Why Parents Think They Understand You, When They Actually Do.
Parents will think that they understand you, and they will think that they know every single detail of your life. Wrong. Unless you decide to be really close with your parents, they don't know anything about you at all. They think they know what happens at school, they think they know who your friends are.
Truth is, your parents know nothing about you. They will pretend to understand what you're going through, but they don't know anything. It's what makes you drift apart from them, making you feel like you're all alone in this world.
They just don't understand!
You could get bullied a lot in school and they might not even notice! No wonder no one decided to talk to their parents!
But they do know things. Sometimes, even if they don't understand quite clearly what you're going through, you can tell them your problems. To start creating a healthier bond with your parents, you need to be as open with them as you can. Tell them what's bothering you at school.
As soon as you tell your parents these things, they might understand more. When you tell your parents what's happening in your life, or at school, they will try to help you.
Some people think that they won't try to help you. Unless you have alcoholic, drug addicted, neglecting parents, they will try to help you. Don't think automatically that they might not know how to solve a problem. If you're being bullied in school, tell them!
If someone says a mean comment about you, and it rubs you the wrong way, tell your parents! They have probably dealt with this before, they might even be dealing with it right now! Do you ever stop and think what happens at where they work? Maybe other employees or whatever call them names, maybe even get them in trouble at work.
All I'm saying is, your parents know things. It's up to you whether you're willing to let them help you or not.
