I think people would make much better decisions when it comes to dating if they stopped focusing on things like weddings and babies and instead focused on things like funerals and disappointment. What I mean is when I think about who I want to marry, I can’t just stop at who I want to meet at the altar. Because when you’re thinking about the person you want to spend your natural life with, that means the person who will be by your side when life is hard. When your parents die. When you lose your job. When your child is hurt. When bill can’t get paid. And when all of those painful moments come, you have to think “is this the person i want by my side? Is this the person who will be generous and giving when I’m in need? Is this the person who will find the words to soothe my aching heart? Is this the person that when I look across the room through tearful eyes, I want to, need to see their face?”
What I’m saying is when you’re thinking till death do us part, you really have to listen to the whole vow. The commitment is more than just walking down the isle. Its who you want to walk through life with.
Confidence is quiet. Insecurities are loud.

Write just because you can, because you love to. Capture that feeling when they doubted you and turn it into their ultimate demise. Describe their ignorance and the way you took it, how disdain and contempt it felt. Make them feel what you felt. Create your poetry no matter how horrible, the message is yours. It might be worthless but you’re searching for the purpose. It doesn’t have to be great and it doesn’t even have to matter, it just has to matter to you. Cry your heart out through your words and tell your story. Don’t tell it to get admiration or pity… don’t do it because you want someone to like it or even love it. Write because it’s your escape not your time to be found. And even if no one regards your words, write because there’s no other way to be heard.

Maybe He’s not yet answering your prayer because He wants you to want Him more than the answer.
Maybe in this season He is calling you to draw nearer to Him, to align your heart and will with His, so that He can show you more of His love which is more than sufficient and satisfying.
He is not withholding from you. He is not teasing you. But He sees the big picture, and He makes everything beautiful–not in our time, but in His time.
I mostly wrote when I was heartbroken. You can say that was my fuel. It’s like the words floated around my head, jumbled, needing a home. Pen to paper, they say. In this case it was thumbs to keyboard. As I typed I was envisioning the story. As I typed, my thumbs were going faster and faster. As I typed the final period, it hit me. The heart may be broken, but only temporarily. After all darling, you are your own healer.

When you think the best of her lies at the small of her back, you’re reading the book with blind eyes. Ask her what age she pierced the soft skin of her earlobes or what her childhood tasted like. Ask her what shape she traced out of the freckles on her shoulders. Ask her what she thinks about when she spends time to herself, what her brain is trying to work out lately, what kind of candles she ignites when she doesn’t want to face the dark.

We live in an age where we feel guilt whenever we have to cut someone off but the reality is that some relationships do need to die, some people do need to be unfollowed and defriended. We aren’t meant to be this tethered to the people in our past. The Internet mandates that we don’t burn bridges and keep everyone around like relics but those expectations are unrealistic and unhealthy. Simply put, we don’t need to know what everyone else is up to. We’re allowed to be choosy about who we surround ourselves with online and in real life, even if it might hurt people’s feelings.
