PUNCTURED BC OF REASONS -burntchild

“CAREFUL.”
That had been all Fu-Jin elected to say in terms of what they were about to face. The instructors had warned them to enter that certain area of the training hall, full well knowing that the monsters in here were of a different, stronger kind. Seifer, naturally being tempted by any kind of challenge, had taken it upon himself to prove that he was more than ready to face the T-Rexaur on his own, at the age of thirteen.
Despite knowing that the tall blond boy probably had bitten off more than he could chew, let alone swallow, Fu had not hesitated to follow him along, under the pretense of wanting a “better, more effective training session also”, of course.
But as it usually tends to go with best laid plans, this one as well was doomed to fail. Not only were the both of them not trained well enough to actually place a proper sleeping spell on the beast in time, they also lacked the strength and agility to combat it in any other way. There was, after all, a reason the SeeD cadets were to face these creatures only close to the final exams and not earlier - and if they did, it was always under supervision and in groups.
Be that as it may, Fu-Jin had taken on the role as supporter of this fight, knowing that Seifer’s forte was to strike with all his strength and occasionally even pepper in some fire magic.
She didn’t really question the latter skill with her friend, knowing full well that it was more than unusual for him to have mastered the magic without actually having a Guardian Force to command and junction said magic to. But that was neither her business nor was it of any concern so long as it didn’t harm the other.
“Fuck’s sake, move Fu!”
The order came unexpected and harsh, hissed through gritted teeth and born from frustration as much as fright, although Seifer would never admit to feel the latter.
Fu-Jin found herself thrown off her rhythm, she had just cast an aero spell and planned to follow it up with a physical strike, but Seifer had thrown her off, making her pause as she expected him to strike next.
Something was wrong.
She knew the moment she lowered her weapon and saw the enormous jaw of the T-Rexaur close in on the other cadet. His strike came to slow, albeit powerful as ever. Not daring to take any chances, Fu-Jin’s nimble form darted forward and brought itself between the creature and her friend, facing him as she blindly threw her weapon at the T-Rexaur’s eye.
Later, she and the others would call it “poetic justice” or “destiny” or some such.
At any rate, just when her weapon slashed the monster’s eye, Hyperion pierced her own, Seifer’s weapon arm having stricken true after all. Thankfully he was able to stop the momentum in time before he actually punctured more than just her eye, claiming her life on top of it all. Still, pain exploded in her head, causing her throat to contract in a violent scream as she sank to her knees.
Somehow the guards noticed the commotion, maybe they saw the two of them unauthorisedly fighting in the high risk area… whatever it was, they were able to pull both Seifer and Fu-Jin from the training area soon after, yet it was too late to apply a healing potion or any sort of restorating magic to Fu’s eye. Too much time had passed since the gunblade’s tip had blinded one of her eyes.
And yet, if anyone had asked her why she did it, or if she’d do it again… she would have solemnly nodded.
Send “punctured” for a starter where my muse has been stabbed.
Send “shivved” for your muse to be stabbed.
"I guess being angry is easier than being sad."
If it were anyone other than Fuu, he'd die rather than admit that out loud, but Seifer has always suffered from an overabundance of passion, emotions, all that bullshit, and he needs to vent it off occasionally or he'll explode.
Right now, though, he finishes off the last of some incredibly shitty beer, crushes the can in his fist, and skips it across the surface of the placid sea like a stone.
It makes five bounces before it disappears, swallowed up in the beginning swell of a tiny wave.
"Not that I'm sad-- I'm mostly just pissed," he clarifies. Before she thinks he's developed a soul or something. "It probably would have been easier if she'd killed me instead of ditched me."
A knight abandoned, feral and unhinged and scared shitless-- call me a young revolutionary, spat out through dry lips, heart in his throat and magic wild in his bones, no longer suppressed beneath Ultimecia's power and possession.
He feels like a marionette with its strings unceremoniously cut.
"The hell are we supposed to do now, Fuu?" -burntchild

