it, because my heart is breaking.
Please help him by donating to his family's fundraiser, so that they can buy food when it arrives on the market. Thank you. ❤️

It is #15 on the gazavetters list, and was also shared by @nabulsi here and here.
My father was at the market, as he always is, searching for anything that might ease our hunger. Under the relentless sun and on his seventh day without food, surviving only on water he collapsed from sheer exhaustion.
Thank God, he’s home now, beside me. But he’s terribly weak, as if his body can no longer carry the weight of life. I begged him to eat. I pleaded, just so he could stay with us a little longer. He hasn’t had chicken, or meat, or even fruit. God knows we don’t have those.
He finally took a few bites of dry bread. But watching him struggle to swallow, my throat tightened. The lump wasn’t just in his throat it was in my heart. Scraps of stale bread… which I begged him to eat, just so his heartbeat wouldn’t leave this home.
And in that moment, I understood.
I understood why he wasn’t eating.
Because sometimes, hunger "cruel as it is" is easier to bear than eating when your dignity is shattered. When you’re trapped, abandoned, and the world is watching in silence.
We at the @gazavetters team extend our heartfelt wishes for a swift recovery and complete safety to our brother AboAhmed @dawoudi and his honorable family.
We are all going through extremely difficult circumstances, and we pray that this hardship will soon pass, and that peace and security will prevail for everyone.
This is a historic event in every painful sense of the word a brutal war, massive destruction, and a famine devouring lives. Every moment of delay could mean the loss of another life.
What more can be said?
Stop the genocide. Lift the siege. Feed the hungry. Shelter the unhoused. Heal the hurt and ill.
End the occupation.
Free Palestine.
I’m deeply thankful to be back home, surrounded by my children. Though my body is tired and frail, my heart still beats with strength, and my will remains unshaken.
These past days have been harsh, but it is dignity and patience that have truly kept me going. Hardship has not broken me and by God’s grace, it never will.
As long as there is breath in me "in all of us" we will stand tall, endure with courage, and keep praying for relief, not only for ourselves but for all who suffer.
You scared me. I'm glad you're ok. I know you're strong and you will keep going, but I still worry.
This cannot go on. This needs to end, so the people in Gaza can have peace, food, water, housing, and their health and dignity back.
Pressure your governments, share fundraisers, donate when you can.
Please.
What we’re enduring isn’t just hunger. It’s a daily assault on dignity. A test of patience.
Your words truly touched me, reaching a place in my heart that only sincerity and love can reach.

In what world is it normal for a person to have to go for 7 days without food? Please, please, please support them in this incredibly difficult time!
You can get a postcard after you donate!
A year ago, during the famine, my father was forced to survive for seven full days on nothing but water because there was simply no food.
It was one of the hardest periods our family has ever endured, and the memories of those days still haunt us.
We pray that those days never return, and that no one is ever forced to experience the pain of hunger and famine.
