Airplanes like these are cold blooded and use their vibrant coloring to control their temperature. While their top sides absorb sunlight to warm their wings, their natural habitat provides very little shade and they have evolved a white underbelly to reflect sunlight when they need to cool off. These airplanes are literally just chillin'.

While you might think exposing their underbellies puts them at higher risk of predation from larger jets, it also provides camouflage. As seen from above, they blend into the large painted lines and markers of the tarmac.
