Today's bright, sunflower outgoing to my penpal Jamie from the UK! This sunflower themed mail was inspired by my penpal's sunflower august challenge on IG which i almost didn’t make but i managed in time!
The challenge entry had to include book or music paper, blue, an animal and bonus points for lace. I used the new collection of sunflower themed stickers by Marigona Suli, used some blue cardstock and memo pad i got from my penpals, doily and a little moth. As well as a bunch of glitter stars and little glitter dots for which i whipped out my brushes 😋 i also added some more little stickers from Marigona’s sticker sheet but also little flowers i got from a penpal and some gold foiled washi i had samples of. Now that i think about it i used a lot of items from my penpals to create this mail and i feel proud of myself.
And if you have a pile of stationery you are currently looking at and feeling guilty about using? Go and use it, i was in your shoes as well but it brings me so much joy to see them on my creations. If you don’t want to part with the items just use them in your journal or planner, that way you can always have and see them! 🥰
The little sunflower paint swatch on the flipbook is from my friend's etsy shop - BoutiqueLOV in which you can use my rep code - MIKO10

i know this is just a website and we’re all basically shouting into the void but when someone
uses my name
sends me a message
says something nice in the tags when reblogging something i made
tags me in something
includes me in a follow forever, mutual appreciation, etc
it literally makes me smile irl and makes me actually happy so i just wanna say thank you to the very sweet people all around me :)
I hope one day you wake up not bearing that heavy feeling anymore.
How do you fall back in love with life?
clean your room. clean space, uncluttered space, space that doesn’t have miasma clinging to it can work wonders. clean the dishes. sweep. take out the trash. peel the clothes off the floor and wash them, and then actually fold/hang them. take a long shower. scrub behind your knees. brush your teeth. (this can be utterly exhausting, but try to get it done in a day, if you can. the end result is worth it.)
pull out your notebook. it doesn’t need to be a new notebook, but preferably one that you don’t usually write in, or that you haven’t touched in a while. fuck moleskins. the yellow legal pad will work fine. sit in your room, or in the park, or in the library, and write a list. count clouds. describe all the colors that you see, and note patterns that arise. sketch the cracks in the walls. note the shape light makes when it enters a space. talk about what the air tastes like, smells like. what sounds are there? even the white nose, break that down: air planes, fans, cicadas, anything. remind yourself that you are sitting in the middle of a space brimming with detail. remind yourself that you are not in nothingness and emptiness. your world is fathomless. it has potential.
drink cold water and try to eat something that isn’t processed. it does not need to be fancy. buy yourself an apple with the change between your couch cushions. eat it outside. if you’re someone who walks, walk somewhere afterwards, just to stretch your legs. take your fucking meds. remember that its a good thing that you are inside your body. your body is a fantastic and endlessly intricate machine, and even though society has smacked a bunch of poisonous ideas on it, that doesn’t change its inherent worth and splendor. take care of it.
read a novel. underline your favorite lines, and write phrases that twist your heart inside your chest on the back of your hand with an ink pen. read a novel like it’s poetry. read poetry, something decadent but unpretentious. watch a movie you haven’t seen before. if there are free art galleries near you, walk through one. take your time. let yourself bask. if there are patterns in what makes your soul ache, write those patterns down – marbles arches or soot crumbling bricks or dandelions or descriptions of dresses or whatever it is, write them down.
your chosen family is important. remember, they picked you as much as you picked them. the love has no obligation. it is given freely and it is given from a place of compassion. you are not a burden. if you need to breathe, take a minute by yourself and just exist, but remember to go back to your people. when they need you, listen and be gracious. always be gracious. the universe sometimes remembers things like that.
listen to new music. link jump on youtube or related artist jump on spotify or ask the chap beside you in the cafe what their favorite band is, and listen to that. listen to something that you don’t usually listen to. we tend to tie up a lot of memory with music. we are falling in love again. the soundtrack needs to be specific to that.
allow yourself to indulge in romantics. press flowers in old books. play movies with subtitles and mouth the words. dance in your room. wear something that makes you feel good, even if you wouldn’t wear it in public. write your chosen family letters, even if you hand deliver them. write poetry, even awful poetry. revel in its awfulness. eat dark chocolate and when your chosen family want to go out, try to go out with them sometimes, even if its just to the market.
Writing some letters to friends
managing your time is something v v important! especially now that we're all at home, it's really easy for us (or for me, at least) to lose track of time. with this, here are some of the time management techniques i've tried including what worked and what didn't!
"asians are a marginalized minority" sure, but who's being killed by police? who's being poisoned by corporations and neglectful governments dumping trash near their water and their neighborhoods? who's being arrested and jailed en masse because of the war on drugs? who's systematically being mistreated by hospitals because of a lack of education? it's not asians.
who's working at the universities? who's earning more than white men? who are the police officers and doctors abusing black and brown bodies? it's asians. I'm sorry, but fuck you for even pretending that these experiences are at all comparable, you should go back to studying for your MCATs like the rest of your grifter friends.
anon pls. i’m not even trying to contest that comparatively black and brown people suffer more due to systemic racism. of course they do, this is a well established fact. my point in the post though was to point out that even though we are in a position of comparative wealth and social status, we are also abused and looked down upon. i wrote that post after the atlanta killings, in which 6 asian women were killed. i am not your enemy here. white supremacy is. we shouldn’t be fighting over the fact that white supremacy is the root of the model minority stereotype, which is what placed asians up relatively higher than other minorities in this shit society of ours in the first place. it is a tool used by white institutions to push minorities apart and keep them from organizing. this also ignores the fact that there are millions of poor asians in this country, many of whom don’t know english at all and immigrated here for a chance at a better life. these are the people who are hurting. when i say that asians are marginalized, i mean especially people like them, who do not have money, are older and have worse health, who cannot access employment because of language barriers and stereotypes, i’m not necessarily talking about me here. i know i’m fortunate. im talking about people who work in the nail salons and restaurants and other service industry jobs for tiny wages. these people face hardship in their home country, and then they come here to face more.
asian people are under attack in this country too, and have been since we got here. that’s how white supremacy works- anyone who isn’t white gets pushed down. if this turns into a battle of who is more oppressed, that way we fall right into the hands of white institutions that want to push us down, because they understand our collective power and by manipulating us into hating each other, they have all the power instead. all we ask for here is an acknowledgment that racism against asian people exists, because it does, and for people to actually care about it. i’m not going to argue about facts in my inbox. i could have deleted this. if you don’t like me that much, block me so you don’t have to see me on your dash. i know what i stand for and believe in.
Isn't it nice to have someone to be,
missed by and someone who misses me? ~
