The best Dating App alternatives for Tinder!
What other dating apps are out there apart from Tinder?
Let’s be honest, we all get fed up with Tinder at one point and even more so with the current COVID lockdown going on. Maybe it’s because the person you matched with is ghosting you, or this really hot guy/girl deleted your match after a couple of minutes or you just got bored after swiping every day during lockdown. It’s frustrating - we get it!
So, for all you guys and gals out there looking for somewhere else to get your dating game on, we got you covered and have created a list of Tinder alternatives for you. To save you some time we tested and reviewed each app, we’ll save you the inconvenience of testing each app yourself because you can just pick your favourite one and start dating 😉
This app puts a fresh, emancipated spin on the ole’ swiping and matching game. The motto here is “ladies first”. After you’ve matched with a guy it’s the girl’s turn to start the convo (note: this only applies to heterosexual matches; for same-sex matches, either one can start messaging). But you gotta be quick ladies! You only have 24 hours to think of a witty chat up line. Naturally, your match will get the same amount of time to decide whether or not he/she wants to keep texting you. After the guy’s replied to your message, the two of you can knock yourselves out with bantering, flirting or even sending memes with the app’s search engine!
Our review: ❤❤❤❤ (4 out of 5 hearts) Okay, so we’re generally really excited about this app. The whole “ladies first” concept is very empowering and makes us feel kinda sexy tbh. But! The 24 hours thing seems a little too fast for us. We don’t know about you ladies - but we like to think about what we’re texting a guy for a bit longer than just 24 hours! Also, the time limit gave us a little anxiety, especially when waiting for our matches’ replies! We definitely don’t need that kind of stress, COVID is already stressful enough, thank you very much!
Unlike other dating apps, Hinge isn’t all about swiping. On Hinge, you create a profile with pictures (duh!) and at least three answered questions about yourself. The goal here is to create a more personal interaction between the users. When you like a person’s profile, you don’t just swipe right and hope for the best. In order to like someone’s profile, you have to comment on one of their pictures or questions. You can either just “like” it (although in our opinion - that’s kinda boring, and you might not get a response) or you can add a comment. Then you can start texting with the person and build a deeper connection.
Our review: ❤❤❤❤ (4 out of 5 hearts) This is definitely the perfect app for anyone sick of the shallow nature of the usual dating apps. What we like about Hinge is that the personal questions and photos give you the opportunity to start up a convo on a personal note (and let’ be honest that’s much better than the usual “Hey, how you doin’?”). It’s much easier to strike up an interesting convo because you are provided with a background, which makes it easier to start chatting. Despite how incredibly innovative Hinge is for us, it felt like it took way longer to get a match than on Tinder or Bumble. So we wouldn’t recommend it for the impatient amongst you!
Have you ever been in the situation where you’ve seen this totally cute person in the tube, you two lock eyes and start smiling at each other but then, before you can get up the courage to make a move they get off and you’re left thinking “will I ever see them again?” Well, Happn is coming to the rescue! With this app you can connect with people you have crossed paths with (this only works if they have the app as well, obviously). Once you’ve crossed paths the person will show up in you timeline and if you both like each other you can start texting away. You can also make sure they know you’re interested by sending them a “Hello”. Then they will get notified and can decide whether or not they want to accept it.
Our review: ❤❤❤ (3 out of 5 hearts) Even though it’s a nice concept, the execution has its flaws. First of all, the “Hello” function is all nice and fun until you get swamped with “Hellos” from random people. If you get lucky, a nice and cute person (that you also find attractive) could be one of those “hellos”. However (at least for us) that’s rarely happened. We also feel like the app hasn’t gained as much popularity as other apps so the selection of people can be very limited. Apart from that we are really into the idea of being able to connect with people you’ve crossed paths with once before.
Blendr is basically like Tinder, except you don’t necessarily have to match with a person to be messaged by them. Much like Tinder, the purpose of this app isn’t exactly creating a deep connection with another person, but rather casual dating (there are exceptions of course). The concept is pretty basic, you are provided a selection of people according to your location, personal interests and filters. You then have the option to swipe left (meaning you don’t want to match) or right (meaning you want to match) on the person.
Our review: ❤❤ (2 out of 5 hearts) On this list, Blendr is definitely an app most suitable for people looking for some casual fun. Very similar to Tinder, we feel like Blendr is based on a very superficial concept (if not even more so). Obviously there is nothing wrong with the Tinder like concept the only problem is that the message function induces a massive wave of messages coming your way. This can turn out to be overwhelming and can get very annoying. The slightly confusing layout is also not helping the overwhelmedness!
So, that’s our list of Tinder alternatives to switch up your dating game.
