The week had been short providing Emily Prentiss the time needed to complete the most important task of her life. Perhaps calling it a task was a bit out of place considering Olivia Benson was anything but. Over a decade had been spent trying to find the proper footing for a stable foundation. Over a decade of near misses. Over a decade of other lovers trying to fill the void they left for one another. While most would look back on the time as missed the acting chief of the BAU saw it as necessary. Why? No one could question whether they were meant to be or not. People, death, distance, time couldnât pull their hearts from one another. Soulmates fated to be with one another⊠or thatâs exactly how Emily Prentiss saw it. Olivia Benson as quite literally her other half. With the brunette by her side things just made sense.
Wheels touched down just before two oâclock with the anxious woman aboard. Today was the day. Nerves buzzed through veins and heart pounded. The go bag was grabbed from the seat beside her as the woman rushed off the private jet and into a car service taking her home. Fingers itched to call Penelope; the woman would know just what to saw to calm the electric air around. However, the fizzling atmosphere was something to be cherished. A smile remained on lips as the brownstone came into view. Home. No matter how many places they lived or visited this is where they made a life with one another. This is where they became one unit. Feet rushed inside to change as she was meant to meet Olivia in a few short minutes. Hair was thrown into rollers as a white capped sleeved sheath that ended just above the knee with a slit up the back was shimmied into. Make up was touched up before rollers pulled from her hair and a Burberry trench pulled on over the dress before the woman was out the door.
It felt like tires came to a screeching halt outside of the courthouse, which they did not, before the woman all but threw herself out with a very large bill thrown the mans direction. Red soled shoes carried the woman inside and towards her lover, a bright smile on her face. âHey.â Her voice was breathy as she reached the other. âIâve been ready for years.â Grabbing the lieutenants hand, she pulled her into a sensual but public appropriate kiss before taking a step back. âI have the license.â Thanks to the work of federal judges who Emily grew up calling âauntâ and âuncleâ one had been expedited for the day. âWe only have a few minutes before my mother and Garcia start blowing up our phones.â Chuckling, she offered it to the other in case she wanted to look everything over. âAll we have to do is say âI doâ and sign on the line along with a witness.â Almost on cue, Donald Cragen made his presence known. A surprise for her bride! The man had been a father like figure to the hard headed detective for years so it only seemed right he was the one there to witness the union.
Everything had been leading up to this moment. Heartache, tragedy, mourning, shock, resurfacing of feelings that had never truly disappeared, violence and healing together. There had been so much stacked against the two women that threatened to rip them apart, and here they were. The kiss was one that caused her to all but melt in her spot. It was different, and most certainly not in a bad way. Today was the day they were officially going to vow forever. Butterflies had released within hours ago, but seeing Emily before her, hair all curled up, legs very much exposed -- she could absolutely explode! Olivia took hold of the marriage license, but ignored it in favor of practically staring at her fiancĂ©e as if it were a surreal moment. She trusted that everything was in order with the paperwork, so there was no need to waste any time going over any of it. A light chuckle fell from lips. âI can only imagine what theyâd say...â Because truth be told, Elizabeth and Penelope should have been there, but this wasnât about others. It was about them. A witness! That was the one thing Olivia had completely forgotten about... In her defense, itâs not like she had been married before! Fin could have came along. He may have been a work colleague, but after all of this time, he was certainly considered a friend! And just as she was going to open her mouth, the witness stepped into view all but gobsmacking her in that moment. âCap...â Brown eyes bounced between her former boss and the woman that she loved for a moment. â...how?â It was directed towards Emily. Honestly, it didnât matter how, though. The baffled lieutenant quickly moved to wrap Cragen into a somewhat bear hug as a sob rolled out with laughter. He had been the only type of father figure the woman ever had. More butterflies took off as she looked in the other womanâs direction with the widest smile. God, she loved that woman. It was even more of a reason to explode! âThank you so much for being here. It really means the world to me.â She pointed it in the manâs direction with a simple nod.
Hands quickly moved from her previous mentor to take hold of the straps that kept her jacket closed and undid it with a simple motion, removing it completely to show the dress below. Said jacked was thrown over her arm as she beamed an even bigger smile in Emilyâs direction - if it were even possible. Holding a hand out to take hold of the other womanâs hand, her fingers wiggled as if it would make them join all the more fast. âShall we?â A court official had called their names just moments before. âIâm going to need them to fast track the whole speech things because really, I just want to be able to call you my wife.â She chuckled; brown eyes twinkling with unshed tears of happiness as she looked in Emilyâs direction. It would all be official in just a few moments. Three years! They had waited three years to be able to say âI doâ, and here they were! Her legs wiggled with giddiness as she ushered the two into the room and the door closed behind them. âI love you so incredibly much.â It was all but whispered so only Emily could hear. It may have been a public room, but it wasnât said for everyone to hear. Theyâd all obviously know, but well, it made sense at the time!Â
