I know, there are a zillion fic rec lists, but this is mine. Here are my absolute favorite, by category and also I’m including some WIP that you might want have to catch up on.
Some differentiation on labeling:
Canon divergence: All the canon elements upto a moment have happened, the characters are themselves and the story digress at a point.
Canon AU: Characters are still their selves but the story takes place in a different scenario/time. E.g, Enchanted Forest (Lt Duckling, for example)
AU: Characters retain traits from their selves but the entire story is a different universe. (aka, we are neighbours)
A/N: some of this fics might not be perfect grammar style. I’m not a grammar nazi. I like my things well written, but I am willing to overlook certain mistakes or take on simple narrative styles if the story compels me. To me, if the plot is good and the idea is original, I might read it even if the narrative is very simple. Or viceversa, the plot might be simple, but it’s beautifully well executed.
The Pirate Son: Canon divergence - Drama - I freaking love this fic. It’s a very simple narrative but the idea is so compelling. This is a Pirate!Daddy Killian story and there are so few out there. I love this one because it’s an absolute canon divergence that starts on S2 and takes it from there.
The Exiled Years: Canon AU - You’ve already seen me gifbomb and fangirl all over this one. You should be reading it already. This is an Enchanted AU of sorts, but it starts on Boston. In chapter one you have Hook wearing a leather jacket and smoking cigarettes in a dark alley. And it only gets better after that. Just go read it!
Icing on the Cake – AU – If you’ve been in my blog, you probably have already read this. If you, what the freaking name of Killian Jones have you been thinking? This fic is a delightful piece of sexy fluff.
The fluffy problem - Canon AU – I just love this one for personal reasons. When Cora turns Killian into a kitten and Emma takes him in. You just die. Killian Jones as a kitten, people. Killian Joness, with all his sass, as a kitten. It’s purrfect (pun intended).
Broken Soul Mend Hearts (In progress): This story is wonderful, one of the best Hooks I’ve ever read.
Until the Fog Lifts (In progress): Cursed!Killian AU: Emma Swan has more than enough to deal with. For one, her son believes the entire town of Storybrooke is cursed. She definitely doesn’t have time for the mysterious pawnbroker, Killian Jones, even if Henry insists that he’s the prince she’s meant to be with. This was is jusst great… I am at the edge of my seat…
Across Time and Space: this story is great. It really has it all. You like Lt Duckling? Cursed Killian? Captain Hook in vengeful mode? This one has it all. One of my all-time favorites.
Wednesday: M rated. A curse forces everyone to live the same day over and over. Interesting take on what Emma Swan does with some free time.
Smooth Sailing: M rated - This story is just plain great. Takes up after 3x22 and explores Killian & Emma’s blooming relationship.
New York Duet: Hook & Neal get left behind after Pan’s curse and they have to work together to get Emma her memories back. One of the very few stories that portrays a friendship between Killian and Neal and I liked that a lot.
The path that the moonbeams make: Season 2 divergence. Hook shows wounded at Emma’s window. Just read it, you won’t regret it.
Hollow Beginnings: Season 3 divergence. Hook gets terribly wounded in Dark Hollow and it’s up to Emma to save him, bounding his life with hers. This is a great piece, beautifully written.
I almost do: Season 3 divergence. When Pan’s curse hits, instead of finding herself alone with Henry, Emma wakes up on a bed in Storybrooke, next to a very naked Killian Jones. Great idea for a divergence.
Sparkling: Based on the movie Penelope, this is a grey line between complete AU and canon AU. Read it, it’s beautifully written.
Just like me, she was a victim of the night: I love this one. The night before her marriage, Princess Emma runs into a pirate in her room. She decides to have one more night of fun before her life changes.
Written in the stars: Blacksmith Killian and Princess Emma. This is such a pretty story
Raven Hair and Tattered Blankets: (in progress) rated M Pirate!Daddy Killian people. Enough said. This as actually my CSSV present and the author decided to continue it!
Walking in a Straight Line: (In progress) Roomates AU. This story is just fantastic. Go read it.
Inbox: I pimped this one a few times. Based on “You’ve got mail” but with a police twist. Detective Killian Jones, people. Enough said.
Unfinished Business: Florist Killian and Baker Emma have had a rivalry for years. Yeah, right.
With Affection: CS AU meets Cyrano de Bergerac meets awesome writing meets fantastic nicknames. I don’t want to give up much of the plot, but I can tell you, it’s a beautiful story with great narrative, good plot and strong characterization.
These Nights Aren’t Made for Thinking: Emma Swan came to Portland, ME to start over. She’s got a job she loves, but when a particular case gets under her skin, she finds herself visiting the Jolly Roger and its curious bartender, Mr. Killian Jones, more often than she thinks is wise. But some nights aren’t made for thinking. (Everything this author writes is perfect!)
Never tear us apart: (In progress) Killian Jones is the front man for a band who have not yet made the big time. He is also in love with his good friend (and the girlfriend of their manager) the unattainable Emma Swan. When their manager turns out not to be the man they thought, his friendship with Emma is threatened. Tjere are INXS lyrics in this one. Go read it!
How Many Chances (Before I get it right): Heartbreakingly perfect. mma Swan is broken by love- or the lack of it. Failed relationship after failed relationship has left her jaded, with no one to blame but herself. A new move into a new place with her teenage son brings her face to face with Killian Jones. He aims to prove that her only problem is that she hadn’t met him yet.
JAIL AND BAIL: After getting arrested, Killian Jones needed someone to bail him out of jail. He just didn’t expect his bail bondsman to be an attractive woman. Now he has to deal with the humiliation of being an accidental criminal and the rejection from a woman who has stolen his heart. This is just a great fic. Bonus points: Liam Jones
Two Lost Souls: (rated M) After an undercover assignment ends badly Detective Killian Jones is transferred to the Homicide Division of the 15th Precinct. It is supposed to be a fresh start, but when he meets his new boss Captain Emma Swan, he discovers that he has already met her before. Yep. You have Det Killian Jones (I think we can all assume I’d read anything that has detective Killian Jones), and it’s dark, sexy, edgy… Just go read it.
The Trouble with Faking It: Killian Jones is one drunken mistake from never setting foot on a movie set again. Enter Emma Swan, the woman his manager has paid to pretend to date him and clean up his image. It seems straightforward enough…but there’s always trouble with faking it.
M – E rates (just for the fun of it):
Ten hours: Hook gets back the 10 hours he spent on top of that beanstalk.
Leaving Neverland: Emma’s recurring nightmare is stealing her sleep and she asks a certain pirate for a favor: to chase it away. Hook has some terms of his own and they discover neither one of them can handle it.
Missing Pieces (In Progress): Sequel to Leaving Neverland. Slow burn? You got it.
