Emmerdale: Anthony Quinlan reveals Pete & Debbie passion
Emmerdale farmer Pete Barton could have a new romance on the horizon as he grows closer to Debbie Dingle next week.
Pete and Debbie Played by Charley Webb give into temptation after she arrives to help him with a car breakdown. However, as Debbie is still recovering from her ordeal with killer Cameron Murray, it won't be easy for her to let her guard down and let someone new into her life just like that.
Anthony Quinlan - who plays Pete - chats about the new Dales passion
What is it that attracts Pete to Debbie?
"Debbie is Miss Independent shall we say. She does quite well for herself and is obviously an attractive girl. I can see why Pete has fallen for her a little bit."
Ross is also fighting for Debbie's attention. Is it friendly competition between him and Pete?
"I wouldn't say it is friendly competition but there is definitely competition there. There is a bit of sibling rivalry. I think Pete thinks that Ross is doing it just to wind him up a bit, and he kind of plays on it a little bit."
Why does Pete react so violently towards Ross when he sees him playfully messing around possibly even flirting with Debbie?
"Pete doesn't realise that they are playfully messing. He is basically walking through the village with Moira and is discussing a deal, as he is off to meet one of the suppliers. Pete sees what he thinks is an altercation between Debbie and Ross and he is completely wrong. He goes a bit off the rails and steps in trying to be the hero, but he gets shot down quite soon by Ross and a few things are said. That's when the violence kicks in. A few things are said about the drugs and stuff like that, and Pete doesn't take too kindly to it…"
What happens to prompt Pete and Debbie to eventually fall into each other's arms?
"Obviously Pete tries to defend Debbie through what he thought was an altercation, but obviously he was misunderstood on that situation. Afterwards, the car breaks down while Pete is on his way to the meeting. Ross kind of sets the car up so that Pete can't make the meeting after the scuffle they have, trying to make sure that everything goes wrong for him.
So the car breaks down just outside of the village and Debbie turns up in the recovery truck. They have a nice little moment and Debbie then realises that she is attracted to Pete. The next thing they know, they are in each other's arms kissing."
is Pete aware of the nightmare Debbie has had with men before?
"Yeah, I think it is quite common knowledge for everyone who lives in the village - the traumatic experience she went through. You can't really comprehend what she has been through in terms of her character - it is really, really heavy."
Do you think Pete really likes Debbie?
"Yeah, he does. I think he is really into Debbie, but she blows hot and cold with him, so he never knows where he stands. I think Pete has just got to try and test the waters and see what happens."
