missing kitties || akira & akari
âFuku?â Akira repeated the toddlerâs inquiry, and slid his hand underneath the catâs belly, up to rest between its two forelegs, so that he could push the catâs torso up closer to his own face. The cat twisted its head around to face him, brushing a curiously sniffing nose against the skin of his cheek. Then, as the girl voiced her denial, Akira sighed and loosened his grip until the cat was able to slip out of his arms to land gracefully on the ground below. Paws firmly grounded once more, the cat quickly shook itself off, the bell on its collar releasing a soft, ringing chime, before taking off to flee out of sight.
âHmmm⊠black spots and no collarâŠâ Lifting a hand to his chin as he fell into a contemplative silence, Akira drew upon his knowledge of the neighborhood cats, searching his memories for the distinct features the girl had relayed to him. Over his time here in Shizume, he had already accumulated a fair amount of knowledge regarding the feline population of this neighborhood, both the vagrant ferals and the curious wandering pets. There were, of course, many cats, and while he had no doubts that heâd seen the cat she was searching for - Fukurou - before, it was hard to determine with any certainty the last spot heâd seen the cat. All he could really say right now was that the cat did not seem to be here right now.
However, using his general knowledge, he might be able to glean an idea. Ultimately, it definitely depended on the cat, butâ
âThere are a few alleys Iâve seen cats frequenting. Oneâs not that far from here if you wanna try looking.â Actually, the alley right by his apartment had been just one such alleyway, and was how he had come to befriend the neighborhoodâs cats so easily in the first place.
Then, as the girl voiced her concern over the scratch heâd sustained, Akiraâs gaze drifted to the red, weeping lines running jagged over his arm. Truth be told, the stinging had already subsided, and though blood still oozed from the cuts to trickle down his arm, the flow was already slowing. âYeah, this is fine. I guess a band-aid wouldnât be a bad idea, though, since you have some.â
âHeâs definitely a strange looking cat,â Akari murmured, smiling apologetically. âIâm sorry for the trouble.â Honestly, that was why she didnât let her rambunctious trio run around outside, and even then, the yard was fenced in to give them privacy from their neighbors. The houses in her block were built entirely too close together in her opinion, though perhaps at least in part, most of the fault lay with all the expansions some families had to do over the years, the Kawamoto family included.Â
Honestly, where had that poor cat gotten off to? She certainly hoped it was alright, and she knew her poor neighbor was worried sick. She couldnât blame them since Fukurou had been gone so long, but also the guilt (even though it wasnât their fault) of the family member bringing the dog over unannounced. Still, the male seemed to have a vague idea of where they could try searching, so at the very least this encounter was more of a plus than the other people sheâd tried asking.Â
âIt definitely couldnât hurt,â the brunette smiled easily, slowly setting Momo down so she could dig the band-aids out. For her part, the toddler simply clung to her older sisterâs leg, though her eyes sparkled as she watched the cats around them. She didnât dare reach out to pet them though, since sheâd been warned about that before. Even if they seemed nice, there was no telling how they might react to a stranger.Â
Akari rummaged around for a few moments before she found a package of tissues as well, drawing out a few so she could at least dab at the blood before applying the band-aids for him. âThere, good as new,â she smiled brightly, before laughing sheepishly. âAha, sorry if thatâs a bit odd. Iâm too used to being a big sister and looking out for the younger ones.â
