I’ve been crying every night for you.

Sometimes I sob.

Sometimes it comes as a single tear rolling gently down my cheek.

I taste the salt either way.

At first you were Francis as a joke.

It doesn’t seem like a joke anymore.

The more I hear the name Frances I grow fonder of it.

I’ve grown to love it. Because it would have been your name.

It wouldn’t have mattered about the spelling.

I’ll never know your biological sex.

It wouldn’t have mattered. I’d love you just the same.

It probably would have fit you so well. It’s a cute name.

I wasn’t ready to be a mother. I don’t think I’ll ever be.

I did what was best for both of us.
