I've been seeing Paralives all over my fyp and as a blind person, I feel so excluded from the life sim community at large. There's NOTHING for us. Everything is so visual, as is the whole fucking world we live in; why can't I have my dream of living in a castle, or swooning over my ideal boyfriend, in any tangible way? I can journal all I want, I can daydream all I want, but I will never be able to walk through a recreation of my dream home with my dream man beside me, smile as Miis or Sims or Paras CREATED BY ME go about their days. It's not fucking fair.

I wish I could make avatars for my beloved OCs but I can't (for hopefully obvious reasons). Sure, you can say that you can't draw, but then you can turn to sites like Picrew or other doll/avatar makers and just start having a ball with picking options. Or you could open up the Sims or Tomodachi Life and create something in there. I can't. And no way in hell am I using AI to make images of my OCs. So I'm left with what: trusting someone else and shelling out dollars? Sigh. I fucking hate being blind; I'm locked out of so much of the world and I never asked for this.

On Being a Rarepair Writer Who Is Also Their Own Ideal Reader

There is no established term, as far as I can tell, for the exhaustion of being a rarepair writer who is also the ideal audience for their own work.

The problem is this: you write the fic because it doesn't exist. You are, by definition, the person who wanted it most. And yet by the time it exists, you have processed every sentence so many times during construction that the emotional charge has been spent. A reader receives the work once, all at once. You received it in fragments, across weeks, in active labor. The surprise was never available to you; you used it up drafting.

The roles are mutually exclusive. Author and naive reader cannot coexist in the same person — not for the same text. One cancels the other.

What I find difficult is the moment of recognition. I can give a piece enough time that the memory of writing it recedes — open it months later, read a line, think: "Oh, that's actually good!" And then, in the same instant, remember that I wrote it, and watch the reaction dissolve. You cannot be surprised by your own solution to your own longing.

The authorship is always there, underneath the text, quietly disqualifying you. There is a loneliness to filling a gap that only you noticed, for an audience that can only ever be you.

It's Kris's birthday today so I wrote up a little something to celebrate!

I love writing undressing scenes.

Clothing is characterization. What someone chooses to wear tells you something, and what happens to that clothing in an intimate moment tells you something else entirely. A coat that took effort to put on, removed quickly. A shirt that someone hesitates over. Whether things are folded or dropped on the floor. Whether the person being undressed helps or stays still and lets it happen. All of that is intimacy before anything else has occurred, and I find it endlessly more interesting to write than what follows.

I hate that I have to do this but Idk what else I can do. I don't want to add any fandoms because I'm not in any popular fandoms with ships I ship that are nommed in the tagset, and I feel bad for everyone else who's gotten gifts and is just waiting, all because I just want some fic food not written by me for my rarepairs. The minimum wordcount is 500 words, and all rules are in the stickied Dreamwidth post. Idk if I even tagged this to reach as many people possible who may see it, but I'm disheartened that this isn't the first exchange where I'm left, and I'm certain it won't be the last. Anyway, if a fanfic writer could make a fellow fan happy, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

I wish i shipped more popular ships and was part of bigger fandoms, because seeing your name on a recurring basis on iph lists, then pdph lists, then post-pdph lists, and on and on, just SUCKS. And I don't wanna add fandoms because * I don't wanna add them for pity gifts just so others can write for me, and because I genuinely don't know or want most ships/fandoms. But it's my fault so I just have to sit in my discontent while people get treats (which I'm happy for, don't get me wrong, everyone deserves treats!) while I sit giftless and I've written my gift. God I sound like such a shitty person don't I? And it's like, AO3 exchanges are the only way I can get some fic food for my favorite ships that isn't written by me, because God forbid a girl is getting tired of her own cooking and is tired of keeping these lonely boats afloat all by herself, but if she doesn't, well.

I wish more ao3 users made their bookmarks public. Or maybe a lot of users don’t use bookmarks at all? Hard to tell. It used to be a great way to find new authors - go through the comments or even kudos of fics I liked, check out those users’ bookmarks. But I’m noticing a trend that a lot of people don’t have any public bookmarks anymore.

Ci ho messo due mesi, ma ho FINITO Aquarius di Marilena Barbagallo e… mamma mia, che viaggio. Quando Marilena aveva detto che sarebbe stato il libro più oscuro della serie, non avevo davvero idea di quanto lontano si sarebbe spinta la storia; mi sono fermata più volte, ho preso pause, ho dovuto proprio allontanarmi. È comunque un libro bellissimo, e rivedere i Leclercs mi ha fatto un bene assurdo (hanno preso residenza permanente nel mio cuore), ma è un libro PESANTE, che ti resta addosso. E finalmente abbiamo anche una risposta su dove fosse Stéphanie durante il libro di Michelle.
