“Elain is established in the NC.”
But she’s not. She had to declare herself as part of the NC so the IC would allow her to go to the Hewn City instead of the IC believing in her capabilities to do it.
Feyre and the IC could have just as easily allowed Elain to find the trove instead of involving Nesta, but they didn’t.
That doesn’t sound like a place where someone belongs. No one should have to fight to be included. They should just be included….. and Elain needs a place where she’s allowed to do So
You know what we never explored?
A forced marriage trope between two characters that are already mated but are not in love (yet). There's so much reluctance and tension there that could open the door to one of the most delicious slow burns in the history of SJM romances.
You know what we already got?
A forbidden romance across all 3 series. Feysand (not entirely but the stakes were there), Chaolena, and RuhnLidia.
Azriel's last thought about his relationship with Elain before they don't interact again in ACOSF:
Azriel's last thought of Gwyn before they start interacting more in the book:
And that is why we ship Gwynriel. Because we are not blind, or ignorant. We are following the breadcrumbs of the very first Gwynriel shipper... Sarah J Maas!
What SJM meant for us to imagine when Lucien caught two trout with his bare hands:
What E/riels imagine because they apparently can’t read to save their lives:
Genuinely cannot wait for Gwyn to draw Azriel out of his shell🥹
If Gwyn was “just Nesta’s friend” why was she tied to Az at all?
Why is it that he was the one to save her, only to meet her again two years later through Nesta?
Why is it that they keep glancing at each other?
Why is it that he suddenly joined training after Gwyn?
Why was Gwyn even in the bonus chapter? Why did it end with her? Why did it end with Azriel thinking of her? Tucking her image down deep? Feeling a spark for her?
Why is Gwyn now Carynthian and Azriel’s equal?
You’re telling me you read SJM slowly tie these two together, slowly connect Gwyn, Emerie, and Nesta to one of the biggest plot points in the story, and you still don’t get it? You still don’t understand?
Skill issue.
"az had a vicious competitive streak. it was quiet and cruel and utterly lethal." vs "she wanted to be the first. wanted nesta and emerie and her to be the ones who wiped the smirks from azriel's and cassian's faces. especially azriel's."
“Especially Azriel’s”
imagine wanting a ship where even in an ideal scenario and they end up together happy and in love, one of them will always feel a pull towards someone else—an inescapable tug towards a person that is not the one you are with. Imagine wanting a ship where there is a constant underlying insecurity that he cannot give her something that someone else can. And that person will always be in their orbit. Politically and emotionally they cannot avoid him and so he will always pose as a threat to their relationship and a symbol of what they will never be able to have together.
Sounds pretty un happily ever after to me
So do people just find a coincidence that Azriel and Gwyn are both competitive in nature, both are singers, both struggle with feelings of self worth. And Azriel is seen as someone who worships whoever his current love interest is (Gwyn is also said to have a beauty that revivals Mor’s someone who Azriel was interested in) and Gwyn is a literal priestess. Both are warriors. And his bonus chapter ends with Gwyn…..but people don’t think they can’t be endgame because Azriel doesn’t exhibit mate behavior (even though him falling in love with someone who is not his mate would be a better arc for him…) interesting
On the other side of this: a total coincidence that Lucien and Elain are the ones who aren't fond at all of combat and violence and see it as a last resort, both have lost the person they thought were the love of their lives for reasons outside their control, both are presented as never quite fitting their current place, no matter how hard they try. Lucien is the only heir to the Day Court, Elain thrives in sunlight and bright places. But people think that they can't be endgame because, at the current point in time, they aren't particularly close, Elain doesn't want a mate, and that can never change with time and interaction.