In many ways, she could be considered the opposite of the tall, burly blond. Fu used less words, took up less space, commanded less attention. Maybe she even served as some sort of replacement for what the commander used to be to Seifer? But whatever it was, she never questioned their relationship, their friendship and camaraderie, nor his loyalty.
There had been moments when Fujin had questioned if the path her friend was set on was the right one for him, of course. Which was why she had confronted him at last, back then, in the belly of the Lunatic Pandora. Being able to sit beside him right this moment was something she did not take for granted - she knew how very close her friend had come to perishing that day. So when he crushed the beer can to make it skip over the watery surface, her uncovered ruby eye closed as she drew a slow, measured breath.
After a long, silent pause - a silence only she seemed to be able to share with the otherwise so very impatient man - Fu nodded. She knew what it felt like. To have anger reign over any other emotion. It had always been her go-to way to deal with things, because allowing herself to feel sad or to cry meant to be weak, and life did not forgive a man who showed weakness, much less a woman.
“POSITIVE.”
She swallowed, clearly fighting against the habitual muteness that usually forced her to resort to curt gestures and even shorter expressions of words.
Her gaze darted to the corner of her eye, taking in the form of her friend staring into what seemed a different time than the present as he asked her what they were to do now. She didn’t know. Never had. For Hyne’s sake, they were merely children when all of this had started to spin out of control.
Finally, her head turned so she could face him properly, and gift him one of those very, very rare moments when the hardness of her ruby eye faded, when her expression softened ever so slightly. Her hand reached for his, and she gave it a gentle, yet reaffirming squeeze.
All of this conveyed what she wasn’t able to form into words.
And now, we move on. Forward. We take control of our lives and forge our own destiny. And most importantly we’re not alone in doing so. You are not alone. Rai and I will be here with you. As we always have. No matter which path you choose to walk next, we will be ever at your side. We’ll have your back.
“… hope.”
The single word left her quietly, almost softly, as she let go of his hand to look back out onto the water. The past hadn’t been kind to either of them, but she was determined to keep protecting Seifer, to be at his side as the friend she had always been, sure of the same determination living in Rai. They were family, after all.
THEY’LL - REMEMBER - YOUR NAME !!
"I'm allowed to be angry."
There was a pause at his words, spoken with that usual hint of reproach in situations like these. Fujin took a deliberate moment to process the sentiment, then she directed the gaze of her ruby eye across the table and towards Seifer - who had elected to pull the face. The one where his mouth would quirk downward, obvious displeasure of the entire situation painted all over his expression, combined with drawn together brows and a hard glance. She reciprocated the look evenly for a whole minute, then a soft, amused huff left her as the corners of her mouth twitched just so. “POSITIVE.” Nothing wrong with being angry in such a situation, she would most likely have kicked out by now if she were in his shoes. She wasn’t, however. The slightest spark of mirth danced through the red of her eye as she neatly lay down her hand of triple triad cards, lacing her fingers together on top of them while she tipped her head to the side. Ignoring how uncomfortable Raijin had started to shift in his seat, nervously scratching at the back of his head during their staredown, Fu finally reached out and tipped at the card she had just won from the tall blond. “WINNER’S SPOIL.” Clearly still amused, she pressed down on her friend’s precious Eden card and slid it over to her side then. Sure, Seifer was allowed to be angry. She’d deal with his bad temper like she always did - by finding the chicken-wuss or the pretty boy, so he could direct his wrath their way.

Thoughts during my recent playthrough as I pay a lot more attention to Fujin and Raijin.
The both of them went looking for Seifer as soon as he deserted B-Garden, running into Squall and his group every so often. They even helped evacuate Garden when Seifer ordered the missiles to be fired.
Only when Garden crashed into Fisherman’s Horizon did they disappear (I suppose they got wind of Seifer being with the Galbadian Army and thus approached the troups searching for Ellone there, ultimately reuniting with Seifer).
We only meet them again when Balamb is occupied and they have taken on the role of Captain and Commander. After being defeated, they declare they are not following the Sorceresses orders - and are very strictly denying that. However, they also stress they are with Seifer, and that they can’t back out anymore.
“Seifer has a lot of followers, but we’re his only friends... We’re a posse.” Raijin says. “The Galbadian soldiers are only listening to Seifer ‘cause they fear the sorceress. Without us, Seifer wouldn’t have a posse.” - There is their loyalty again, their deep-rooted friendship to him. They simply can’t let him go into this alone because, ultimately, he is. Zell responds to Raijin: “If you guys stand behind him that much, tell frickin’ Seifer to stop this nonsense!” And both immediately agree. They want Seifer to stop. That is why they stick around. They sensed from the beginning that something is wrong and off about the way he acts. But simultaneously Raijin stresses they stand behind Seifer all the way. If they can’t make him see reason, they will stick with him to the very end.
All of them agree that Fujin and Raijin from thereon out cut all ties with Garden. And Squall understands. He sees that “this is what comrades are all about.” He is willing to let them go because he himself starts to understand what friendship is.
Raijin, as per usual, is the more emotional one of the duo as he departs with the words: “Don’t wanna talk anymore. Kinda painful.”
When Rinoa states it makes her sad to see them go, Squall tries to be practical about it as always, but even he admits to himself he feels something. Sad, I presume. Because even if they have been going at each other all the time, they were on the same side - up until now.
This whole interaction leaves a lot of room to analyze all the character’s relationships and I might dive into that at some point, but what caught my eye mostly was the fact of how deep rooted both loyalty and friendship run for Fu and Rai.
Cue Seifer organizing all hot dogs in the cafeteria being set aside for the disciplinary committee because Raijin loved eating them.
Cue him never telling Zell a word because it was funnier seeing him run to the counter every.damn.day.
...cue Fujin just laying in wait for Zell to come running through the halls so she can punish him for RUNNING IN THE HALLS.

I never thought to elaborate on this but since wire came up now:
As mentioned, Fujin suffers from Selective Mutism which is directly linked to a Social Anxiety Disorder. She is, however, very much capable of expressing herself in written form. I headcanon that she is even exceptionally eloquent in whatever they are assigned with at Garden. Or if she needs to file field reports.
With things like wire / social media / messaging, it’s kind of a middle ground. The social anxiety part is toned down a lot since she is not standing before the person she talks to. It gives her some peace of mind. Still, since she has a no-nonsense approach, she will usually be curt and to the point (unless you’re Raijin or Seifer, likely). Also: Excessive use of emojis to get her point across instead of words.
When offended, criticized, I break away. But that is not all. I have to break when offended because I fear my anger. The real problem is what to do with the anger. I have stifled it so long that I have packed it like dynamite, I have stored it and now it threatens to come out in explosions I fear.
